matt - lifts the false floor and reveals first aid kit
matt: wow look at how deep this is
matt - closes it
matt: i wonder if the first aid kit is still here
Sometimes I can’t see further than the end of my nose 😂
@@HighPeakAutos 😂😂😂
One handed filming. Good excuse.
9:49 😊
I was shouting at the screen. “You already seen it under the boot floor!”
The most bizarre thing is that Matt always finds these cars parked exactly the same😂 backside to the wall, and no cars directly around them.
Plus he arrives and his own car is already parked
🎉
C’mon a little bit of suspension of disbelief is a part of any movie magic.
And why always bay number 13? 😄
@@PaulValickas I know, it's Mattflix: we all love him for it. Only having a small laugh: he's/this is one of my favourite UA-cam channels!
Keep these "I brought a cheap " videos coming Matt, Absolutely love them
In fact, I'm selling my seat ibiza and these videos have helped me make it more presentable-- know what people are looking for!
They also helped me buy my new used car, a fiesta-- I wouldn't be able to inspect a car this well without seeing hundreds of your walk arounds lol
Haha that’s great to hear
I am interested in a seat ibiza, may I have more info if you dont mind
But now someone gets to enjoy a lovely A class for a few years.
Even when you get a lemon, you're still so positive and have a sense of humour about it. Keep doing these I Bought a Cheap ... they're fantastic.
Thanks!
Agree. My favourite kind of video. Entertaining and informative. Learnt so much from Matt.
@@version736ha2 cheers. I’ll keep doing them for as long as you all want me to
@@HighPeakAutos thanks. You keep it real, that's why the channel is so successful.
Do I watch a different channel to you???
Think it has to be pointed out, that you're doing a good thing by fixing up old cars and keeping them in the road, saving them from the scrap heap and keeping an old car on the road is as-good-if-not-better for the environment then driving a brand new tesla 👍🏻
What stands out for me after watching loads of your videos is that to a large extent buying a good used car requires a huge slice of luck, and if someone like yourself with all your knowledge ends up buying a lemon, what chance do us ordinary punters have
To be fair, most of these cars are bought blind.
10:13 Matt if you haven't realised yet, the first aid kit wasn't in the cubby but was under the false boot floor 😂
I was shouting that at the screen 🤣
@@RetroClinic Same 😂
At least you did take a small profit in the end, the car cleaned up really nice and as you did the final exterior shots I kept thinking someone will get a really nice car for their money with no unexpected surprises (as you fixed it properly). That has aged better than most mini MPV type cars and has the badge cachet that attracts people too.
As a proud A Class owner it’s good to see you paying homage to one of motoring’s finer vehicles!
This model of A class is really underrated, and I really agree with you that they are one of the best small (ish) cars on the road. The room inside the car makes it like a TARDIS. Matt, you need to get your mechanic to give you a list of parts then buy them from GSF, you'll save a few bob.
Dream on!
@@mariemccann5895 had my current a160cdi for 8 years now, touch wood but nothing other than serviceable parts, (oil, filters, brake pads) and a new battery, plus only £30 road tax per year.
@14:44 “feel like a bird on a perch” 😂
That’s how I feel when I drive it - very high driving position
I love these videos Matt, please keep them coming! As a video suggestion, maybe go through some of the stuff you look for when your buying used cars (outside of car vertical for example)? Genuinely curious on how you go about acquiring cars like this A Class
Loved the Partridge appreciation! Yes, it’s an extender!
Matt,
Its great watching your videos they just seem to get better and better, you really should have your own slot on tv, keep the vids coming.
I have this but silver, same age, bought mine 4 years ago for £1850 as has a mark on 1 door. Full merc history which ive kept up. Thats not a cup holder, you press it and a storage draw pops out. I love mine, but glad it doesn't have those headlights as i had a very expensive repair on another car with those type. Im still watching so haven't seen the conclusion yet lol hope its a profit. Love the sandwich floor safery feature, im sure you know, but in a front end collision the engine goes into the floor space to protect your legs. Edit, well that was a shame on the no profit, but you've turned it into a lovely purchase for whoever buys it 😊
I’m hooked on these Matt!
we've got one of these and it's the worst for fogging up. Reddit says it's a blocked A/C waste pipe :D
Business must be booming, always new video content.
Enjoy watching them, your a proper grafter Matt.
Got to love your honesty Matt. 👍
This channel has now become my go to. I lived in England for 27 years then moved to Germany
My first car was an A Class W169 180 CDI manual. Your overview of the problems to look out for on this and the black A Class was hugely informative.
