#blurays #bootlegbluray #physicalmedia - Розваги
If a physical release doesn’t exist buy all the damned bootlegs you want. If a physical does exist support that. It’s really that simple. Can’t believe some people want to get into other peoples wallets and concern themselves with what is one someone else’s shelf.
Also must be noted piracy has been around a long damn time. This isn’t a new thing and the fact that some are getting their panties in a twist now is kinda a joke.
Agreed Tim!
I have True Lies from Spain so many get into knots about the fact it's a bootleg well it's not available in any other form so I really don't care
If I buy a bootleg, I would buy the real thing when it’s available
Absolutely hit the nail on the head - if the studios won't release the movie on physical media then what other choice do you have?
Feels like I just sat through a sermon......PREACH!! (FYI...bootleg law enforcement is actually falls under the jurisdiction of the ATF...don't answer any knock on the door for the next few days, Ken)
That's true for forgotten films or series, owning the bootleg is the only way to preserve it.
I love that of a 24 minute video your negative points lasted less than 1 minute 😂. In my eyes you're a passionate collector who will do whatever necessary to have it physically. Good lad.
Appreciate the mention 👍.
As long as they are replaced when the legit version is released Who cares??? Most collectors want the best version anyway.
I've said this before-I have a few boots that don't have releases atm. I have no problem with that. Once the real release comes out I will buy them. Not only that, but I will gladly pay full price and not even wait for a sale! 😂
The only people upset about others buying bootlegs are collectors with debilitating ocd and care more about slips and how neat their shelves look.
💯💯
Agree.Ive never understood this Slipcase obsessive thing with some people.
Sounds like your rediculing a real condition, but ok. I also don't know why people have an issue with bootlegs, but I love slipcases and care about how my collection looks... Also, why would somebody unhealthily obsessed with THEIR collection, care if somebody ELSE gets bootlegs? this is the dumbest comment I read today.
Good point
Also Ken, thanks to you showing off that Sleepaway Camp shirt back when you got it, I have been buying so many horror themed T shirts across various websites lol. Now I have two hobbies. Movie collection and T shirt collecting.
Awesome video Ken I 100 percent agree with you on this you made some really great points, there's so many great movies that have yet to get a blu ray release.
I agree with pretty much everything you said Ken! If these studios would just release everything, then we would buy it!! I don't judge anyone who buys bootlegs.
I totally agree with you. I have boots in my collection. People say buy physical because on streaming films disappear or get edited because someone.gets woke or some snowflake doesn't like something in a movie Like splash that you showed . But when it comes to boots they change there opinion. It's to hypocritical . When physical releases are made I always bought and got rid of my boot. We stream and don't buy boots . It shows that we are ok with streaming and don't want a physical. F that. I want the disc. Boot or m.o.d. or regular release.
Whenever we tried to record a VHS rental, the copy protection would kick in and ruin the picture. I’m sure someone knew of a workaround, but we didn’t know how. I did record my favorite tv shows off the air, but back then it didn’t seem like most TV shows had a VHS release. The tricky part was pressing stop for the commercials then record again at just the right time 😂
My grandmother had a cable box with HBO and Cinemax and stuff and she would record stuff for us with no commercials and of course it was an edited on those channels. Good times
It became a real art form to work around those commercials. Lol
Most tapes had macrovision protection. Infact most DVDs and Blu-ray’s still have it. Most old VCRs didn’t support macro vision and neither did Betamax, so taping VHS rentals to beta was great back then.
Ppl now days thing they invented downloading 😂 we in the 80s we started over the air download.. from recording VHS to recording a song from the radio ..and yelling at the disc jockey who always talked over the song 😂😂
Just FYI, as someone who has been "ripping" VHS lately the Digital Screen Recorders that are out now get around the copyright protection.
I have the True Lies. It was from Spain and honestly, it is way better than that garbage DVD we have had for years. Looks decent on the 4K player and TV.
When James Cameron gives us The Abyss, Aliens, and True Lies on a proper 4K release, we have to find alternatives for the moment, Ken. Spot on video.
Splash had a 2004 Special Edition DVD with a redone cover and it's not that bad, but yes, we need an HD version.
