- Here we build a vacuum seeder from common items on the farm. For around $50 in new parts you can build a vacuum seeder and matching dibbler! (Vacuum not included in cost)
This has reduced my seeding time from 20 minutes a tray to 3 minutes, this is a real game changer on the farm and would recommend everyone to build one.

Farmer Keith, i must say that this is likely, lb for lb, the very best overall UA-cam video i have EVER seen. this is just brilliant! WELL done, and thanks so much for sharing. good luck and take care!
You are very welcome! Enjoy and spread the word
Great Job. Simple straightforward design. I think I can do it too!
Best thing ever. Still have not found a long lasting glue for the metal to aluminum joint. But a little tape is a quick fix
Looks great thanks for sharing, awesome tool, time saver!!
Best thing in the world

Genius. Nothing worse than trying seed tiny seeds into trays. I will try your idea.
Godsend!
Glue is the weak point
@@farmerkeith thanks for the update. i want to make my own very soon. do you think a gasket sealing glue or a type of o ring would help with this problem? and do you find that your design works with all size seeds or would you modify the design to make the top plate interchangeable?
Mr. Keith: what would i do if i wanted to plant smaller seeds, like something unpelleted? kale, cabbage, etc.? use a smaller drill bit? wicked-great idea, Keith, thanks!
belay that order, Soldier! lol, i read it in another reply, thanks!
Yup, smaller bit. My works with the small seeds but eats them sometimes
This is such a great tutorial. Thanks man. Any ideas for when multiple seeds are needed per hole?
Beets, onions, kohlrabi, multi plug lettuce or multiplug Brassica
@@farmerkeith have herbs like basil and parsley.
How much time would you say that you save per season by using the vacuum seeder rather than hand dropping them?
It would take me an hour hour for 5 flats, start to finish. Now 15 min. At a 20 wk season thats 15 hrs per 100 flats!
Where can I buy what you show at minute 10:37? I'm from Romania and I can't find it. A connection? Can you help me?
0.5mm-1.25mm twist on wire connectors. For splicing small low voltage wire
How did you manage to round the corners on the tin plate so perfectly?
A slow cut with quality tin snips.
@@farmerkeith what size hole saw did you use?
Awesome video! Where did you buy the aluminum sheet from?
Our local metal by the foot. I've also seen people build them out of plexiglass
@@farmerkeith thank you!
Im not sure what you grow, but have you every built a plate for petunia seeds?
It's the same process for any seed. Just make sure the hole you drill is not bigger than the seed our it will get sucked through.
Petunias might be tricky to find a drill bit small enough, but you *might* make it work by taping over the holes and then poking through the tape with a pin. That's what I plan to try this year..
Will this work with tomato, cucumber and pepper seeds?
Have not tried, but it should.
Some places sell seed in round pellets
@@farmerkeith Does it work with almost any seeds?
Thanks for the best content on UA-cam.
Dibbler or Dimpler???
Dibbler
Would you sell me one as it may not be in my skill set to build one?
I'm sorry, but I don't produce them to sell
@@farmerkeith I totally understand that I was hoping I couldn’t purchase one because I don’t know if I’m able to build this
