- 🔶🔸 Welcome to Rock Solid Rig! 🔸🔶
Replacing ball joints is a drag and we wanted to find a better solution for our jeep so we teamed up with American Iron Off-Road to test the stability of their ball joint delete and find out if it can withstand the challenges we throw at it. This video shows you the install of the ball joints, if you want to see a long term review and follow up then make sure you turn on the notification bell 🛎 so you never miss a release! If you like what we are doing make sure you click the like button 👍 and let us know if you have any questions in the comments down below!!
**Torque Specs for the delete kit should be:**
1. Torque the BOTTOM OF THE TOP lock nut to 40 foot pounds (the gold part)
2. Tighten TOP OF THE BOTTOM nut (the purple part) until it is snug against the stud, about 1/16th of an inch of thread should be seen (as per the instructions).
3. Torque the BOTTOM LOCK NUT to 50 foot pounds.
4. Repeat step 1, but torque it down to 50 foot pounds.
5. Repeat step 3, but torque it down to 85 foot pounds.

Thanks for this. I didn't know about these, but I've broken axles on my XJ and Ram 1500 and had the knuckles fall off. This looks like a great solution.
Love you guys did a video. And glad I'm not the only who tries 50 different cups, lol. Loving mine so far. Felt an immediate difference in ride
Yeah we did the passenger side first so we'd know the best cup combo, then moved to the drivers side and completely forgot what we had just done lmao.
@@RockSolidRig 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Right! That's how it always goes for me. Then I'm runnin passenger to driver side comparing stuff. It never fails
I'm living mine though. Front end feels so solid!!!
I'm running Duratrash Gold upper and lower ball joints from AutoZone. They have unlimited mile lifetime guarantee, all of their steering and suspension components do actually. In all my experiences, if you go with Duratrash Gold they're better than OE. My buddy's toy taco is lifted so much that if he gets any kind of extreme droop he'll drop the CV outta the cup, blown out 4 AutoZone CV Axles and gets a free one every time
Dude I’m glad I came across this. 🎉
Nice instruction Gents. Great looking product.
Love you guys. Outstanding ✋👍
Thank you very much!!
Great video!! I like how simple they are. I watched the follow up video and I will be investing in these. Granted I'm not running anything huge on my XJ but still, anything is better than a ball joint.
I need this!!!👍🏼🏁
Love the crossbar shirt, lol only a 20 min drive from my house. Def going to be checking into these for my WJ
We love Crossbar, that's not a bad drive at all for some good wheeling.
Great video man
Thank you!
Just waiting for my ball joints to wear out before I give these a shot...solid vid 🤙
At around 4 minute mark, that was an internal reciting of "righty tighty, lefty loosey"
3:50 actually. I laughed
@@jclee0314 I thought the exact same thing lmao, loved it haha
I've had situations where I've had to tighten a bolt or nut slightly to get it to bust free to loosen, I thought that is what was going on here.
@@EvrttGrn that absolutely was not the case. They’re 100% correct.... I was totally going the wrong way with it and caught myself lol
Me too!!
Love the design of these. Been seeing them on FB for awhile. My biggest concern is how well the o-ring can keep water/mud out. Note: JK ball joints are different top to bottom. Top ball joints don’t move around on an axis like the bottom. Keep us posted on your test results for sure.
That was a concern for us as well, I know it won't be watertight but with the washers and o-rings and how they fit and torque down I think it'll be fine. Definitely no chunky mud can get in. We plan on doing a follow up at the beginning of May and then again after the first 10k. The warranty he offers on these also gave me some piece of mind. He's been great to deal with and watching the way he's handled revisions and changes to the product and shipped new parts to existing customers just so they aren't left behind when he makes a change has been awesome to see. A+ customer service, that's for damn sure and that's not an easy thing to come by these days.
@@RockSolidRig awesome, looking forward to the update videos.
Love my Tiger Tools ball joint and ujoint tools. Make this job super fast. Autozone Moog ball joints are lifetime warrenty as well as axles from autozone. Warrentied out 6 balljoint and 3 sets of cv axles no questions asked. Hate the work though, might have to try these if they make em for dana 50-60
You guys are too clean.
I can get greasy I guess....
I have these. they are amazing!
Awesome, how many miles do you have on them?