That is a very good release and I think it’s relatively legal in a loophole way involving Spanish law. I got mine on Amizon (with Prme shipping) so can’t imagine it would be actually illegal.
Thank you for watching!
The worst part with Cameron is that while he has three different excuses he gives for why True Lies and The Abyss are not on blu-ray, it actually comes down to laziness. Years ago, a technician from the studio stated that whenever time came for them to make a new print, Jim Cameron would bring his own TV into the studio for a day, and he would spend the whole day going over what he 'thought' looked best on the TV...and therefore, what the best version of the film was. (Leaving aside that not everyone has the same TV; some had better than him, and some had worse.) As he got further into other projects like underwater exploration and Avatar, he just did not want to do that. He said it himself; something along the likes of, "I'm so busy the whole week, and that takes a whole day to go over the transfer; I just have to find 24 hours to do so." So all the stories about modern stereotypes in True Lies, and dangerous situations on the set of The Abyss, and legal rights between Fox and Disney, etc....that's all bullshit. The real reason is Cameron considers those films his 'lesser' films, and so he doesn't want to sit his ass down for a day and approve the transfers.
At one point, even Rian Johnson and Ryan Reynolds complained to him on Twitter that they couldn't watch his movies on home media! And he quickly scrambled to reassure them that he was "working on it". That's the problem with Cameron: he's always "working on it"; it's never going to happen. When other directors and actors are calling you out publicly, I think you've crossed the line. Bill Paxton died while fans were waiting for a release of True Lies, and he never got to see the film restored. I find that rather sad.
Me too, a good transfer nevertheless. Also bought On Deadly Ground from Spain. A very good looking transfer.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. For me it’s a lot of the Disney plus shows or Netflix shows. I want those on the shelf, and I’m still paying for those streaming services
That's my same rule.... if there's an official version, I'll buy it. It needs to be official and available. That's the issue especially when you're talking Disney, Netflix, etc... who refuse to put physical media out.... then it forces this issue.
Even if I have to import it and pay the crazy shipping, I will do it as long as it's an official bluray
I refuse to support either Netflix or Disney so I'd go out of my way to purchase a bootleg just to spite them, but seeing as they haven't released anything worth money in a few years then there is no issue for me.
Same , I haven't bought any blu ray bootlegs yet I'm looking at a Steven King adaptation right now.
@@WhirlingMusic being in the UK since stupid Brexit importing stuff now is a massive pain in the ass postage is ridiculous and Australia no longer ship to us at all it's shite
Very true. Streaming has changed the game.
Agreed, Ken. In my opinion, the kind of collectors who go out of their way to buy bootleg copies are the kind of collectors who go out of their way to double-dip on official copies.
Nope I only buy bootlegs if there isn't an official physical release or if there is never going to be aphysical release like with Disneys shows
Simple for me as I'm a movie fan first and foremost and if a movie or tv show doesn't have a legit physical release I'll buy the bootleg if I want to own and watch it.
Agree Dan 👍
I refuse to buy "air" that I don't own even when I pay for it. I have digital copies that came with movies that I've purchased that have disappeared from my streaming service. So NO to digital, I'll gladly watch a bootleg and buy when it comes out legitimately. Digital sucks.
As someone who only started collecting Blu Rays 3 years ago, I love the idea of bootleg Blu Rays because there is a number of Stephen King adaptions not available on Blu Ray otherwise, I think I have 1 or 2 bootlegs including Apt Pupil on Blu Ray I know there is an official Blu Ray release which would cost me over $100 for some reason, but there are also 32 Stephen King adaptions I own on DVD that I would prefer on Blu Ray, Even if they would have to be bought in bootleg format.
Glad to hear you're all for bootlegs. I myself have been downloading your UA-cam videos and uploading them to Vimeo under my own name. Thanks for the free revenue.
😂 good old VHS era. The beginning of home theater with stereo hi fi VCR. 🎉. A great times.
I 100% agree with you Ken! If they don't support physical media or make it available, I have to find alternative ways to get my favorite show or movies.
I agree with everything you said Ken! I have bootlegs myself if the damn studios won’t give us a physical copies and someone is selling a bootleg I’m going to pick it up. If the films do get an actual physical release I’ll 100% buy it! No judgement on anyone who does or does not buy bootlegs here
Great vid, Ken! The only bootleg I own is Star Wars Original Trilogy Despecialized editions, and even worse, I burned them myself like ten years ago, haha! But great job on this one!
