Battlefront III was originaly a PS3 and Xbox 360 (and probably PC) game. Maybe the Xbox 360, PS3 Version was to 99% complete. But this is the Wii Version. The Wii has the power of the GameCube and PS2. You couldn't simply port a Xbox 360 and PS3 game on Wii. Many Xbox 360 and PS3 games have Wii and PS2 Ports from different developer which are often different games. The FRD Founder says that they also working on a another Star Wars game which delayed the launch of Battlefront III. This were a reason why they wait with the release of the Xbox 360 and PS3, to finish the Wii Version (and maybe a PS2 Version)

It is insane how good this build looks and I am amazed that this was supposed to be for the Wii. I always expected the Wii version to look more like the never seen PS2 version or a more polished PSP version.
The 95% complete statement was regarding content - which is fairly accurate. This build is content complete and seems like a in development port of a near complete game. There are a lot of technical issues and bugs though and some of the content is incomplete still or has huge bugs.

This was actually reworked into a PSP game called Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. I played the hell out of it as a kid. The biggest feature was seamlessly transitioning between space, air, and ground combat. In the campaign, you play as one of two clones of a Jedi, starting with a level on, I think, Cato Neimoidia. There are hints that you are also force sensitive, as you learn how to do things like force jump. After Order 66, you join the rebels while the other clone stays with the Empire and becomes an Inquisitor or something like that. You follow the campaign through to the conclusion of the original trilogy, which I think concludes with a mission on Endor (or that might have been in Rogue Squadron, the other PSP Battlefront game). After Death Star II is destroyed, you become a Jedi Knight, having been taught by Luke, and one of your first missions as a Jedi takes place on Bespin. Eventually, you catch up to the other clone, with a level taking place on a lava planet that had a wrecked Star Destroyer on it. I believe that was the last level, and the one you killed the other clone on. Good times. Surprising how few people know that this is what happened to the game. I see lots of comments on other videos wondering where the story would go, as if it didn't happen.
God, this is amazing. I wonder if the final build will ever be released, if Free Radical was right about how far in development it was it probably wouldn't be too hard for modders to stitch a final product together.

It was supposed to have online multiplayer which we don't know how well it worked and played and this build has lots of bugs and crash issues according to former FRD developers.(One of them claimed that the game needed 6-9 months of extra development to be finished.)
@@DaraG-sn2njYeah my guess is if they had all the time and money in the world, the game might not have released until like 2010 or so.
Many supspect a Battlefront IV ir something else but maybe he means a Wii (and maybe PS2) port of Battlefront III which was developed as a different game.
This were a reason why they wait with the release of the Xbox 360 and PS3, to finish the Wii Version (and maybe a PS2 Version)
@@DaraG-sn2nj the hud in the down left 0:52 seems kinda unfinished, probably was gonna look better/changed maybe it just looks weird
Always love seeing footage of cancelled games, prototypes, and early builds. One of my favs is the prototype of Ico and how it was meant to be a PlayStation 1 title before deciding to develop it for the PS2. While very similar it had a different vibe from the actual game. Amazing work Free Radical Archive, this looks great
Now someone needs to leak the Rogue Squadron collection that was also on the Wii.
IIRC the RS collection is complete but cannot be released due to legalities. That to me is even worse than an unfinished BF3.
@@mobiusraptor7 Same reason why Twin Snakes hasn't come out outside the GameCube.
Never played Battlefront or any other Star Wars game but let it be known that anyone who's actually into gaming knows this is a huge deal for you guys. This is the equivalent of Lon Chaney diehards finally getting to see London After Midnight. Could not be more happy for this fanbase, and congrats to all involved in saving this high profile of a work from oblivion.