@@RockSolidRig over 10k. I don't daily my jeep but I was in the pre order for these kits. I wheel my Jeep on 37s and ball joints are least of my concern with these installed
@@nicholasbaldwin1674 we love them so far, beat on them at hidden falls last weekend (videos coming soon) and we'll be at wolf caves in a little over a week with mischief maker to see what trouble we can get into.
@@RockSolidRig look forward to the videos. Take care and keep it rubber side down ;)
For disconnecting the drag link from th knuckle rather than hitting the nut on the joint hit the knuckle hard right where the link connects it should pop free.
Also not sure if you have the adapters but OTC (7894) makes a specific one to line up with the balljoint, a lot of jeeps end up needing knurled balljoints as pushing them out wrong wallows the hole.
Really love this, but you had mentioned warranty for ball joints... I put Alloy USA HD ball joints on my JKU and they came with a 2 year warranty. After a year a couple joints needed replacing, I sent them a little video of the play, and they sent me 4 new ones. Was easy to deal with. Great video guys.
That's awesome to hear, I didn't do a whole lot of research into everybody else's warranty as much as I should have. That's a downfall on my part.
@@RockSolidRig I'm definitely going to go with the delete kit next time. They look bad ass. Any maintenance needed on them?
@@davemurray8421 they are no maintenance, nothing to grease. When the bearings need replaced you pull the c clips out, pull the bearing, place the new one and replace the c clips. I'm glad I'll never be pressing ball joints in and out again lol.
@@RockSolidRig ok now I'm jealous!! Looking forward to seeing how they perform offroad.
@@RockSolidRig
Not a big deal for me. I replace all ball joints on my Jeep LJ every 3 to 5 years. Have tools, takes one day, doing it for fun alone on the driveway drinking beer.
Like the idea of no ball joints. Interested in how those hold up. Will keep in tune to see.
We'll be doing a follow up sometime in early May after our next big wheeling trip and then again after about 10,000 miles or so.
Your stuck now with ONLY that product.
@@tanner882 we can still change the ball joints....they aren't permanent. We are stuck with nothing... However, this is what we wanted.
@@RockSolidRig do they make eliminates for TJ Ball Joints?
@@CJLane-62 absolutely do, contact Josh at American Iron and let him know we sent you. He's got great customer service.
Got mine ordered. Thanks for the help Josh. See you guys at Hidden Falls.
Awesome, can't wait.

Righty tighty, lefty loosey
Gotta love it using a torque wrench for a breaker bar There is always a right tool for the job
Absolutely agree, we didn't have the breaker bar at the house and needed to get it done. We have 3 torque wrenches. No problem sacrificing the cheapest/oldest.
I meant no disrespect guys just remember all the old timers telling me that I enjoy the video a lot
@@kyleoneal8643 I understand completely, if my dad saw the video he'd be all over me lol
Oh no, they were abusing your tools? I thought it was their tools.
For the ball joints that share the load between them, all they are mostly doing is either the top ball joint shaft is slightly shorter or the lower ball joint is slightly longer! Please take note that this is only like a half of a millimeter or less in difference but this offset is just enough to allow the top ball joint to support more weight!
Reinstall the bottom one 1st. Makes it a bit more easy.
Man I looked them up and they are high as a cats back but I will have them soon on my tj. 35s are hard on ball joints 😂 going to area 252 in Ky this weekend
Moog lifetime warranty no questions asked . that upper ball joint is spring loaded .
Moog ball joints lifetime warranty. I have pretty good luck with them
In the super duty moog joint are actually stronger and last longer
I need those
Everybody needs these!! I'll never go back to a traditional ball joint.
I got a danna 44 in my dodge
Love the idea behind these, but worried there wont be enough clearance for my RCV shafts. Great vid though!
There is room for the RCVs. He has guys running a bunch of different setups. You should shoot him a message, great customer service.
There’s room. I run them with RCVs in a JK Rubicon front housing. It’s sleeved, too.
@@subculturenm Thank you for the info! I just knew that it was already super tight in there. I had to shave the tip of my grease gun down just to be able to sit down on the grease zerk to lube the lower ball joint.
130k Views, nice
I wanna do this to my new bronko😅
Hmm I have to do my f450 soon.
Do they make them for other applications like Cadillac escalade 2008
Love crossbar we should meet up and wheel together! I am from the darkside tho we dont ride jeeps only toyotas
We don’t discriminate! We have wheeled with several different types of rigs! That’s why our channel isn’t rock solid Jeep but rock solid rig :D
Супер. Где купить такие шаровые опоры, чтобы они подошли на WJ ?