Aren’t those on DVD?
Not that hard to find
Thank you for this video.
I want 4k bootlegs for Ernest Goes to Jail (ideally a legit release with special features.) And star wars despecialized editions.
Ken, I applaud YOU for not being a judgmental unrealistic asshat about this issue and for owning Bev. Hillbillies bc I love Jim Varney and since this is effectively the only non-Ernest title we MAY ever get, and now you got me wanting that one.
I remember those VHS days! Recording movies of tv...HBO, Cinemax, The Movie Channel. I also rented a 2nds VCR so I could copy my favorite movies. After a few years of that, I started buying a few movies (even paying $60 ea) at that time.
Agree with you Ken! Seems silly that I'm supposed to wait a decade for James Cameron to finally approve a True Lies or The Abyss transfer. Those blurays have been "coming soon" for 6-7 years now. Cameron's color timing guy posted info about The Abyss transfer in 2018.
I did that back in the day made my own movies on vhs did all the time did with vinyl record's, cds etc...
I used to tape stuff off HBO and Cinemax all the time, and thank God I did. Many of these shows never made it to VHS or DVD and in fact some of these shows are listed as Lost Media. I would happily pick up legitimate copies of National Lampoon's Hot Flashes, Hull High, Cavemen, Misfits of Science, or The American Chronicles. Since no one is rushing to release them, I have my old VHS copies and/or burned DVDs. I have replaced my burned DVDs anytime I find a real copy of them. Gargoyles (the movie not the Disney cartoon), couldn't find it forever when I did, I bought it and ditched the burned copy. Same for Silent Partner and The Gong Show Movie. Now I do have several bootleg DVDs that I picked up at pawn shops, Goodwill, and the like. Some of them I bought because they cracked me up. For example I have a bootleg of Lilo and Stitch with an R rating. I also have multiple DVD releases and blu-rays that are legitimate releases. Will buy it on 4K as soon as it gets released. The bootleg is strictly for shits and giggles.
I loved your comment on recording tv shows on vhs... I still have a collection of those. It also got me into buying review screeners and emmy nom discs of shows that have no release yet, I still have those in my collection. I will buy boots of stuff I really want in my collection, but will replace when a real release comes available. And to your point of creators wanting their stuff, I think of the poor directors of Batgirl that tried to save some of their work but were locked out.
There’s people that buy bootleg because they don’t wanna pay expensive official release.
Honestly I hate Bootleg because I like collecting physical media but if I go to goodwill or thrift store and see bootlegs it just ruins the day.
Harmy’s “Despecialized” edition of the original Star Wars trilogy is the only one I’ve purchased. We will probably never get an official release of the trilogy. It’s 1080i anamorphic. While not perfect, it is still amazing. The amount of work put into them is above and beyond. Highly recommended!
You are correct the unaltered theatrical versions will never get an official physical release ever again as George Lucas had it put in the contract when he sold the rights to the Franchise that they can never be released again as his Special Editions with all the changes and CGI added stuff is now the official Star Wars this is why I still own the 2006 Dvds despite also owning the 2011 remasters on Blu Ray as it is the last time the theatrical cuts will be on official physical media
I got plenty of them and they are on 1080p look a lot better then dvds any day of the week. I’m very happy to have them
Oh man, I so agree with you.... Give me the option to get the official release on physical media and I will 100% support it ! But how can any studios complains about bootleg blu rays if they don't offer the option to get ligit discs ! I mean come on....
I had an Aunt and Uncle who decided to save money by canceling their cable but before they did they spent a couple months both them and my cousins were constantly recording movies tv shows and even MTV
Before Ebay came about, I used to rent my wrestling VHS's from the video store and record them to another VHS. I still have most of them lol
Physical media started because of rentals. The only renter left is redbox. Streaming is better for them…they think. The problem is they haven’t caught up to the boutique trend. Hell you can get new music on vinyl and cassette easier than cd sometimes. They are just missing an entire revenue stream because they think it’ll push streaming but what it really does is alienate their most loyal and repetitive customers. Heads firmly implanted…you know where.
