Love seeing sistas doing big things. I’m considering commissioning as an officer myself thru OCS. I’ve got a master’s degree, talked to the recruiter last week. Basically just have to get physically fit before I could sign up lol. Would be a major source of pride since my dad was a ranger in Vietnam.
Was enlisted, then CPT then resigned commish to go to 25M school!!!!!!!! I loved every bit of the Army!!!!!
I had a similar experience trying to join the military in Mississippi - but back in 06'
No one was recruiting except the Army and Marines, and I was not going to the Marines haha. I wanted to enlist in MI but the only units recruiting for Imagery Analyst were in Atlanta and Colorado Springs (wasn't happening as a Mississippi boy) - so I enlisted as a 92A so I could conduct Battle Assembly locally. Became an officer through ROTC and finally went MI in the USAR. Mobilized twice and assessed into the AGR program a few years back and its been great.

Hey I will go to the rotc and if I graduate I will become an officer so I want to see if I do need to take the ASVAB before or after I graduate I have my diploma of college or wtv or what are the step to do all right cause I been not doing good at the ASVAB and pp tell me that if I go to rotc and I graduate and become an officer I won’t not take the ASVAB so please let me know is that correct

I heard becoming an officer through ROTC is easier than OCS. In OCS there needs to be a slot for you which can be competitive. I’m 21 currently in the reserves 92Y Squad Leader, and am learning about the process. I’m pursuing my bachelors online at GCU needing 2 years left, but since I do school online I can’t do ROTC because I live in California and my school is in Arizona. I currently have a full time civilian job, drilling on the weekends, and a full time student too, what’s the easiest way to become a officer with my situation?

Do you plan on going to Grad school? If so, I would find a school that offers Rotc near you. I know at Ole Miss, we had a grad student in ROTC and it was pretty easy for her to manage.
As far as OCS, from experience, it is an easier process for Active Duty, however, you can still do OCS. Reach out to your unit, local recruiter and even Rotc at your school and let them know you’re trying to do OCS and see what additional guidance they provide you with.

Hey! I don’t think there’s a certain GPA requirement to get active duty. However, everything is based on the OML, so you do want to maintain a high GPA, volunteer, high APFT score, complete additional training offered (ranger school, airborne, etc).
Your senior PMS will pretty much write up your review for assessment board and you want his strong recommendation, so be involved.

I am wondering if I can have your opinion on my current situation. I enlisted in the Army National Guard in June 2023 as a 88N. I leave for basic training on October 30th. Before enlisting I had a bachelors degree in Political science and a minor in International Relations with a 3.97 gpa. However I didn’t know until after I signed my enlisted contract that I could become an officer with a Bachelors degree. Should I do Army BCT and AIT first and then pursue my masters in Cybersecurity while doing Army ROTC under the simultaneous membership program or should I try to get out of my enlisted contract and apply for Army OCS instead?.
Hey I’m interested in what you ended up doing? As a civilian I applied for OCS since I have my degree and my packet was approved and I was waiting for my board interview but the army apparently hit over 170% of the ocs application quota and would be a year wait before accepting new ones from civilians. They were only taking reserve or enlisted folks at this point. I decided might as well enlist as an E-4 and knock out basic and AIT and get experience at a unit during that year. I fully plan on applying again for ocs but I’m interested in what you chose to do.
I only have six months left in the inactive reserves in the army. Super excited to finally end my 8 year contract. It’s like prison. Muster here. Muster there and the army still gets in my business like where you work now? Super annoying
I am currently 24 years old, recently obtain my bachelors back in dec of 2021. I am conflicted on if i should go to graduate school and do rotc that way i already have my masters and get my phd funded vs going the ocs route or doing the reserves/rotc route . Any insight ?
Hi, I highly recommend going to Grad school and doing ROTC. It’s like knocking out two things at once in my opinion. I know my school wasn’t as hard on the cadets that were in Grad school because they were of course more busy than undergrad. In my opinion that route is easier and less competitive.

Does your time TIS as a prior enlisted counted towards your TIS for your Promotion from 0-1E to 0-2E?
No. I had 7 years as E before I commissioned. No one even knows "E" when working. The only difference is you get paid more at the same rank as everyone else. It had zero effect on promotion time. I actually kept it quiet, but I did have my combat patch so people knew I had been E.
I just graduated this past fall and was thinking of commissioning. Do you like being an MI Officer? That's my number 1 choice right now if I commission.

