On the thought of menu designs, if Halo 3 ever gets a remaster or remake, this video shows me how great it'd look if the Halo 3 menu were to use an entire diorama of these levels, either before or after the excavation occurs, giving more life to the sight of Earth and what we're defending
They really dug into their inspiration of Ringworld---after all the fights and all the suffering and all the small scale victories, this entire area is glassed by our newfound allies, the Elites in order to protect everything on Earth that we don't see from the Flood, in a similar manner as the source material (The Ringworld Engineers).
@@Installation00 Yes, amazing, isn't it? I'm having trouble with Google's algorithms again. Any idea why my comment on the Ringworld Engineers was deleted?
He landed around Mount Kilimanjaro, which is roughly 173 miles away from Mombasa Island. So... yeah, not bad for an uncontrolled fall from space. I presume he ripped that piece of Truth's ship off somehow and waited until it was in Earth's atmosphere before jumping off. I always thought Halo 3 started off kinda odd.
I thought it was really cool on Tsavo Highway, being able to see parts of the collapsed space elevator. Without too much thought I assumed “damn that’s really tall”. Still is, but seeing how close everything is in this perspective makes it so much more realistic.
Even seeing parts of the elevator is insane detail. They really had an idea and ran with it. Ngl, I think 343 would fumble this heavy and we would get a story that is completely out of touch with the previous title.
I feel like some of them have to not be earth. High ground literally has these pterodactyl looking creatures on it (played modded maps where the modders brought them down to the surface. You can shoot and kill them)
iirc they wouldn't one of the major development difficulties with Reach was the decision to set every multiplayer map in campaign. in practice, that meant making the maps and then finding ways to shoehorn them into campaign the way i remember it being worded suggested that it was a new idea. halo 3's maps, then, might be inspired by campaign levels, as Ghost Town in particular is, but we'd only be able to speculate about their precise locations
I knew the rough geography of everything, especially because of all the voice lines in H3 & ODST, but seeing it layed out like this is fantastic! I never knew the portal was that close to New Mombasa!
New Mombasa was a quote “Mega-City”. Heavily implying that the urban sprawl covered hundreds, if not thousands of square kilometers. It’s likely that the vast majority of the city was atomized by the covenant fleet. Along with all the other settlements, lakes and rivers that surrounded it. We know that Mega-Cities in Halo are absolutely colossal in scale (see New Phoenix map layout for an example. It encompasses about seventy percent of the state of Arizona!). Many of the spires in New Mombasa appear to dwarf even the tallest buildings in the world today, such as the Burj Kalifa. We should also note that the Key Ship is thirteen kilometers tall and twelve kilometers wide. Now compare it to the portal, which makes the ship look almost microscopic in scale.
@crysisrevelation6132 That's a lot of information I wasn't aware of. Somehow the Earth lore for Halo ha passed me by. Also, I'm sorry, I can't read Mega City without thinking of Judge Dredd.

@cleanserofnoobs4162 there is a video on this channel called rzr at the farm Jake's driving. So I'm guessing that person is referring to some inside joke or something
Classic bungie's skyboxes and every level there are several lore bits to be found that can only be seen from one angle. Lots of games just put an image, LODs or weather conditioning up, Bungie always drew an illusion for you to get lost in and forget the skybox paintings and other particle effects once you focus on the game. It's also a testament of light weight at every corner to draw distance.
Very cool. This highlights how this massive area is became the single most important area in the series. So many things happen here. The fall of the space elevator, the excavation of the portal, the battles that took place in the surrounding areas. It'd be interesting to know just how much of this was glassed after the flood outbreak. We're told it was "half a continent", but I would imagine that was somewhat hyperbole. Regardless, the sheer scale of it all is awesome. Excellent work.
I never gave much thought to the physical layout of where all these campaign levels happened. This is a whole new perspective on geography and landscape for me, well done!
I've always wanted to see something like this, thank you so much for doing this, absolutely amazing especially attempting to map out how Halo 2 Mombasa fits with ODST If you're taking suggestions: >Adding Floodgate to this >Adding the Headlong/Breakneck MP map (I think District, Turf and Streets is a tall order) >Comparing Pillar of Autumn with The Maw >Attempting to map how Gravemind & High Charity levels from H2 fit into Cortana in H3
chances are that high charity won't fit into Cortana because Cortana was suppose to be the ship that crashes in floodgate. They reused its asset to make the level.
This is very cool, I would have included the geography from the reveal trailer which is the menu for Halo 3. So its in game. Can you combine Halo 2 delta Halo/Regret/Sacred icon/quarantine zone next? Or how about Halo 2 anniversary's old and new Mombasa closer up? Saber added a lot of implied connected details like the roads and stuff
The Details in this video are a very nice touch, for example you have that CSS Battle Cruiser flying by the EXACT moment it did in the Halo 3 campaign.
This is incredibly fucking cool, thank you for making this, it's enlightening to see the scale of everything, also because of ODST I was never quite sure of the scale of damage from Regret fleeing the city, but damn...
After all these years since around 2011-12 since I first played odst, the characters talked about the “slipspace crater” that the ccs cruisers were circling above in kikowani station, it confused me as I didn’t really get what they meant. I always assumed that the crater you see is the start of the hole being dig to unearth the ark portal. Never understood why it didn’t make sense in my mind the orientation of it compared to where kikowani station is on the map but now thanks to this video I finally understand that the crater is actually from the slipspace jump from regret’s ship and they just circled that area before moving on the the wider glassing circle to the west

Technically Crow's Nest is a base from the 1900s, in-universe. That means it's around 600 years old when we see it in Halo 3, and already old in our IRL timeline
Crazy to think most of the franchise takes place in this area, and how half of halo 3 is just walking around a big circle, then again it's Halo, you're always walking on circles, lol...and next that circle all of Halo 3 ODST and part of Halo 2 exists. Insane what perspective can do. Amazing video.
