Thank you for the compliments my dear son... be careful what you say or I might move out there and become a cougar. You surely are correct in saying that becoming plant based has changed my life for the better, yes going on 72 and I have never felt so good. Amazing the changes to my body inside and out. You are never too old to get healthy. Thank you.. you are my inspiration. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing by helping us all shine our best light and live our best life. Xoxo

    For Fe N:
I am currently in this situation! I was vegan, stupidly went to vegetarian, and am now going back. My fiance is not vegan and had told me he never plans to be. HOWEVER; I went vegan about 3 years into our relationship, so I'm not going to end it just because he won't adopt my diet. After about. 2 years without meat, I STILL get made fun of like crazy by friends, family, and even coworkers. I just try to brush it off because I was there. In high school, I tried going vegetarian and failed (for various reasons) - I told everyone that I loved meat too much. As Derek said, just be the light. Answer any questions people may have, even If they're trying to make fun of you for it. It's not worth the fights and debates personally. Just keep your head up and know that this community is here for you! 😍

I know people who say they „have the connection“ but still continue to eat animal products. That’s when I get frustrated. But.. „Be the lighthouse“ is such a strong saying, beautiful. Being a good example and be fit, people will notice and get curious. And whenever people ask, they want to know more about your diet. But for me personally, it’s still really hard seeing people eat animal products. I don’t think that feeling will ever go away. For me it helped to join a veganfamilies group, they meet once a month. Xoxo

I've always head problems with sweating a lot but this creme is really helping. It's super easy to make and you can prepare a big batch that will last you for ages. Y'all should definitely give it a try. I only have German recipes for it but I'm sure there are enough English ones out there as well.

Old video so not sure if you'll see this Derek but just from seeing the ingredients in the video, your deodorant has potassium alum in it. That is aluminium basically. Also the crystal rocks are made from potassium alum or other alums which are also aluminium. I've really struggled finding a vegan natural deodorant that isn't full of chemicals but actually works. Powder deo made from just baking soda and arrow root powder, lemons or tea tree oil have been the ones that work best for me. Hope you are well and keep up the amazing inspiring videos. X

Great job and such a great attitude as always Derek - it's the food and moving that body of course! Just to add onto a couple of the questions: 1. If you're happy with two meals and like D said - meeting all of your caloric needs then great. This is actually very beneficial to the body especially if one of the meals is predominantly fruit and you have no digestive issues. Fruit digests quickly (10 min-30 min max depending on fruit for most). This frees up energy for performance but even more importantly for detoxification - this is why less meals is always better. Question 2: Your body needs to sweat it's one off the ways it gets rid of toxins. And the lymphatic system is essentially your toilet: it drains through your sweat glands, lungs and kidneys - making sure all of those channels are freed up is essential (run like a BC mountain lion from antiperspirants) !

I suffer from depression, anxiety and addiction. I have never been real active and have been using sugar and fatty foods as a way to escape my feelings. A week ago I decided enough is enough and have been eating vegan and doing a small workout every morning (10 minute push-ups + sit-ups). I don’t use weights and can’t currently afford a gym membership.

I shower daily and have zero problem with odor. I carry a purse-sized spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spritz under my arms before/after the gym. Odor is caused by bacteria digesting sweat and other bodily secretions. Alcohol kills bacteria, and no bacteria means no odor. I’ve been doing this for years with no negative effects. Deodorant and antiperspirant, on the other hand, caused me major issues with clogged pores and ingrown hairs (disgusting, I know).
Derek, I was wondering if you have ever done a prolonged fast of say three days or more. I have read of the numerous health benefits associated with a longer fast and am considering this as a reset.

I heard dr. Greger say that ideal food combining is a myth, although I think most people would agree that fruits and beans, for example doesn't sound like a good mix. On that note, I think my actual question is what is your opinion on something like, Ayurvedic food combinations? (most of the "problem" combinations would go away just by eliminating animal foods) but it says, for example that fruit should be eaten alone, and don't go well with any other food, and i have noticed that when i eat a meal of just fruit, or oats with nuts and seeds even in large quantities, i don't feel tired afterwards, but when i ate oats with fruit or/and with seeds, i felt tired and bloated afterwards, even in small quantities. Thanks, your channel is great!

