    There are actually not that many videos on Marine Reserves. Probably because most joining Marine Corps are going active.
    1. How long did it take you to go from say walking into the recruiting station to being done with MOS school? Did you have to take a long break after the boot camp before going to your MOS school?
    2. What is your take on joining Marine Reserves as someone in upper twenties? Maybe you think that another branch is better because the age cutoff is higher and your peers would be more mature?
    3. How did you balance your day job with the reserves live? How big of a toll did it take? Did you feel like it held back your career (last to get raises, promotions)?
    4. Did you ever have to change civilian jobs while in the reserves? If so did you disclose being in the reserves? Or maybe you have buddies who can talk about that?
    I'd really appreciate any answers on these questions as this info is hard to find.
    P.S: Three plates, wow dude!

      Hey man! I'm also a reservist in the Marines. I enlisted in December last year, I graduated boot camp in June and had the same 10 day leave as everyone else that was in my company before going to MCT. After MCT I went to MOS school in August and I finished and checked into my reserve unit in early November right before the ball. There's no issues joining in your upper twenties. Some of my closest friends in most school were 25, 27, 28, and 29. You won't feel out of place at all. I don't have any experience yet balancing school and work because I don't plan on attending classes until January. Every job that I've applied for so far, I've disclosed being in the reserves. So far my life is pretty normal pretty much the same as it was before I left but I've definitely grew a ton. Hopefully this helped. Good luck on whatever endeavor you decide to embark on!

      @@seanXsebastian Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. Gave me a good perspective on how long the process would take. I'd love to connect with you, or your older friends if you are open to answering more questions.

    Be careful with the reserve to active time carrying over.
    When I went from reserve to active duty they completely voided my time in the reserve, I was able to keep my rank, but time in service, and time in grade was restarted. This happened to many people I knew from my platoon, and company.

    Your video was really insightful. Right now I’m a Marine Poolee leaving for boot camp in January. I’m going to be a reservist and attend an nrotc college at the same time. My MOS will be 6174 uh-1n crew chief while enlisted. After commissioning as an officer I hope to be a cobra or fixed wing pilot. That’s my overall plan, but you always have to be prepared for the unexpected.

    So I’m a reservist (Army) now graduating high school early, does anything in high school effect the way you get ROTC scholarships? This COVID-19 stuff has made things really weird so I’m just wondering. Great video, this is the first thing I’ve seen of your channel and the quality is great.

    • @Crhunt3

      nothing about being a ranger is easy any route you take with be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life.

    • @rustedshackle678
      @rustedshackle678 5 років тому

      If you want to be a ranger, then just sign an option 40 contract and do it. The easy way out is always there. If you're not in it to win and get the tan beret, then you wont make it. I've seen guys with higher pt scores than me at rasp quit

    • @coraliscopuselaborat
      @coraliscopuselaborat 4 роки тому

      RASP 1 is easier to get a chance for as enlisted since you can get that as an entry contract (option 40). However, as an officer, which is what you will be after graduating from ROTC, getting a chance at RASP 2 is much harder since there are less officers in 75th RR than there are enlisted. So, if you want to be an officer in the 75th RR, then you need to be so squared away that you cannot even fathom the idea of failing even a little bit since there are less officers and much more enlisted. Its obviously doable as there are officers in the 75th RR, however, they got there by being some of the baddest people on the planet. Thats the caliber you need to strive for.
      Keep in mind that there are no 75th RR slots in the guard or reserve. It is only an active duty thing. Now, if you wanted to go Army SF and stay in the NG, you can. The 19th and 20th SFG offer that and Texas is one of the locations. So, you can be in the Texas NG, apply for SFRE, should you pass, you go to SFAS, do your thing, earn your beret, and do that until your contract is up. At that point, if you wanted to commission, you can still go to ROTC afterwards. BUT, you wouldn't commission into SF. You'd branch into whatever the Army needs and once you're Captain promotable, then you can apply for SFAS again. Yes, you would have to go through SFAS again. Hope this helps! You have options.

    • @coraliscopuselaborat
      @coraliscopuselaborat 4 роки тому

      you earn your GI Bill after serving for 3 years. After that, its yours regardless of how you want to use it. Going from Active to Guard or reserve? Cool, have at it. Enlisted to separated, to ROTC, to commission? Yup, same applies. Once that GI Bill is yours, thats it. You are golden and good to go. Same for earning the GI Bill from guard or reserve and then wanting to go Active. Once its yours....its yours

    You weren't enlisted. You were in the guard. Being a weekend warrior doesn't give you more experience or credibility to be an active duty officer.
