      I love dead nettle! I’m definitely one of the people that stopped taking allergy pills because of it. Haven’t had to take one in 3 years now. I use that or stinging nettle depending on what I have on hand. How’d it go for you?

    Our son doesn't have a back lawn, but a Dead Nettle full ground cover. It is from fence to fence and thick and under the kids swing set. It is soft and beautiful, and you can use it like April said! ...and I run over and make lots of tincture from our son's 'lawn'.

    My 3rd comment here lol.....just wanted to say you've inspired me....I usually would not tincture anything if I didnt have enough for a quart jar, but now I'm just grabbing it when i see it and if it's just a pint, so be it! I did 2 cleaver tinctures days apart cuz i could only get to enough for a pint each time❤

    Thank you, April. I've never heard of dead nettle, though my garden is swarming in stinging nettle(I know they're not related😉). Since watching you I'm excited to go and find these herbs in the wild. The closest open land to us in our area is Turkock Lake that I want to go and see what I can identify cause I've seen so many plants out there that I've never seen before because this is all new to me. I need to find books about our native plants first, though. 🤸🌞🌻🤠💚I think you're wonderful, btw. So much appreciation for your generosity, encouragement and authenticity. 🤗🌼

    Hello April. I love the abundance of knowledge you so openly share with with the world, your humor, your encouragement, thank you! As someone who is highly sensitive to alcohol, I'm exploring alternatives to alcohol-based tinctures. Do you have suggestions? I know you mention alcohol vs water soluble properties a lot... Would herbalism, without the use of alcohol, be limiting the bioavailability of medicinal constituents? Do you know of any books/resources which focus on alcohol-free apothecaries? Thoughts? Thank you!

      Try herbal vinegars, infusions, teas, honey, capsules. All of these are great ways to utilize herbs without alcohol and the capsules in particular will make sure you're not missing any properties because you'll be ingesting the plant as a whole ☺️

    Thank you so much for all of your videos! I’m hoping you can help me with a couple of questions about the PDN and tincturing. I noticed you didn’t do any chopping. Is it best not to chop the PDN? Last year when I made it I actually used a quad blade herb scissors, does that negatively affect it? Also, the ants in my area (Central/Southern NJ) love this and they’re ridiculously difficult to be sure you’ve gotten them all off, they have a way on disappearing into the buds. I typically harvest from rather unmolested areas and therefore don’t usually rinse. Is that bad? Should I rinse everything? If I do rinse, can it still be damp when I tincture? If by chance I happen to tincture a few ants, is that okay? Is there anything you would never tincture without rinsing first? The only thing that I’ve ever rinsed/cleaned before tincturing is my Poke root. Other than the Poke root and PDN, the only tinctures I’ve made are Honeysuckle vine blooms, Lemon balm, and Lemon thyme. And I used the quad blade herb scissors for all of the herbs. Is it okay to mince it to that extreme? I know you often say you don’t have to chop things too small and probably winced when reading about my overkill, but is it okay if I do choose to do it that way? One last question, I’ve never strained any of mine, I just dip a spoon in and let it drip directly from the spoon into whatever, is there anything wrong with that? I know this is a lot, I definitely appreciate any assistance. I’ve purchased your book (personal story) and found it incredible, you are an example in perseverance. I also hope to be quick enough to buy some of your pit goop (I think that’s what it’s called) when it next becomes available! Thank you again in advance!

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  4 місяці тому

      Heya! Chop if you want to but not big deal if you can't, no need to rinse your herbs, set them out on cardboard for a few hours outside and the bugs will likely crawl away as the sense the plant is dying, also bugs in tincturing is unavoidable, even with dried plant there will be dead/milled in bugs, okay to pull out of a jar with plants still in it but don't let the plants get above alcohol level and you also risk oxidation when leaving the plant matter in while creating air space from reducing the volume of alcohol 💚

      Totally different plants that aren't related at all😊 this is called "Dead nettle" (it's actually a mint) and Stinging Nettle (not a mint).

    I have a wild lettuce tincture I made from your tutorial but it’s like 3 years old. I forgot to take the herbs out. It’s just been sitting. Is it okay?

      No need, can lay them out on some cardboard for a few hours in case there are any bugs they'll crawl away 😊