As someone who played Battlefront Elite Squadron DS as a kid religiously, seeing the Wii version of Battlefront 3 is absolutely surreal. I can't wait to try this version of the game when it is fixed up. If it had been released I know I would have played it even more than I played Star Wars: The Clone Wars Republic Heroes. As I played that game to get even an inkling of what I saw from people playing Battlefront 1 and 2 on youtube
I love how you went out of your way to recreate scenes from the old internal trailers we used to rewatch while dreaming of the potential this game had, and now we can play a version of that build and it’s peak
The cutscenes for this game look so well done. From cinematography to the animation/mocap and storyboarding, it just makes me want to see what the story was about even more.
God I might shed a tear, I’ve wanted this since I was 8 years old, I’m so thankful to you guys for being able to score this build, I hope somehow you can add native Xbox controller support cause that would literally just be the cherry on top. You guys have outdone yourselves, seriously, from the battlefront community, thank you.
Dude, this looks awesome for a Wii game!! Most developers wouldn't put this amount of work into a Nintendo console!!!
It’s crazy how still to this day, an almost 20 year old unfinished game can still shine brighter than most modern games. This has everything that real gamers want, and I’m glad to have been alive to witness this reveal. I feel bad for the people who didn’t get to go through this era of gaming, this was definitely a nostalgic trip and I thank you!🤘🏼
A cursed legacy, only remembered here on UA-cam. I am glad I got to play elite squadron growing up, it’s the closest to having bf3.
I like the last part were you recreate the trailer
This has been the most insane year for Free Radical fans ever.
Lets ggooo im so hyped where finally getting a (almost) complete version of battlefront 3
Battlefront 2 is was my first dip into online gameplay on the ps2 with voice chat of every caliber. What a special game. Crazy to think of what could have been with BF3
i really hope campaign will be playable, thats the most interesting thing for me in bf3.
This is still to this day my number one most anticipated game. This is gonna be epic
Merrrry Christmas! A true gift 4 dis season :’)
You’ve guys have made history, thank you.
I love how the last part of this video recreates the original trailer of the HD version.
This is definitely the most complete build we've seen of this game. So fascinating
Original Battlefront games were some of my earliest memories about Star Wars universe after the six films. I played these games with my sister and with other friends on pc, ps2 and later steam. I hope to one day be able to play some version of the third game even if it is a mod of 2. Thank you for sharing this one! Happy holidays to you people!
I want this game now more than ever after seeing this
So many childhood memories this game would have given us. I am so glad to finally see the developer's labors
Dude this is insane. I never thought i would see the day where Battlefront 3 would almost be complete. I didn't even know there was a wii version in development either and thought it was only going to be for the hd consoles.
yeah this is crazy dude, couldve done alot of DLC well not like how its turned out nowadays, but one cant really say
I'm not a big Star Wars fan but Battlefront 2 has always been 1 of my fave games of all time. So seeing this just makes me sad we never got it.
There was so much concept art but never expected something real
Holy hell, never thought I’d live to see the day a new close too completed version of BF3 would surface.
Perhaps in real gameplay there are more issues but looking at this video, I am far more willing to believe in the "95% complete" story that former FRD employees told.
Whats blowing my mind most about this is the fact that this was the wii version of the game and its still super impressive
I’m legit crying I’m so excited. These games were my childhood and I’ve always dreamed of playing the final build. THANK YOU I can’t wait
Amazing work and research. I can't believe they cancelled a game that was looking so promising!!!
Bro if you told childhood me that I just had to wait till 2024 to play battlefront 3 then i would've laughed at you for hours. Now... Here we are... Feels so surreal. I cant wait for this version to get polished up so i can finally step foot into my most anticipated childhood game! This is gonna be sick!
Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking! It still hurts seeing what was almost possible. I thank the archives for continuing to make these discoveries and preserving the legend that is Star Wars Battlefront III!
Now imagine we could add the textures from the xbox build to this one, we would probably finally have a complete version of BF3
I'd say give it a few months (at most)
Looks amazing, ground to space battles; maybe one day we'll get a finished official release and it has longevity
General kota was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
The return of the King.
