I'll take Jaws the Revenge over Jaws 3 any day of the week. Loved having Lorraine Gary return (who was nominated for a Saturn Award as Best Actress for her role). PQand AQ looked FANTASTIC! Biggest disappointment: Universal should've included the 'alternate ending' via seamless branching as opposed to a stand alone bonus feature.
I watched this movie like a million times one summer in Jr High back in like 88, so this was a must have for me. I’m happy I got the whole set in 4K Steelbook…. Had to pay a pretty penny for a sealed copy of part 1 (BBY Steelbook release)
The ending that's currently available on home media is 100% reshoots, because the original ending of the film saw the shark get impaled by the broken bowsprit, the boat gets broken in half, and the shark sinks to the bottom still impaled by the bowsprit. It then fades to the airport runway scene: ua-cam.com/video/YqiWWmAEfTA/v-deo.html It was bad, but at least made SOME sense. For whatever godforsaken reason, that ending was discarded and instead we got that abomination of a re-shot ending where the shark inexplicably explodes, Jake survives, and there's a voiceover when Ellen boards the plane telling Michael to take care of Jake (an overdub by Lorraine Gary since originally Jake doesn't survive). That scene in the tank where Michael swims over to Jake was part of reshoots done when the decision was to change the ending and have Jake live. For what it's worth, Jake doesn't survive in the novelization either.
As a lifelong fan of the jaws franchise I have always loved jaws the revenge as much as the others and I still consider it a favourite so in the uk when it comes out August Day one buy for me and still getting jaws 3 day one
There's a famous quote by Michael Caine about the movie that I find amusing. He said- "I have never seen the film, but by all accounts it was terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific." Meaning of course, he was able to build his home from the paycheck he received from the movie.
if its so famous, why do you need to put it up? some idiot literally puts this quote up on EVERY jaws 4 video .. WE KNOW what he said... stop banging on about it...
Definitely not one of the worst movies ever. Exorcist 2 still holds that crown. Not the best of the Jaws franchise but a decent summer popcorn flick. Had to get the steelbook to complete my set.
Awesome videos Ken! I think it's time for you to update your audio system. You have no idea what you're missing, I think as a movie collector enthusiast, it's time to treat yourself to some good audio.
Mrs Brody Takes the boat goes off to either Stop or Kill Jaws ? She had No Visible weapons around her on board and just drove out into the deeper sea for no good reason in how to deal with Jaws ?
I'll be blunt the only Jaws films I'll own in 4k will be Jaws 1 and 2 once I get a 4k player. The only way I'll consider getting Jaws 3 is if the picture and sound are better than blu-ray you will never see me adding Jaws the Revenge to my physical media library. When Jaws the Revenge came out on blu-ray for just five bucks I passed on it. That's how bad the film is to me there is absolutely nothing positive that I can say about the fourth film as a Jaws fan. In terms of Jaws 3 despite some of it's problems with the 3D it's at least a guilty pleasure to watch for fun.
Hi Ken, I agree with you on many points. I have a few comments. #1. Its Lorraine Gary, not Gray, but anyway... I'm quite happy with the improvements in 4K over the Blu-ray for #3 & #4. #3 on Blu-ray is so awful and cannot watch it. #2 dropped the ATMOS which I found disappointing. ATMOS on #3 is quite good with the under water scenes having above water sounds overhead.
I love the opening 10 mins. The Xmas theme and the shark killing the younger bro was a nice touch. But it’s down hill from there. Lance guest and Mario van pebbles are good also
My mum liked the film she enjoyed it i think it was because michael cain was in this and could relate to the film more she liked all the other jaws films as well. i liked jaws 2 it seem to have the better action but it's been a long time since i watched any jaws film i wasn't all that impressed with jaws 3D it was a more gimmick thing like when we first had the 3d glasses put inside the breakfasts cereal boxes we used to have back in the 70's to sell their products buy putting little toys inside and then begins the new era of kinder surprise 😲 😲 here in the UK
I recently Saw a part of Jaws 4 from this 4k Transfer On UA-cam here recently and the Waters looked amazing down in the Bahamas even more so looking , way more Light Blue ish to me , light Aquamarine blues ?
No point in paying an arm and a leg for these rn. The price will plummet on them soon enough. And the steelbooks aren't worth getting at those ridiculous prices. Especially when one of the transfer's is atrocious. People need to stop buying into fomo. The old Blu-ray set is perfectly fine for now 😆
On first watch even as a kid, I loathed Martin dying and Lorraine being allured to that pilot's Hoggie. Shark action was okay, a little boring. Mario Van Peebles was fun.
I saw this in the theater on its release. I hated it then, and here we are thirty seven years later.I have never owned a copy of that film and I never will. If it was atrociously bad and the third one was mildly stomakable, which I do own that one, and of course, the first two films, our perfection
In U.S in fact they do come with slipcovers but unfortunately in canada they do not which is disappointing ( must be very costly for them to add the extra French print on them 😞)
Jaws 3 and revenge to me are the best fun movies. Plus I love the cheesy animatronics, the more easy fun filming. Everything today is so so over produced! With the worst and most boring actors.
Being as I work with AI for my job, I know working with it can be somewhat complex, however I think they used it to try and "fix up" this film in the cheapest way possible. Until it's redone without the AI mess, I won't be picking up this 4k personally, unless it's available super cheap
Ah yes, a film in which a woman seemingly has a psychic connection with a shark and the shark inexplicably explodes when the aforementioned woman rams her boat into it.
Crypt of The Lost Children, I thought was the worst film, until I saw The Beaster Bunny, on Amazon Prime. Now That's the Number one worst film ever. That's what I think.
8:35 And the Characters Jake and Hios Crew Dont Seem Concerned At all Visibly as The Shark appears. The just look down around at it and Jake keeps Calling it a Big Fish.
No special features is just lazy, TBH. Every single movie from that era had something akin to an EPK made for it. Some interviews with the cast and a quick BTS. These segments would play on the premium movie channels in between movies when they were featured that month.
Oh Jesus man how can you say that it's not the worst movie ever made? I can literally spit fire off the top of my head the faults with this movie. But the worst sin this film has committed is it killed the franchise we haven't had a new film in 37 years. We've had several shark films over the years but not a single studio has suggested giving us a requel to Jaws. I personally think that the franchise can be saved if they can write a good story, with a good cast, and set it after Jaws 2 ignoring 3 and 4.
I like The Practical Goofy Faced shark they use ovrr say CGI I recent saw a comparrison video where someone recreated the Brody son swims frantic away from Jaws in part 4 to the ship wreck etc and one version this uploader was trying had a way real great white shark looking effect going on split screen above the real theatrical shark. I think the full real look of the shark Ruins the Horror effect somehow unless Its a movie only like 48 Meters down or Open water series etc, In the Movie The Shallows , Or The Meg , The big CGI ugh Sharks looks best when under water in the dark waters too shadowy hidden effects besides again I find only practical sharks are best to use. Plus Please Let the Director Renny Harlin Make Another Deep Blue Sea Movie , Just Fun Suggesting. Just My opinions.
It's definitely not one to take too seriously. The first two are the only ones that warrant people's attention, but the last two are still fun movies and deserve some appreciation for at least trying to tell stories that pertain to the Brody family.
@midlevelmedia Lorraine Gary and there is an interesting story her and Schieder hated each other . He put up quite a stink doing the second film but he was bound by contract to do so