I actively seek uncensored, unedited Galaxy Quest with no qualms. They've had enough chances to get it right through various reissues and anniversary editions and they haven't done it yet.
I have been collecting Movies for Decades and If I can find a Legal Copy of a Movie or TV series that I want, I will buy them. However there are Many series and movies that are not being released to Physical Media, this leaves bootleg copies as the only choice left. The companies that create these products cannot complain about bootleg copies if they are unwilling to release these on Physical Media.
I agree. Studios don't want to put out, go somewhere else. I have some, I have some from the past I replaced with legit releases when they finally came out. I have even gone so far as import since not released here in the US. Studios release and there is a market for them.
Made me think of all the silent films that were lost but that was a different issue for many.
I don't have any boot blurays but do have some regular boot dvds and vhs from years ago. These were obscure movies that have still never gotten any official releases on dvd.
Totally agree with you!
I just picked up Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead on dvd because it doesn’t have a bluray
If the studios don't put them out, I'm gonna have it how ever I can get it.
Sucks for them if they only want to keep it on streaming because I literally don't have any streaming subscriptions at all.
I have a Blu-ray DVD of True Lies and I actually love it 😀 😄 It's the Spanish packaging 📦 edition of it but it has a English 5.1 Audio track on it and it sounds Spectacular on my floor speakers 🔊 and the picture is cool as well. Now I'm waiting on the 4k of it but I'm still keeping this Blu-ray of True Lies 👊👊📽
I have the Roger Corman F4 on bootleg BD. That’s about the only one I can think of that I own. Also the Nickelodeon TMNT series.
I am on board 100%. If these studios can't see that they have more than enough people that are willing to buy physical media releases, then that's their fault and anybody that says they never bought anything bootlegged or damn liars. And yes, my dad used to do the whole blockbuster/ Hollywood video rent a movie, and record it. We had two to three VCRs in our house at all times. 😅 I support whatever people want to send there money on! We had so many bootleg VHS movies that my dad used to get. I couldn't even count and if our basement didn't get flooded I would literally still own all those VHS's because we had thousands of them. But when our basement got flooded we damn near lost everything. Keep up the great work. Ken, let them know the truth.
Thanks for watching Nick!
So I took a day to think about this and here are my thoughts.
I don’t support piracy, but like yourself and so many, these production companies need to get on it. Give us a legit physical media copy of these movies.
There are millions of dollars in physical media and collectors like yourself and so many others would definitely buy it. Hell I spent $176 for a legit copy of Black X-Mas (2006), even though I could’ve got a $10 bootleg version.
So like you said it’s a scary thought, stores are making their physical media shelves smaller and smaller and it scares me. Thank you Ken for this great video.
Thank you Bill. It's very tough and there are so many ways to look at it. I don't necessarily support the piracy of films either, but if that's the only option, it kind of forces your hand.
What other options do we have if studios won't release?
I have some bootlegs in my collection. All but 4 are Netflix movies. One of them is the same The Abyss you have at the beginning of the video. Yes True Lies is another of them. The 3rd is Nicole Kidman's first film BMX Bandits which the studio release was OOP at the time I purchased it. I now own an Umbrella release of it. The 4th is Song of the South because I wanted to see what the hype was all about. One of my biggest regrets as far as bootlegs go is not getting all those Netflix ones from Stinky Tuna before they went really underground. Last I knew you had to basically beg for an invite to the Tuna Train which I did twice never got an answer. That's where I got all mine from including the non-Netflix.
Gosh. So many of these movies you mentioned in this video I have on VHS and dvd. I am a huge VHS collector.
All great movies!
YOU RELEASE IT,
THEY WONT BOOTLEG IT
Simple ... People want to have
what they like
Cool video levels
Good points. Unfortunately, I kind of agree on your thoughts. I know that I'd not hesitate to get a bootleg of Disney's DuckTales 2017 if it is never officially released.
I have a ton of them because no real release exists. I make my own cover art and put them right into my collection. If it gets a real release, I always buy it.. There is nothing wrong with it at all. I got them all for free, I would never pay money for a bootleg..
I have bought some bootleg DVDs in the past. Quality so bad. Like you said we'll do what we've got to sometimes just to have it physically.
Ok, yes exactly!! Thank you for calling BS when everyone had VHS tapes of recorded movies/tv shows back in the day. Great video!!
