- Here's my completed build of the High-Grade 1/144 scale Mega Shiki. I'm calling my slightly modified kit the Mega Shiki II! Thanks to Scott at SMS for sending me some paints to try out! I'm pretty pleased with the results!

Reminds me of an awesome custom Gastima I saw. It had a cloak, and a red arm underneath. Loved that look.

Pretty sure I've seen that before as well, possibly even featured it on an episode of Gunpla News ages ago? I'm definitely doing a red arm (Venom Snake) build sometime in the future

1) Not everyone watches every video produced on this channel. Delivery video's aren't exactly the go to source for information regarding works in progress.
2) The last Trash to Treasure video was about 6 months ago. It's been a long enough duration for inquiring viewers to ask for an update.
3) This video in question clearly features a custom modified kit. It's completely valid to ask about the Tristan because that was a previously established work in progress. It's a bit uncommon to start and finish a new custom kit while you already have one that is unfinished and drives much attention/viewership.
REDACTED No has claimed that custom work is easy, that's a strawman. Most people finish the projects they've started before working on a new one, hence the expectation that a WIP on the Tristan would have been uploaded prior to a new project being finished.

Hey Zach, i've seen a similar technique done by Adam Savage over on the Tested channel and he called it "Specular Highlighting". The way he did it was mask off squares or small sections of the model and spray it with a gloss finish. I realize your is all matte finish with some color-change paint underneath but i think the effect is the same.

Great work. I love the cool white from that touch of purple and the red leg is awesome. Your decal placement has come in leaps and bounds, definitely feeling that japanese influence of less is more but still quite a lot to take in.
If I am being hyper critical, I think it would have been cool to do the left arm in red as well, so you had a kind of tile pattern of red and white, but it may have caused some clashes without crossing over to the backpack, so probably more work than you wanted to do haha.

have you tried painting the inside of armor pieces like the shoulders, ankle guards, or underneath the skirt panels grey to match the frame? I think it gives it a nice, more real kinda look
Mega cheeky(subtitle voice translate)... using the red colour on one leg reminds me of the zaku high mobility test type
What PSI do you typically spray your paint and primer on?

the only thing i would have like to see is maybe some black or some of that dark blue on the red leg for some color separation
If you paint it gold and keep the red leg, it'll be like C-3PO and his 1 red arm.
This is awesome. Also I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but my first thought was... knock off Sinanju stien.
I have a minor critique, in that the paint job looks like it has so much care and attention put into it, but then the action base looks like it was hastily put together - that brass rod doesn't match the elegance of the kit build. I remember something similar with the Grimgerde you posted a while back. That said, your work is a million times better than anything I've ever done, so take me for whatever grain of salt I'm worth.

That's the spare leg it carries on its backpack, it's only good for like 80 km so he better replace it for an original one as quickly as possible, remember to always buy original car- Mobile suit parts!
The overall color scheme is nicely executed. It's too bad the visor isn't all that colorful (at least it doesn't show up well on camera). The red leg really draws attention; a major contrasting element in this build. I feel the base could've complimented that contrast if it had more organic shapes given that the kit itself is all boxy and geometric. Maybe a tad bit of weathering would've looked good as well but in the end, it's all good!
I wanted to add this: the bottom of the red foot could've been painted in a darker red. That's all the critics I have for this build. It really is a nice custom paint job.
Thanks! Yeah the visor is quite small and tucked up in there. It helps give the kit a mean look but it makes it hard to see

Not really related to your custom build but, does air compressor make loud noise when you turn them on? I never really used one before and I really want to start painting my kits using airbrush but people here in Japan are easily irritated to sound

How about the scope?
If you want good ideas for color combinations look a designer clothes. I think Nike also uses superb color combinations. If you want ideas for the modeling design I recommend you look at animals. Most modern day invention or designs start there.

I put mg seven swords parts on my mg xn raiser. And i proudly called it Full Armor 00 Gundam...custom... yeah im a fucking noob..
It's 1/5th times faster than a regular mega shiki, it's because the red paint adds a lot of speed, this is a very much inside joke