QUESTION about Vegan Probiotics before going to a Cancun Resort... But first thank you Derek and Crystal for illustrating a healthy, happy and adventurous vegan lifestyle. Honoured to be on board and to own the Simnett Nutrition Recipe Book!...
Do I need to prepare my stomach for Mexico with probiotics even if I consume miso soups, tempeh, olives and nut milks on a regular basis? I offered to buy vegan probiotics but my meat eating friends want to buy their own because they don't feel that vegan probiotics would help protect their gut health when they will be consuming animal products. My answer was, protect your gut health by eating plant based foods with me! But I didn't have the educated answer to the probiotics question. Thank you

Really like your videos and tips. My only critique is that not all chemicals are “harsh” and I think it is misleading how a lot of folks believe using natural oils or essential oils are any better for our skin. Essential oils are mostly just fragrances and our skin and bodies do not really recognise these or make any use of them. Natural oils supplied directly on to the skin may make our skin feel more supple but they don’t help protect the skin barrier very well since they slick right off. This is something I have recently learnt about through dermatologists. I am often attracted by “natural” labels but in the context of beauty or skin products I think it is misleading to always be summarising these many products that use “chemicals” as bad as there is often proof that certain ingredients are in fact good and have been designed to work together with our biology to assist our skin to keep moisture. I think organic is very important and there are obviously lots of products we don’t need that contain chemicals, but I just wanted to make the point that diy skin care or using oils on their own is mostly a myth to be any better for the skin from what I have learnt from dermatologists (who favour vegan products) and that not all chemicals are bad for us or not suitable for vegans. I strive for a balance between vegan and science so this is just my take on my journey so far that I wanted to share.

I use milk of magnesium as deodorant. Check ingredients to make sure it isn't flavored or with dyes. I get a cheap Dollar General brand. I leave the the cap off and let it evaporate some of the water a bit and it thickens up a bit and you can just put it on with one finger and rinse. I like it better than the coconut oil. I don't smell and neither does my hubby.

Hey Derek! Thanks for another video packed full of awesomeness! I have been vegan for 4 months and your videos are a lighthouse guiding my way. Stay the course! 2 questions... Do you eat differently on recovery days vs. training days? Also, what are your thoughts on vegans owning pets? I know you have a cat. I do as well and feel bad when I have to buy meat products for her and give my money to companies that I wouldn't otherwise support. This seems to be a debatable topic for many vegans. What are your thoughts?
    *Update*
I found the video about "vegan cats" from 2 years ago(great vid btw). That pretty much answered my question. Now I'm curious, what DO you feed your cats? I still have a moral dilemma with supporting a company I don't believe to have ethical business practices.

Hi Derek, how are you? Thank you for your inspiration.
My question is: what do you do during rest days? Do you completely rest or Do you move your body with a nice walk in the forest? Do you train but softly? I usually practice yoga but some time is stressing too. Thank you!! A big Hug!

Rest days I usually do some active movement, like going for a walk or slow jog in nature. I will stretch, foam roll and sometimes do a bit of ab work (nothing crazy) too. Depends on how I am feeling (sore/tired)

Hey Derek - thanks for the inspo! My husband had to stop and do some pull ups on a tree branch in your honour yesterday :'). Question for next week:- Other then the health benefits, from your personal experience, what would you say are the positive outcomes when following a vegan lifestyle or has there been any negatives??. Thanks ! x

In regards to what he said about the crystal deodorant.. all of them contain alum, a term for aluminum salts such as potassium aluminum sulfate or ammonium aluminum sulfate.

Great motivational speaking! The lighthouse quote is really helpful. I saw in an earlier ask me Monday that you don’t eat honey and don’t consider it to be vegan. Have you looked into the debate about figs not being vegan? And if not, please do and then share your thoughts in the next ask me Monday!

Derek! The deodorant I wear is a natural one called Schmidt's, it's all natural and works just as well as mainstream deodorant (and I'm at an active job as well as being an active person). I got it at Winner's, which I think you have in Vancouver :) just thought I'd let you know if you're unsatisfied with the effectiveness of your current deodorant!

Hi. I love your videos! I also love how you film in nature. I love being in nature as well but I live in the city so seeing you walk in the woods is so nice. My question is have you ever been backpacking? Would you like to if you haven't gone before? My dad and I are going on a trip in September so I was curious!

Barrier....Bear....I laughed out loud, for longer than was probably natural! I grow horsetail reed and wrap them up in a bunch to create a scrub "brush" to clean shovels and other rough stuff.

The crystal deodorant works great! But like Derek says you need to put it on basically as soon as you turn off the shower and rub it around for 30 seconds minimum.

Hey Derek, I'm a high school student from the U.S. and I plan on going to the Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Vancouver. I want to work in the health/nutrition field and I really like the idea of becoming a CNP. Anyway my question is, is there anything I should do to prepare for applying at IHN? Did you need any prior experience working in nutrition? And what kind of jobs were available to you once you graduated? Thanks for the help and I really love your videos, keep up the good work, man.