I also use this to hunt for a second car (of course an Estate with a reasonable engine)
Thank you for the amazing content
Thanks for watching
“Some more bonnet releases here” 😂😂 that shouldn’t of made me laugh as much as it did
Another good video and very informative as usual Matt cheers mate!
I bought the older model 4 months old from a car rental company after the summer, auto and dark red. Great service for 4 years, them bought by my father in law for and sold by him after another 4. Fair price achieved after 8 years. No complaints from either of us. Being an ex rental car, it was a Classic or basic model. Put in a radio with CD (I knew how to live back then😊) with my model only having single DIN slot. Thanks for the great video, yet again.
You had me at the Partridge quote! 😂👏👏
Great vid mate!
I'm not buying a mini metro Lynn
I love this guys sense of humour! ❤
I had one years ago. It used to snap springs like nobodys business. And limp mode was a regular pain in the arse. That was when it was almost new.
Nice Partridge reference there Matt..lovely stuff.
It is a cute little car, I certainly agree that the colour does grow on the viewer, part way into the video, I did start to like it myself.
Anyway as usual Matt, you’ve made this car the best example it can be within reason, hopefully your next one will earn a profit for you😊.
Love your work 👍
Congratulations on your new Mercedes A-Class! 🎉
You've done the car and its new owner justice and a kindness
Matt is the most unbelievable honest car dealer I’ve ever come across!!! Just tells everyone like it is!! If I’m ever looking at buying a car I’ll always search his videos to see if he’s reviewed that car!!! Completely honest!! Never met him, but I’d buy a car from him!! Great guy!!
We had a 2006 A200 Turbo which was very much a warm hatch of its time - endless issues though and had to be sold shortly after to minimise losses.
Matt, thanks for saving this one.
I have a previous shape W168 A160 LWB. The leg room in the rear is insanely large. Back seats completely remove, even the front passenger seat, you could sleep in it if you wanted. A very smart package, and a great city car. Look after the gearbox with regular fluid changes, and fresh engine oil every year or 10,000km. It won't be fun to change things like water pump, alternator, or starter motor (if and when they go) or serpentine belt, but with a ramp most things can be done by the home mechanic.
A clever car that was meant to bring younger buyers to the brand, but instead the senior citizens loved it. It was killed off in about 2010 with the W169 (the same shape as your one here Matt) and over 1 million examples made.
I'll keep driving the wombat as long as it keep going (wombat, because it is grey, flat nosed, and slow).
Many who poke fun at the car have never ridden in one or owned one.
Keep fighting the good fight Matt.
The video was a good advert for your diligence on preparing a car for sale, so it was not a total loss.
That’s true I suppose
Matt, when you just press once on the Range Rover lock, it just locks it. You need to tap twice to lock *and* alarm it.
Genuinely think this generation of A Class is better than the newer traditional hatchback 'Golf' style A Class that replaced it. At least this generation was innovative and distinctive. Really practical cars too and I dare say better built than modern A Classes.
I hate I when I close the door on a modern car and I hear all the plastic queaking. But never have I ever heard that on an old second Gen. A-Class..
Ugly car though
If you want a practical car get a box car like the Scion xB or the Nissan Cube. That box look is significantly better looking than this snail shell.
I agree. Don't like the current gen looks. This model's looks was the best for A-Class, I think. Nice and compact.
I actually prefer the current A Class to this one. This one is ugly. It's like Mercedes-Benz couldn't decide whether they wanted to make this car round or boxy, and they just settled for both.
Heart of a lion with these used dogs 😂 but not all car dealers are hated, we all love you Matt 🎉
My Mrs had one, loved it for town practicality.. it was BT57 - an ex MB car as yours probably was too.
Lost value very quickly at about 2 year old to 6 years… sheeesh..
Great vids keep em coming Matt!
Another good video from the Great Entertainer!
Yes! it's an extender! Love the Alan Partridge references keep them coming
Its a real talent making a interesting video with a old A class Diesel Auto!! Great work. 😂👍🏻
Connoisseur of the Partridge. Splendid 😅 + Another great review
Another great review!
Swings and roundabouts my man.
Onwards and upwards 💪
As always, a true insight into the joys of buying a "prestige" car. Great video, Matt, it is always a pleasure to hear the vast list of broken things on a Merc or similar, where the owner of the car who sold it appears to have less class than it does. I like your optimism as you roll into the car park, and here am I saying hmmm... Can't wait for the next, we need an older Alfa to compare the horrors of ownership costs compared to a mainstream car.