Completely unrelated, but I just wanna say your pfp is adorable :P
Crazy that we have a build this close to what seems like a completed version. Can't wait to see if people are able to give it that final layer of polish.
It's so crazy they were attempting to have seamless ground to space like this on the Wii. Feels way to ambitious to have ever been achievable but they were sooo close!
Oh my god... this is actually a dream come true.
The work that Free Radical Archive has done over the years is amazing. Now with this build being found I can only assume things are gonna get better and better from here.
Amazing work Free Radical Archive!
❤
We we're robbed of the greatest sequel of all time..
This and the Rogue Squadron Wii Compilation still make me sad they never came out. This looks awesome❤
This is a dream coming true and nothing less. They did an awesome job.
I SWEAR this video made me cry... This is so beautiful
The amount of scale for a Wii game is insane. I think Xenoblade is the only other game that does something similar.
RIP to a real one. Great job putting this together. 🥺
3:01 saber characters not having their z rotation locked to camera direction is bizarre, maybe a Wii exclusive thing?
Makes me genuinely sad that Battlefront 3 never was, but happy that we at least got to see it.
Incredible work, keeping the dream alive. Cheers!
God, this is amazing. I wonder if the final build will ever be released, if Free Radical was right about how far in development it was it probably wouldn't be too hard for modders to stitch a final product together.
This still feels surreal. An absolute gem of a find this one.
NO FREAKING WAY. OH MY GOD! I'm immeasurably pleased with this
amazing job finding this guys
My Steam Deck is slowly becoming a portable archive for playing all these cancelled game builds over the last few years.
Have you tried this yet on Steamdeck? Was thinking of playing it on there but wasn't sure how it'd run/control.
would have been so addicted to this as a kid
I would've played this game so much on PS3 😭
@@morsecode980 paitence my comrad, in some years you will be playing some sort of bf3, it will be made now, all the cutscenes and stuff are out
i litteraly let my ps2 be on through the night on weekends and wake up and play bf II lol
i would have played the fuck out of this as a kid. everyone had a wii. what the fuck were they thinking?
This reminds of everything I love about Star Wars.
I was never much into wii. But I can't deny this game looks pretty incredible.I always find it odd to see games with such limitations on the hardware but it looks so good or fun.
Dear EA or Ubisoft or whoever owns the rights right now, this is ALL WE WANT! From this point with a good engine and an experienced team, this could be out in 6 months! I promise it would be a hit!
Someone gives me a way to play this in 1080p on a ps5, I will shell out 80 bucks and be a happy man.
@@brenster21 if someone found this fr must still have it somewhere, but EA/disney will be mad, and what would it be, bf III 2008 ver or something, (could work though) cause EA are probably gonna make bf III
Nowadays, games try to look as realistic as possible. It's crazy to know that we will never get games with these old graphics again. Especially no star wars game will ever look like the old Battlefronts again. Truly the end of an era
yea its like, well games are games, but now its so realistic when HD came
We were robbed of something truly incredible. That no effort has been made to finish this game in the last 16 years is unbelievable.
Imagine Star Wars battlefront 3 releasing and going up against call of duty world at war or modern warfare 2 that would’ve been crazy
This is what I wanted, not the generic FPS we got from Dice
To quote Vader
“This will be a day long remembered”
Free Radical Designs was absolutely cooking. Hopefully, whoever told them to get out of the kitchen has never been in a position of power again.
What a clutch thought these days of decent gameplay were gone
The story looks amazing
*This is a blank place holder sound* intensifies
"TaKIng fIrE!"
Damn, this isn't even a finished game and it looks better graphically than most stuff on the Wii. I'm not even bothered by graphics but this is so impressive!
5:31 thats all i ever wanted a shot like this in a starwars game
For a wii game, wow!!! This looks amazing!!
the amount of playable content is amazing
This actually looks quite good for a Wii game, I know obviously it’s unfinished and whatnot but it doesn’t look bad