I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. What are the benefits of going this route compared to purchasing something from Dynatrac or Rare parts for ball joints?
They are similar to the dynatrac in the sense they are rebuildable. That's the route we were originally going, but after seeing these and the price for then we changed our mind.
Are the deletes made for Land Rover discovery 2?
How long would those last if someone got curious and put them in a daily driver? Seems more sturdy than a old one
This is our daily driver and the original prototype that was made is installed on a daily driver and has well over 30k miles on them at this point.
Can I get this for my dodge?
Great video. How far did you have to break things down to check the torque after the 100 miles or so recommended? Can you get in there by just pulling the wheels ? Thanks.
Actually didn't break it down at all, just used a crows foot on the torque wrench
How will they hold up in dirt and mud without a boot and grease fitting to pump dirt out?
Thanks for the question! We are doing a short term review on them later in July talking about how they have done in various terrain such as rock crawling, overlanding, mudding, creek crossing etc.
Did I miss the caster- camber session?
Wondering what's your setup for your brace shaft / track bar
We are running the core 4x4 track bar, you can use code RoclSolidRig for a discount with them. I'm not certain what you mean by "brace shaft"
@@RockSolidRig Ill send a picture via instagram
Damn y'all beat the crap outta Pittsburgh ratchet wrench son! LOL nice job thanks for the info on deletes.
Also just wondering because does that hinder you getting a good alignment or does it make a difference
Won't make any difference with the alignment being done and staying true.
Any vids after the install?
We'll be doing a follow up after we get back from our next trip, we leave early next week.
Do you know if they make the delete’s for the 99-04 grand Cherokee’s? I’m tired of replacing mine every year.
This might be what you’re looking for :) hope it helps! We love our set. americanironoffroad.com/products/jeep-xj-delete-system
Going to hot springs memorial weekend how bout you guys it'll be our first time there
I'm not sure if we have any plans for Memorial day at this point, we'll be in Arkansas earlier in May running through the Ozarks.
I plan on going Memorial Day also, from Louisiana! It’ll be my first actual trail. Plan on doing the badge of honor trails. Would love to meet the rock solid rig crew
Hey guys check if your Pittsburgh jack stands are under recall. I had one of those slip on me. No harm done but I did need to change boxers.
That guy sounds like burl Ives. Have a holly jolly Christmas.
I'm guessing you're talking about Kory? The guy wrenching most of the time lol
No, the guy talking. You should be a movie star.
@@leealbert8293 haha if only, my voice runs people off almost as quickly as my face!! That's why I grew the beard lol
My wife said you should be in Hollywood.
Looks like you could have left the bearing in the freezer over night and heated the knuckle with a torch. Would like to see how easy they would go in that way.
We'll be installing a set on my buddies jeep in the future and we'll definitely be trying that.
thats the way to do it, hands down
The 2nd gen ram could use these......D60 available?
Yep, go check out the website or Facebook group we have in the description. Send Josh, the owner, a message and he'll chat with you about everything and get you taken care of. Tell him rock solid rig sent you.
Do they make noise . I've heard a few people say that
I haven't heard ours make a noise at all.
If those are the Barbour freight jack stands take them back. They have a recall.
As soon as that recall came out we checked them and they aren't the models they recalled. They have squared off notches and not rounded. Thank you very much for the concern.
Why did you put knurled in the top if this is the first time they've been replaced? They are usually only used if the old joints are loose in the knuckle. It looks to me like they were tight coming out.
They were definitely tight coming out, the deletes are designed to have that texture so anybody can use them regardless if they've had knurled ball joints or not. Once the cups are pressed in you never have to press them back out, to rebuild them you pull the nuts and bolts and remove c-clips, pull the old spherical bearing and put the new ones in. Put everything back together and you're good to go.
@@RockSolidRig thanks for the video, it was in my recomended list. I just put in Teraflex joints and never heard of these before. I'm running 37x13.5's and my 2 door JK is mostly street driven so I guess I'll see how well they hold up. These are a definite option in the future.
will a RCV axles shaft clear that lower inner nut?
Absolutely will, you can message the owner, Josh Dodsworth, on Facebook and he'll tell you all about it.
how do you grease them?
They don't have to be greased.
Is this available for s10s ?
Unfortunately no, dana 30/44, dana 60, ford superduty and don't aam axles are all they have them for at this point I believe.
The top ball joint isn't a ball at all. It's a "follower" joint. Even brand new it will slide up and down freely. It only controls axial play. The lower ball joint takes the load of the vehicle weight.
