Musically this is an upbeat song, subject wise it's serious.

Amalee is just so good at conveying Hoshino Ai's narrative voice, that charismatic unabashed confidence that almost borders on aggressiveness is written so well into the lyrics!! And also the way that there is this kind of wavering vulnerability in the softer tonal shifts as if it walks the line between Ai's ingrained professionalism and expressing her feelings in words is just GREAT!! I havent seen any other lyrics before that have really analysed the character behaviour soo well :DDD
It's very interesting looking for the differences between the official english lyrics and this version. You'll note Amalee has taken a lot of liberties, but in my opinion it makes the song flow so much better than the official translation.

Through many English covers, this is definitely somewhere at the top in regards for lyrics. I like the occasional direct usage of the official English lyrics, like with _"I'm in love with you", my career is built on such a lie._ Great cover as usual.
The official English lyrics suck and it’s undeniable. However, that’s because it focuses on sounding the most like the Japanese version and it works. But honestly? I like this better
@@BananaRamaa Personally I wouldn't say the official ones suck, but you can definitely tell they're made by people who aren't super well-versed in English grammar (specifically with syllables). I have noticed Japanese people often disregard syllables and stresses in their music a lot, where the same word can be pronounced differently or they add and remove syllables from words to be able to fit them neatly in their songs (they also rarely do rhymes, fun fact). This seemingly works fine for Japanese, but since English is a bit more strict with syllable stresses and how things are "meant" to be pronounced, it can often sound unnatural if you only base a song's lyrics around syllables alone, with no regard for stress. I would actually say they did a decent job with it, but there were definitely many parts where they didn't. Ikura's _pronunciation_ of words was largely on point though. Also yes, their attempts to make the translated words sound phonetically similar to the original Japanese lyrics probably did make it harder to make the English sound natural, as cool of a concept as it was for them to do that. I feel like this AmaLee cover essentially just took the official English lyrics and changed them up enough to make it all sound more natural, therefore leaving in those certain parts where the syllable stresses sounded natural enough. Of course some personal spins were put here and there too.

AmaLee's english covers are just god tier. On top of how good her voice is, the fact that she can make the lyrics match the melody of the original, do it in such a way that makes sense in english and is just as expressive, still has rhymes, aaaand still capture the meaning of the original, I really can't help but be in awe with her level of translation. Seriously, try to listen to a piano cover while reading the lyrics of AmaLee's cover. IT MATCHES AS IF THE SONG WAS ORIGINALLY IN ENGLISH!!

I know that Yaosobi did an English version already but this is an English cover by a native speaker and musical talent in her own right, AmaLee, and while the translation may be more of a gloss, it captures the SPIRIT of the original even better....the English lyrics here capture it more precisely.

@@redlotus1353 Wydm no translation is needed? When trying to match the song with the beat/rhythm it needs to work or at least give a similar vibe. Words can be interpreted in other ways and more specific way of calling things with terms that CAN mean the same but can give a different vibe/meaning to it when said in a certain way. Its like if American jokes were translated to Japanese, you think Japanese people would understand the joke from American humor just because it was translated the SAME EXACT way? No it doesn't. That's why she tweaked the lyrics for more so of her style but still giving the song the IDOL point of the feeling when you listen to the Japanese one. A good example of trying to Translate Japanese to English but forn those that are Western English speakers saying the words which she sings "acting like she's the shit" which if you were to translate this back to Japanese this would not translate well if its WORD for WORD from their understanding.

I really like the piano in this song, it plays as though it’s a back up singer. It doesn’t just follow Amalee but also sings the song itself in it’s own style. The piano sounds like it’s alive and i believe it adds something special to the parts of the song in which the piano is more prominent. (Sorry if I sound like a nerd lol)
This is an INCREDIBLE English interpretation! I always think the best way to translate a song is not necessarily the exact translation, but to preserve the meaning. And you nailed it! The more you watch the show, read the manga, and learn about this song, the more you realize Yoasobi made the perfect opening for Oshi No Ko.

She is genuinely an singing genius. Idol is a very difficult song to translate. Yoasobi has an English version, but naturally some of the lines may come across as dry opposed to the original because English is not their first language and Japanese is so polar to it. But AmaLee has done a wonderful carrying out a proper English rendition.

I had to listen to the original English version and the Juby Phonic version I had already for comparison to all three including this one. Ama definitely puts emotion into the singing with hers to really emulate how Ai feels with her idol life and real life up until her last breath; Juby puts some emotion in, but in a way that I believe respects the source material by making it subtle; Yoasobi keeps it the same to sound perfectly identical to the Japanese version as it's not uncommon for the singers to do that, plus it gives room for cover artists to put their own spices into the mix. The song is still a great song for Oshi No Ko and I can't wait until I can read the third volume on my Fire!
I think your adaption of this in English really captures the essence of the original song so well. Yaosobi's original Japanese version is so good, but their English translation doesn't fit very well. The lyrics are just a message from Ai to not only Ruby and Aqua but to all of her fans because she never knew what love was like until seconds before her death. The song is like her life, lying all throughout but then at the end, Ai finally realises what love was and said it truthfully to her kids one last time before she died.