The a class is not a prestige car it’s the entry level version of a Mercedes basically a car for a person who aspires to a Mercedes but cannot afford to buy a proper Mercedes and really should of brought a ford or vauxhall and been able to afford to run it
Alan Partridge reference at 7.40. Nice work
Another great video and another car saved matt you should wear red underpants and a Cape supermatt saves another 👏 you always go the extra mile wish more traders would be as honest and upfront as you matt 👍
Great journey on the wee A, looking at the bright side you made some coin from video content off it.
They are exceptionally practical cars. In the one I had (SWB) I could get 3 kids in the back and a tumble drier in the boot in that deep recess. The rear seats and sometimes the passenger seat are removable and that flat floor make it an excellent transporter. Picked up an Alfa 3 litre V6 in mine too - like a van. The front ARB mounts needed changing more frequently than the oil (maybe that clunk).
You had a pet tumble dryer? Cool!
I just love the references he keeps making of city blue💙💙
I found a friend of mine one of these for her first car. Automatic, small engine and reasonably practical. It was well maintained and several years down the line it's still running well.
Ticked every box for her.
Not my kind of car at all!
We always have the commercial for Sailun tyres, so definitely heard of it!
Lots of videos at the moment of cars i've had. The 2007 A150 auto in gold was only the 2nd new car I had, bought it as a family car, wasn't expecting much but it really was quite nice. The elevated driving position made it feel more like an SUV. Had it 3 years and changed it for a C63, bit different.
Only Matt gets me excited about an old a class
Can we have some "headlamps could do with a buff" T-shirts please!?
And “ a new set of plates will set it off”
My sister has 160d so I drove it plenty of times and I like it. Yes it is stupid slow, but it looks nice, has plenty of space, it is comfortable and so far it has been extremely reliable (has over 120 000 miles). Even the manual gearbox doesn't suck. Too bad about this car, bounce back next one, mate.
Love these videos were you lose or at best break even 🙈 as a small business owner myself people think your pulling cash from every hole available and don’t take in to consideration the losses we go through. Really insightful. Keep plugging away as I tell myself next month I will hit the big one lol. I am thinking about changing my career and becoming your mechanic he seems to be the only one who ever benefits here.
Exactly right
Very nice at the end. As already been stated, this generation looks far better then the new ones. As far as I see it, they degraded the car, as it was a little, cute and a bit awd Mercedes, but now it has noghting at all, it is just another car.
These are a hidden gems & if you get a good example - they are one to use as run around 👍
I like your videos because they are very informative I love cars as well and love your work
Thanks!
Matt's video's are very interesting.
Brilliant cars them A class's Matt, have sold loads in my time, the 1.5 and 1.7 petrol CVT's sell like hot cakes, especially the Avantgarde SE with self park 🤓so much so that I can't seem to get close to buying them at auction anymore even when I have customers waiting for them, must be the fast approaching Ulez no doubt. Keep grinding Matt 👍👍
I had a A class which I bought new when they first came out. I’ve never spent so much time at the dealers whilst i was being repaired.😢
Good little runner about in Spain
I have driven several of this type of A class and that driving position is one that i could never get used to. It coloured my view of the car it was that uncomfortable. On the other hand, my brother had one for years and absolutely loved it.
I think the driving position is one of the benefits of this car. It’s actually very high from inside
Saw you testing/filming that on sandhill 😂. 👌🏻
Good morning matt, hay now don't so down about it ,yes you over spent on it but you saved a nice car once again and someone will love it so well done. Ps the next one will be absolutely fantastic. Cheers Phil form Newark
Such a good and helpful video! How did you know the wheels weren't right straight away?!??!?!?!
Oh my days shut ya gob😭😭😭
Lol I have that on my road when I let people go, flash them a 1000 times and then they notice a month later. Haha. Good video. Nice colour
My dad has had Sailun's twice for his car, extremely good quality for the price even though they're unheard of
Got them on my 5 series. Very good for the money.
first one, I had one of those cars, I loved it. I now want another one. a petrol manual.
For info, the tiny little Mercedes booklet you found in the glovebox looks like the fusebox diagram. This should live in the battery/fusebox compartment under the drivers side floormat. The fuseholders have no markings on these so without the booklet you don't know which fuse is which or what power rating they should be.
👍
Love the Partridge reference 😂
Would love a video on the insights of a trader or how to get into the trade
I always like Matt's optimism...should be a healthy profit in it..😂
You've mentioned paying Autotrader over 5k £ a month before but I thought I misheard.... but you brought it up again.
Sounds pretty outrageous - could you expand on this in one of your next vids?
had this one in manual. Loved the car. Perfect for city driving and unbelievably stable and behaved on the highway even at max speed, which in my case was only around 180-190 km/h.