Ken loves Jawls the Revenge more than Jawls 2.
Agreed
Do they have Doby Vision?
The opening of JTR still packs a punch. Brilliant score by M Small.

My favorite is the huge water tank shots where you can see the "ocean" waves bouncing against the backdrop of the sky.
The ending is obvious with the fish tank. It just screams reshoot.
Yup. That’s on the thumbnail. 🤣
@@unconditionalprong well no, it doesnt scream reshoot at all, because the ending was ALWAYS in the tank, and the ocean was always hitting the wall.
The ending that's currently available on home media is 100% reshoots, because the original ending of the film saw the shark get impaled by the broken bowsprit, the boat gets broken in half, and the shark sinks to the bottom still impaled by the bowsprit. It then fades to the airport runway scene:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I enjoy them all, and would say I enjoy watching Revenge more than Jaws 3.
Nothing beats Mario Van Peebles Jamaican accent! “Dem sharks in dat water Michael!”
lol I love the Jake character mon, he da best ting in the movie
Hahaha. He was Bahamian not Jamaican. Lol
Dont be correctin my language mon!!! Dem Sharks out dere!!!!
Being from Massachusetts must have in the collection..I love all films..3+The Revenge both had slip covers for me.
Im pretty sure Jaws the Revenge has the original (alternate) ending on the bonus features.
Lorraine GARY, not Grey.
Was gonna post same comment.
I like this one. Nostalgia no doubt because this was in tv so much growing up. The Christmas scenes in the beginning, Hoagie is the man
BRUCE the shark from ''PART 1'' was the REALEST looking shark.
The fact this great transfer was put out the exact same day as the Jaws 3 transfer…
I kinda wish your thumbnail caption for this one said “THAT’S A WALL.” 😂 Great video man.

I just received both my Jaws 3 and The Revenge with slipcovers
Great review buddy. Was actually fortunate to catch 3 and 4 in the theater and will definitely pick these up.
The reviews on these has just reinforced my decision to wait to buy the 2/3/4 bundle during a sale.
And I don't know why we can't even get a stereo version of JAWS 2.
Christmas movie, or not a Christmas movie?? That is the question…
It's a Christmas movie! My wife says not ... At least half of it is. From Christmas to New Year's Day.
Dont like it when people say "clean" and "sharp" while also not mentioning grain. Is there DNR or is there the natural and true grain present?
Awesome videos Ken! I think it's time for you to update your audio system. You have no idea what you're missing, I think as a movie collector enthusiast, it's time to treat yourself to some good audio.
"Jawls" 😂😂😂
They could have put the 2 alternate endings on at least.
Mrs Brody Takes the boat goes off to either Stop or Kill Jaws ? She had No Visible weapons around her on board and just drove out into the deeper sea for no good reason in how to deal with Jaws ?
I love JAWS 4 for the mere fact we get back some legacy characters and actors!! Also, where did you get that media storage case??
Arrow October slate just got spoiled. Trick r Trick 4k and a US version of the Hellraiser 4k set.
It’s the same Hellraiser release as last year, which was US.

Jaws The Revenge looks and sounds really good, but damn as a movie, it sucks golf balls through a garden hose.