I didn’t really understand what the song meant before I read the manga (only book 1) But the verses about how she didn’t understand love makes much more sense after reading. I won’t say anything else as to not spoil it to anyone, but I recommend reading the mangas and watching the anime. AmaLee’s voice truly matches the character’s personality and she sings beautifully with a lot of emotion. 👍
Really wanted Amalee to voice as Ai as she has a similar personality to Marin Kitagawa whom Amalee brought out the best out of her character/personailty. Even from this cover you could tell Amalee would've been the perfect match for Ai.

Amalee is just so good at conveying Hoshino Ai's narrative voice, that charismatic unabashed confidence that almost borders on aggressiveness is written so well into the lyrics!!
And also the way that there is this kind of wavering vulnerability in the softer tonal shifts as if it walks the line between Ai's ingrained professionalism and expressing her feelings in words is just GREAT!! It's very interesting looking for the differences between the official english lyrics and this version.
You'll note Amalee has taken a lot of liberties, but in my opinion it makes the song flow so much better than the official translation.

Through many English covers, this is definitely somewhere at the top in regards for lyrics. I like the occasional direct usage of the official English lyrics, like with _"I'm in love with you", my career is built on such a lie._ Great cover as usual.

@@BananaRamaa Personally I wouldn't say the official ones suck, but you can definitely tell they're made by people who aren't super well-versed in English grammar (specifically with syllables). I have noticed Japanese people often disregard syllables and stresses in their music a lot, where the same word can be pronounced differently or they add and remove syllables from words to be able to fit them neatly in their songs (they also rarely do rhymes, fun fact).
This seemingly works fine for Japanese, but since English is a bit more strict with syllable stresses and how things are "meant" to be pronounced, it can often sound unnatural if you only base a song's lyrics around syllables alone, with no regard for stress. I would actually say they did a decent job with it, but there were definitely many parts where they didn't. Ikura's _pronunciation_ of words was largely on point though.
Also yes, their attempts to make the translated words sound phonetically similar to the original Japanese lyrics probably did make it harder to make the English sound natural, as cool of a concept as it was for them to do that.
I feel like this AmaLee cover essentially just took the official English lyrics and changed them up enough to make it all sound more natural, therefore leaving in those certain parts where the syllable stresses sounded natural enough. Of course some personal spins were put here and there too.

@@redlotus1353 Wydm no translation is needed? When trying to match the song with the beat/rhythm it needs to work or at least give a similar vibe. Words can be interpreted in other ways and more specific way of calling things with terms that CAN mean the same but can give a different vibe/meaning to it when said in a certain way. Its like if American jokes were translated to Japanese, you think Japanese people would understand the joke from American humor just because it was translated the SAME EXACT way? No it doesn't. That's why she tweaked the lyrics for more so of her style but still giving the song the IDOL point of the feeling when you listen to the Japanese one. A good example of trying to Translate Japanese to English but forn those that are Western English speakers saying the words which she sings "acting like she's the shit" which if you were to translate this back to Japanese this would not translate well if its WORD for WORD from their understanding.

She is genuinely an singing genius. Idol is a very difficult song to translate. Yoasobi has an English version, but naturally some of the lines may come across as dry opposed to the original because English is not their first language and Japanese is so polar to it. But AmaLee has done a wonderful carrying out a proper English rendition.

I had to listen to the original English version and the Juby Phonic version I had already for comparison to all three including this one. Ama definitely puts emotion into the singing with hers to really emulate how Ai feels with her idol life and real life up until her last breath; Juby puts some emotion in, but in a way that I believe respects the source material by making it subtle; Yoasobi keeps it the same to sound perfectly identical to the Japanese version as it's not uncommon for the singers to do that, plus it gives room for cover artists to put their own spices into the mix.
The song is still a great song for Oshi No Ko and I can't wait until I can read the third volume on my Fire!

"IDOL" is the saddest part of Oshi no Ko for me. The lyrics are just a message from Ai to not only Ruby and Aqua but to all of her fans because she never knew what love was like until seconds before her death. The song is like her life, lying all throughout but then at the end, Ai finally realises what love was and said it truthfully to her kids one last time before she died.

I didn’t really understand what the song meant before I read the manga (only book 1) But the verses about how she didn’t understand love makes much more sense after reading. I won’t say anything else as to not spoil it to anyone, but I recommend reading the mangas and watching the anime. AmaLee’s voice truly matches the character’s personality and she sings beautifully with a lot of emotion. 👍
Usually I don’t like covers of songs but that opening cripples me every time I hear it.
Really wanted Amalee to voice as Ai as she has a similar personality to Marin Kitagawa whom Amalee brought out the best out of her character/personailty.
Even from this cover you could tell Amalee would've been the perfect match for Ai.