My mind always goes to the VHS tapes. Lol... Thanks for watching Fish!
So, movies you have on blu-ray that's never come out officially on blu-ray. What are the scans used? Are they recording these movies digitally when aired on some HD channel on cable? I know some are taken from streaming and put on discs, but others have never been on streaming. And are they are all actually in HD, or is it standard def on a blu-ray disc?
I have bootleg of fright night part 2 and looks pretty good
Thankfully we have Prey, The Abyss, and True Lies on 4K now. Just curious, what do you do with your bootleg blu rays once you buy the official versions? Do you toss them in the trash or just give them to someone? I don't think you could give those to thrift stores or Goodwills.
I just ordered 2 shows that don’t exist physically - they’ve only ever been streaming with no release in sight. I feel the same, I’d buy them the moment they came out officially and would rather not buy boots, but what choice do I have?
There are some I've thought of getting but worry about buying them online I doubt the studios would go after a buying for a movie or tv show here or there they would probably just shut down the website.
@@jasona5283 I get mine on eBay, so don’t worry too much about it being shut down! haha
Ken, theres a few Prey blu-rays available from Sri-Lanka
Ken before you 'pass on' the bootleg titles, might it be possible to compare the pucker studio release to the bootleg?
I have a few on dvd and on vhs as a kid but not many on blu ray
BOOTLEGS HAVE BEEN GOIN ON SINCE THE 1990S MAN I STILL HAVE MY HALLOWEEN 6 PRODUCERS CUT DVD BOOTLEG
Help! Please tell me where I can get a Blu-ray bootleg of Nate and Hayes! No digital either.
Bootleg movie prison😂 almost sounds like chip N Dale and that movies plot😂
I agree with you this is not a cut and dry argument. And streaming for large parts of the Great Nation is still not a truly viable option given the weak suave bandwidth we have as a whole.
I’ve never recorded a movie from blockbuster! ::kicks VHS under the bed:: I bought Song of the South Blu-ray bootleg lol 😂
I would kill to get the Abys bootleg. I only have that DVD that's only 480.
Hi is Disney going to release The Manalorian season 3 on 4K steel book because I got it on bootleg blu rays
I have the Beverly Hillbillies on DVD. I love it and hope it comes out of blu ray or 4k
Same here!
If its not released on bluray, how can you get a bluray quality transfer on a copied disc? Where did they get the transfer from? Are you sure its not just a dvd rip put in a bluray case?
The first bootleg Blu ray I got was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 and the picture is amazing and shows like a regular blu ray
I saw the DiscFather attacking unnamed person too.
I think those who are against bootleg movies are hypocrites because if they stopped making physical media those same ppl would buy the bootleg ones.
I would buy bootleg movies and tv shows if the companies don’t sell them.
I would buy them legitimately once they are released.
I'd buy them legitimately as well, but until then. These bootlegs are preserving films/shows for the future in case companies never release them to physical media
@@F1989C
Yep.
Plus if we buy just the digital ones it isn’t guaranteed that we own it.
I don’t trust companies.
@@AndNowThis.. same, I really don't trust any of the current companies today💯
Gotta preserve the TV and movies we love!
But how is the quality of True Lies and The Abyss on these bootleg blurays? Did they just upscale them from the DVD sources?
I own 2. The first X-Men movie from the 90's Generation X, and A Mom For Christmas... but I got had on that one.. it wasn't intentional.
I would like to see how to tell the difference between bootleg vs official release.
I've came close to buying True Lies and The Abyss bootlegs but have held off. At the moment, the only bootlegs I have are the Star Wars De-Specialized editions and Prey. I also have A Blu-Ray of Bright with Will Smith. But I don't consider it a bootleg, as it is a "promo" copy I bought online.
Ok, still watching.... but also keep in mind, older shows and movies.... some of those will never see a physical release and if they do, they'll be edited for content and/or music rights issues. Streamers are well within their rights to pull content whenever or if a contract runs up. It's a real thing.