Yes you can! I did the same thing! It’s two completely different contracts.

@@diaviahnp2433 yes, you would be an Adjutant General Officer. I am a Military Intelligence Officer 35A
Active Duty and Reserves are a little different in this regard. AD you can switch your Area of Concentration (Officers do not have MOS) through a Voluntary Transfer Incentive Program (VTIP) or Branch Detail yourself (which will add an additional Active Duty service obligation).
In the Reserves, you just branch transfer - there is no additional service obligation. They'll typically require you to attend a Career Course again for the branch you're wanting to transition to, submit an administrative packet and viola... you're now have a different Area of Concentration.
The only thing to consider during Branch Transferring is how you compete amongst your peers for a board. For instance, if you were AG as a CPT (and completed BN S1 or was a Division Adjutant) and now transferred to MI - you will not be as competitive as your MI peers (you'll have to reestablish your performance based assessment in your new Branch - which typically takes a few years).
For Active Duty, most will Branch Detail to a new branch as soon as they make Captain or just before as a 1LT (attending the Captains Career Course of their new branch) - this way they have ample time to complete Key Development time (IAW DA PAM 600-3) and either a Deepening or Broadening assignment before they're boarded for MAJ (which is the make or break grade for many Active Duty Officers).
As prior enlisted in the corps. And currently in school. I know it’s a dumb question to ask (too each their own) but Is worth going officer in the army?
Hi, I definitely think it’s worth it becoming an Officer. Being able to experience both sides in my opinion is a plus. The relationship you will have with your Soldiers will be a lot different because you’re prior enlisted.
I thought SMP cadets had to remain reservists once they commission? Is that not true?
Not true at all
You'll be assessed your final year in college. Several things go into your overall assessment (grades, extra circulars, performance at your ROTC advanced camp, etc.). Your Professor of Military Science (senior ranking officer in your ROTC program) will notify you of your assessed service (AD or USAR) and your branch (IN, MI, AD, etc.) during your final year as a cadet - along with your service obligation (depending on of you accepted a scholarship, opted for branch detail, etc.). The day you commission, you'll sign a conditional release (ending your enlisted contract) then sign your DA 71 (Oath of Office) and receive your appointment letter to either AD or USAR (or National Guard) - then your officer career starts.

I was originally going ANG but things unfortunately didn’t work out but as soon as I went into the Army’s office they already had dates ready. All we had to do was paper work and I was gone with in 20 days. Now I’m struggling if I should drop a OCS packet. Enlisted isn’t striking my interest anymore , I’m currently active in korea
Hey! And girl yess, the Army so fast with it! Lol. How long have you been in? Have you ever considered warrant as well? But I definitely agree, just being on both sides (enlisted half of my military career, now officer) the enlisted side can lose your interest.. and it’s almost like you have to work even harder. @@shakearaaa subscribed!! And I’ve been in almost 2 years , I came in as a specialist , I’m really adamant on being a sgt 🥴 nobody likes being one from what I’ve seen , folks are miserable.
I would much rather prefer warrant but I was told you have to be E6 so I’m stuck on the enlisted side until then I just don’t think ima going to last for another contact as far as my career goals.
@@iambertyyyj3930 I recommend dropping your OCS packet if its something you really want to pursue. Being Active Duty, check with your garrison G1 as they'll typically conduct the OCS board quarterly (I've sat on a few myself). The interview process is typically very simple, there are stock questions that the board members (3 Officers) have to ask - but they have the flexibility to go off script and ask random questions if they want. My biggest concern with SPC/CPL being boarded is that they have no NCOERs for the board to really evaluate their past performance. But I'll be honest... I've recommended everyone that I've been on the panel for, except one; because all they talked about the whole interview was the increase in pay.

Is being an officer a ton of office politics? I work in a fast-paced corporate environment and would like to go to something that has less office politics and possibly less deadlines. I work at a mortgage company now, so it's lots of "go-go-go" and dealing with nasty title companies and rude customers who really probably can't afford the house they are buying anyways. Sometimes, I feel like it's too much pressure having to say things a certain way and get things done at a certain time that is often undefined. The only real deadline is the deadline before someone complains lol