And the build qualitiy is amazing for such a car. Nothing sqeaks or rattles in mine.
Perfect for city = automatic
@@computerdealsyes agreed high quality
@@computerdealsnothing squeeks no sounds
Math you have forgotten to factor in the upholstery bill !
You are doing a great job with integrity, we appreciate your work and videos
Your mechanic is looking fwd to an early retirement thanks to you. They see you coming.
Another good video Matt 🚗🚙🚘👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏
W169. Made in Germany. Sandwich floor was for a fuel cell powered vehicle that was never put into production. 7 different engines available.
Personally I prefer a C169.
Hi Matt, recently bought a 10 year old mini countryman cooper S. 45K miles. Last 6 months it's been great. Ride is firm (aware you dislike that) but how comes you've not had one on the channel yet? I recommend!
9:56 I think that's the first aid kit there where the spare wheel/repair kit normally is.
Yes its an extender....very good
I love your dry humour Matt! In general avoid old Mercedes and BMW cars. They always costs a lot more than you expect. I would price it a bit higher, you can always explain to the potential buyer all the trouble you took to make it in good shape again, anyway that's why I would do.
I LIKE THAT LIL CAR..WHEELS LOOK GOOD ON IT
You do a great job in maintenance and care, therfore, i think you should ask for a higher price than the market
@7:38 is not a cup holder, you can see that directly in front of that. That panel slides forward and holds the Bluetooth gadget to connect to your phone
Quite well known, actually, the Sailun Atrezzo's. Halfords/National are quite big on them at the moment. They're round, rubbery, and have "tread", so they will function as tyres.
Never heard of them. Apparently they're made by a Chinese company called Mesnac. Seems to be cheaper alternatives to many of the tires offered here in the US.
Another great video. I have an a class with the same rip in the upholstery. Is your upholstery repairer local to Manchester?
Battery and fusebox lives under the driver's footwell, hence high feeling driving position, and the compartment often fills with water...
Was thinking of getting one of these for my son to learn to drive to drive in, but my other son talked me into getting an auto BMW E46 coupe. I like the aftermarket wheels. Have never seen those, but they look good.
I have a 2007 Avantgarde with all the toys including electric folding mirrors. It's proven itself to be a fantastic little car around town and is extremely economical being the 2ltr diesel with manual box. it was a lowly 82bhp so very gutless but it's been tuned now on a rolling road and has 137bhp which is a lot better.
Love the ‘I bought a cheap…’ videos 😊
my wife drives our A180 (20 years old)we had to have the the gear box ..gear works ---it's automatic re-furbished it was sent to Stutgart Germany and then came back and re-fited cost 3 grandm. the car is running like a gudden ..great car!
before you question ..I am not kidding it seriouly was taken out by the lads ,sent to germany and sent back and re-fitted
@@derek-pressI believe you man! Ours cost a small fortune to be fixed aswell. Factory defect
@@NicholasRiviera-Dr the car was given to us by my wife's father when he retired,he did not have it from new but it was low milage and he did very little mileage, when he gave it to us it was about 10 years old and I think it only had 22K on the clock,it is still in immaculate condition,it has been garaged all it's life, when the gearbox went ,(it would not change gear suddenly) ,we suspect it was because we had been towing a trailer full of wood, possibly the cause or it was just worn out,we had to make a decision, sell it as scrap, which would have been such a shame or get it repaired,so our local garage, , they are 3 good mechanics looked and said they can't fix it but they had searched online and found a company in Stuttgart who can, so the lads dismantled the gear box sent it and then refitted it , this was 2 years ago and fingers crossed she is still running a treat,I think the repair was the right decision
I like this used car dealer. Saving cars that are 90ish% ok from the scrap yard to drive again. Just do them a bit more cost conscious. Keep up the good work.
Just saw end of vis, good job selling 👍
Ha! Been waiting for you to use 'It's an extender!'. Figured it would be on your other channel.
😂
Should have been 'Aha!' above. Missed a trick there.
Well done Matt I'm sorting out this pale blue car
You did a great job of it .
Sometimes you win other times you loose but nevertheless Matt you are a Winner in life because you are a honest car dealer.
And they are few and far between .
Keep going on doing the best you can do
You are the best at what you do
Your video's are second to non they are gram full of humour good to watch
Your going have a good 2023 second half of this year .
Kevin from Radcliffe your favourite watcher of car video's
Thanks Kevin
Note my first comment! I had to do front and rear parking sensors on one a year ago, what a PITA.