I buy all my movies but I'd definitely get a good bootleg of the movie Near Dark because it's hard to find at a decent price 😊
You have a very sensible take on this topic. I dont even know why this is an issue. If someone buys a bootleg, it is not anyone else's business. Its a bit presumptuous to accuse someone for having a bootleg blu ray. I dont have any bootlegs. But for movies without a blu ray release, i get why some people may buy a bootleg. Prey's lack of physical release for example, is very frustrating. Bottom line, if i had a bootleg, I'd know its a stain on my collection. But its a personal decision. Its silly to pass judgement on someone else. Noone prefers a bootleg to an official.
Honestly, i sometimes think a streaming service's decision not to release physical is a way to try to coerce people to continue their streaming subscription.
I definitely agree with you.
Can't say it's something I agree with.
I believe the bootleg does harm physically media.
I feel those that buy them will not buy again if they are released.
But, that's just me. For me I just can't see how a bootleg will be as good as "proper" BR/4K. I personally can wait fir an official release. If that never comes then so be it, there are plenty of other to buy.
People are free to do as they please, I just chose not too.
To each his or her own do what you feel is right for you I have a bootleg set of the original star wars trilogy unaltered i don't see a official set coming from disney anytime soon but i have a set on blu-ray and it looks and sounds great
ALRIGHT KEN! Pass the collection plate!!!
😂😂😂
I buy bootleg blu-rays and DVDs all the time Ken it's a good way to see a movie to see if I like it or not and if I like it then I'll buy the actual copy or maybe just keep the bootleg LoL 😆 I have Barbarian on DVD
Yep, I've got Prey too :)
Hi Ken, I fully agree about not wanting to support streaming versions or having it digitally. If we all went out and bought barbarian digitally it sends out the wrong message, and of course we don't actually own it still. It's absurd to want to force people to possibly subscribe to five different streaming services and for a lesser experience of sound and picture quality. I don't want to be lowest common denominator happy to stream.
I have Song of the South and Rumpelstiltskin (1996). Both mean a lot to me. I grew up with SotS and I had a crush on the lady from Rumpelstiltskin (also in Passions) as a teen. I've got a handful of others, most of which were out of print at the time when I got them. As soon as anything legitimately comes up on at least Blu-ray, I'll get it, even if I keep the bootleg for nostalgia value or I'm waiting for a reasonable price. I'm not paying 3x or more to an aftermarket seller unless it's a must own movie/tv show (top 5-10) for me doesn't count.
I had physical copies of first 3 seasons of agents of shield on blu ray then stopped due to Netflix and Disney taking over I don't dare get bootleg to finish
Still wish they'd put the unaltered Original Trilogy on 4K. They can label is "Legends" if they want. But just put it out.
When Dawn of the Dead 1978 was out of print, and also unavailable on streaming/digital, I found and downloaded a video file of the Blu Ray transfer because there was no other option. HOWEVER, when the 4K edition from Second Sight came out, I was more than happy to delete my pirated version and buy the official release (which is better quality anyway, but even if it was simply a re-issue of the previous Blu Ray I still would have bought it and deleted my pirated copy). I plan to do the same with, say, Braindead (Dead/Alive) which is also out of print and unavailable to watch. Peter Jackson has said that he is working on a 4K remaster, so it that gets an official release I will also be perfectly happy to delete my pirated copy and buy the official release.
I will but bootlegs of every film I want until there is a legitimate physical release… the vast majority are streaming exclusives so most will NEVER see a legitimate release.
When I was a kid, we used to rent so many movies and copy them onto blank VHS tapes. I would often by my favorites on VHS tapes and had a large collection. I had boxes of VHS tapes of movies, eventually getting rid of them as I replaced them on DVD/Blu-Ray.
I will pick up bootleg DVD/Blu-Ray if there is no official release. I'll also pick up foreign releases if I there is no US Release. I've been waiting years for some movies to get a US Release when there's been a foreign release for years. I don't get it, it's already be released but sometimes they never end up with a US Release. At least in some cases.
It's all down to licensing the studio only licenses content for a certain country so it can't be released anywhere else hence the need for importing which also requires you to have a region free player for Dvd and Blu Ray to be able to watch it
The only ones I have is The Despecialized Editions of the Original Star Wars trilogy because it's the only way to watch them.
Great comments I support physical media 100% but if I can get a Blu ray copy of True lies right now then I am in studios and need to be more fort worth and put movies out and stop holding them in their movie vaults.