I'd be curious on how these would last in the North with all the salt and snow.
Are they greaseable or sealed bearing?
No maintenance, it's a spherical bearing inside the cup. It has o rings on both sides with a washer over them and then the nut torqued down.
I was wondering the same thing. Im in Minnesota and we salt roads just for the sake of salting the road. Only one way to find out
I am also a little surprised there was no grease involved
@@jerrywhalen2100 PTFE lined spherical bearing. The PTFE (Teflon) acts as the "lubricant" so to speak.
Moog balljoints have warranty. Can and can't be good, just like any part. BUT I do like these new style joints cause they seem they would hold up better, steer better, cheaper fix cost.
That's part of the reason I went with them. As I said, it was between these and dynatrac because I wanted something that could be rebuilt.
Love it. Good work guys!
@@garnettwhite5523 thank you very much
so you replaced a ball joint and a sliding stud with two more open ball joints. i'm missing the benefit
Okay I thought when you did a delete kit on them that's it" you don't have to jack with them anymore" if they wear out just like the regular ball joints then what's the point?
They've held up better than any ball joints we've run so far and the plus side is when they do need replaced you aren't pressing old ones out and new ones in. You just pull the c-clips and replace the bearings themselves, which are 25 bucks each. So only 100 bucks and much easier.
@@RockSolidRig awesome sounds like a good deal but I just recently installed a year ago teraflex adjustable ball joints so I guess if and when these two wear out this is probably the way I'll go with your delete kit thanks for the detailed video and info, following you guys 👍
That bottom delete looks adjustable. Is it?
No they aren't adjustable
Never understood why solid axles used ball joints when they only need to rotate across one plane
Most likely has to do with availability and cost.
I say keep them ball joints. It’s an easy up sell and keeps my lights on. LOL.
old cars did not they had a king pin
I didn't quite get it.
Maybe you guys can come swap out the ball joints on my 1989 F150 and film it again.
Haha, ball joints are super fun!!
Teraflex and Synergy make a ball joint with a lifetime warranty however they are very expensive
Yep, I've since found that out as well. My issue with that is still needing to eventually press those out and press the new ones in after dealing with the warranty process.
Dynatrac has one now that can be rebuilt by removing 2 screws but it’s still $150 for the rebuild kit but you won’t have to take the ball joint out. I’m having a difficult time deciding on what to get. Synergy has one that can be tightened up if it is worn out and could be the last one you’ll need but they are always out of stock.
I like to heat it up and it will slide in and out really easily.
4:30 ouch
Just a thumb...those aren't that important right? Lol
You do any wheeling at uwharrie in NC?
We haven't been out that way yet, it's definitely on our list of places to hit. You wheel there often?
@@RockSolidRig yeh only place I've ever been able to go it about 45 min from where I live. It is nice they have something there for everyone. I see everything from a stock Lexus to buggys
I'm using it for a month now and started to get squeaking noise when turning, anyone faced that?
Otc makes a adapter just for Jeep ball joints, fyi Moog, AC Delco, Mevotech all have lifetime warranty.
Doesnt necessarily mean its a solid part, it means they will give you another when its shot out, used to work at oreillys, all your buying is a warranty with moog
you dont use a torque wrench as a breaker bar
You are very correct, had to use what we had on hand though. Couldn't get my impact on there. We have multiple torque wrenches.
Karenberly
@@michaelrasmussen426 Disagree. Putting a jacket on a person for making a totally valid point just makes you the " look at me everybody, I use internet slang" dolt.
Just saying my thoughts loud... It sounds interesting, looks solid, but with the price of $475 for a set I can do replacements of Dana Spicers every 2 to 4 years 4 times. And only after 8 years in worst case scenario I reach the moment when I need to pay for the incerts replacement. Otherwise this sum might last for 12-16 years.
The spicer ball joints that came stock in our dana 44 were bad within 6 months. Same for a buddy of ours. We don't want to be changing ball joints that often. Everybody is different and has different use scenario for their jeep. This is just what we found that we thinks will work best for us. We have so many trips and the cutting out unnecessary maintenance is important to us.
@@RockSolidRig
That's sad to hear. I use only Spicers and was very happy with its quality. My Jeep is my daily driven car, and I do 25-30.000 miles per year.
Do they make those for a 96 XJ
They should be the same as the JK/TJ deletes, message Josh at American Iron and he'll get you sorted out.
I was thinking about these but no contact info a their website and videos only on fakebook, which I don’t have, I am hesitant. I have a brand new un- installed currie axle and don’t want or need knurled ball joints. So I need to contact these guys but can’t!!!

I haven't killed them yet but the top end NAPA ball joints have lifetime warranty... we shall see XJ Dana 30 and 35s I am not expecting them to last forever
They were also Federal Mogul made in America joints
Do these fix camber issues?
For the jeep dana 30/44? Or for the super duty ford etc? There are some he posted about not long ago that he mentioned camber correction.
@@RockSolidRig For the jeep dana 44
Any update yet?
We had a small update video about 3 months after install. Up to this point we still love them. We've abused the hell out of them and have had zero issues. They are just as torqued as the day we checked them and there's no play in them and steering still feels tight and very responsive. Overall very glad we made this upgrade and actually have a tow pig now that we'll be doing the same upgrade on at some point in the future.
Hes using the torque wrench as a breaker bar? Whaaaaat?
We have multiple torque wrenches, this was the old one and the breaker bar we had available wasn't big enough.
What kind of shoes are does green ones he’s wearing with back wards hat
I'll have to ask him and find out.
They are Nike Metcon 2 in legion green
Awesome thank you ! Like the Channel

Give these a shot, they'll change your mind.
Don't no anyone around me running a ball joint delete so I don't want to spend a crap ton to not be happy I'm rough on my XJ
@@smashingbass7015 they run them in tons of rigs at king of the hammers. We have beat on ours and they're like new. They're worth it instead of replacing moog ball joints every month.
for 500 bucks I think I will wait tell I see them on a rig not taking a chance at this price I will spend 60 to do all 4 not saying there not worth it but not everyone can afford that much with the way prices are atm
Do they get greased or anything or no?
No greasing, only maintenance is rebuilding by replacing the spherical bearing when it's necessary. There are some out there at this point that have well over 30k miles on them and haven't needed replaced.
You don't mention any thinng about caster or camber how tell that all set
Your caster is set by having adjustable control arms, there's no real adjustment for camber without using camber bolts or a few other methods not really necessary.
Looks more like what a modern kingpin should look like. Now to convince Jeep, Dodge or Ford to use them from the factory.
The Moog ball joints gloat about a lifetime warranty.
It's too bad they're garbage and they can take the warranty and shove it.
Yeah I keep hearing about their lifetime warranty but I'd rather not have to press ball joints every 3 months because they can't handle what we throw at them.
They don't even last with "normal" use. When the cheapo o'reilly house brand stuff lasts longer, it is time to pull the plug.
Purchased my set last night. About how many miles do you have on them now? How are they holding up?
Original set had tens of thousands, I wanna say just almost 30. They were great, we recently swapped them for the new generation he came out with. We'll be doing a video on those in the future. I'll never go back to regular balljoints and when the balljoints in our f250 wear out it'll be getting deletes as well.
@@RockSolidRig can i asked why you swapped them out? Was it just to get newer style joint, or were they actually wore out?
@@joerouth6255 nothing wrong or worn out, I just wanted to see how the new generation was different and get a video done on them.
@@RockSolidRig do you know what the differences are between the first and second generation bearings
@@joerouth6255 sorry, I didn't get a notification of this comment. The main difference is in the bottom assembly. It's made so the nut and stud sit more recessed allowing for better clearance of the u-joint. This allows for those running RCV shafts to not have clearance issues. There are some other minor changes in coating used on the parts as well. They changed up the instructions and assembly process to be more....user friendly. By that I mean really dumbed it down so those that keep messing up installs have no excuse to blame the instructions hahaha. If you have any questions on install don't hesitate to reach out, either here or on our Facebook page/group.
Do those work with rcv axles?
Yes they do, if you check out the Facebook group we have in the description you can message the owner. His name is Josh and he's a wealth of knowledge and has had many customers running RCV or modified setups that he's worked with to make sure everything is clearanced properly etc.

Autozone ball joints has life time warranty. They last me about every 3 years. But just take them out go get new ones no cost or question.
Yeah I keep hearing that, but the spicer ball joints lasted us less than a year...I'm not pressing old out and new in every 6-10 months. Bought these once and I'll never have to press ball joints again. To each their own.
@@RockSolidRig so you just have pull the bearings out and put new ones in to rebuild Im guessing? And no more using the ball joints press. That is very cool.
