I totally understand Amanda's obsession with the timelines not matching up for Tokyo Drift. BUT the one thing that I will never get over with this franchise is that from installment 4 on Dom is constantly talking about family; however when we first meet him in the first one he says, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters. Not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit." Every time he talks about family, that line always runs through my head.
You know, I always took it as an aspect of his character arc. That in the first movie, he was a young man dealing with fresh trauma, and that attitude basically led to everything around him getting destroyed. So when he comes back, Brian is the one who can get him to open up. It's why Dom becomes so focused on Letty. When he comes back from being on the run, all he wants is to make it up to the people he hurt, clear their names, and set them up.

I know you take issues with Brian not being in the 9th movie but my personal head canon is that he wasn't in the movie because he was watching the children. It's funny too cuz it's like the most logical explanation for literally anything in the entire series
Helen Mirren is in fast and furious because she loves the movies 😅 she’s a big fan of cars and driving and kept saying in interviews that she wanted to be in these movies so she could drive cool cars
I binge-watched all of the Fast & Furious movies before “Fast X” came out, but at some point they all started kind of melding together, so I get characters and plot points mixed up.
Me and my mom always loved watching these movies and not that long ago we watched all of them again and we had the same thing happen. I still got confused watching this 😂
Paul Walker was amazing. I was watching a show on Shark Week one year, and there he was, working on one of the ships as just ship hand. He had wanted to be a marine biologist before he became an actor, so he took the job between movies. He also set up a charity where he personally went to disaster areas to help people. Because the charity didn’t have his name on it, most people didn’t know he had it. It was at a fundraiser for that charity where he was killed.
I think he actually paid for a bunch of those scientific shark expeditions also. Paul and his brother were nice guys, his daughter is from hawaii so when he was visiting paul and his brother would come into our shop to buy sports cards and magic the gathering cards.
@@Peanuthamperlives oh wow. Never thought of him into that kind of stuff. Cool to know. He was a really cool guy. I still haven’t been able to watch Fast & Furious 7 yet. I own it, just can’t bring myself to watch it.
I saw the 7th movie first at a drive in and it was one of the greatest movie experiences of my life, I had NO IDEA what I was getting into and it blew my mind. I then ended up marathoning my way through all the movies before that, and while the later installments are letdowns, they’re still silly fun and I love all the folks involved. I still get super emotional when I hear See U Again, I even teared up during this video when it played! So sweet. I hadn’t seen Fast X and I am now so happy to hear my girl Giselle is back, she’s such a great character.

This is oddly timed with a question sent in to the newest episode of mbmbam where someone accidentally made 40 hotdogs and wondered if they should present the hotdogs to their friends for a Fast and the Furious marathon. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence but it did make me laugh to think about
When smartphones started to raise in popularity internationally Japan was and kinda still is one of the biggest hold outs on switching away from flip phones, so flip phones in 2014 Japan isn’t unrealistic at all.
Just listening to Amanda talking about Fast 7 made me teary😢 that's how genuinely amazing it was! The franchise's gone bonkers (yes, even more) after that. Still, the Fast franchise will always be my favorite guilty pleasure cus you can feel how much fun the cast & crew have behind-the-scenes.
That should have been the end of this movie with the OG cast, by 5 it started to expand reality but the difference was there still was a solid connection and Chemistry between the cast which made these movies still entertaining after 7 the movies went into dumbass mode where I felt like once I heard 8 was out I was why it ended at 7 in my mind
I’m ready for A.I. actors, they’re going to do it eventually. If not now then 100 years from now. I’d rather see how it holds up, we could end up not liking it. The Hobbit movies tried to do 48fps film back in 2012, if they released a 48fps or 60fps film today I’m sure it would instantly become the standard since gaming standard is now 60fps
I actually watched 10 in theaters because the girl I'm sorta dating loves them. She gave me a full rundown of all movies, and I got ready to watch something absolutely ridiculous and wild. Was not disappointed. This recap showed that... Well, her memory is kinda amazing, because I knew most of the facts without having watched any other (except for 10 and Tokyo Drift). Awesome video as always!
My friends and I just finished the entire series. We got together every weekend for the next movie we had to watch. Our biggest take away is that you never turn your back on family, even when it turns it’s back on you lmao
I fully believe this is because the Torettos are stated to have Italian descent. My dad is an Italian immigrant so I can verify that family is huge in the Italian culture. It comes first & we always take care of each other. So when everyone makes fun of that part I actually understand it.
Wait… did you watch Fast X first… and then watch them in chronological order after that? I thought you were going to watch them in backwards order when you started at X, which is an absolutely hilarious concept.
Who didn't ship Bryan with Dom? They had better chemistry with each other than Bryan did with his actual love interests. Bryan and Roman also had great chemistry in F2. They even seemed like ex lovers with Roman being jealous every time Bryan flirted with Eva Mendez.
I always shipped them so hard. The chemistry was just too good. And The Fast and the Furious basically ends with Brian throwing away his career for Dom, then he gets into the FBI and things are going well when he reunites with Dom in Fast & Furious and Brian just throws away his career for Dom AGAIN. How was I supposed to not ship them?
The sheer amount of seemingly random actors that show up in this franchise is awesome. People wanted to be part of the franchise and everybody but Vin Diesel seems to be aware of what movies they are.
I love how you can make even the most ridiculous things in movies be so fun. If I watched any of these movies previously I would probably be mad at it or wouldn't bother to watch the franchise at all, but you always makes me see the silver lining on any movie you talk about. Thanks for the constant sacrifice and teachings.
GIRL I just did this same thing! I had never seen any of these, so watched the previous 9 with a friend and then watched X in theaters. It is, indeed, an experience. Agreed though- 5, 7 and 10 are my favorites. (And Jason Momoa is the best part of X by far)
When I watched Fast 7 in theaters, I got very excited when Ronda Rousey showed up (was and still am into UFC), but then dreaded the fact that she was going to have to fight Letty, because I knew if it was realistic, Letty would be dead. And I heavily rolled my eyes when Letty somehow won. It was one hell of a time overall though. I still love watching 1-6 at least once a year.
The first one will always be my favorite. I grew up watching that movie again and again and again with friends, then I have a soft spot for Tokyo Drift - as it was, without the horrible way they tried to turn back time - but mostly because I listened the shit out of that soundtrack and have a lot of great memories to those songs. I was born -90 so those movies came out during my teenage years and they really mean a lot to me. They didn't at the time, but now when I look back I only remember good memories with old friends, some that aren't alive anymore. I've seen the rest of them, but they aren't even the same _type_ of movies anymore, so I watch them more for fun than for any other reason.
Furious 7 genuinely a great movie, legit cried in the cinema (to a F&F movie?!) because of how touching and fitting their send off was for him. Very fitting that it's the best offering of the franchise.
My fiancé and I broke down crying, we'd watched them all in 2 days I think and thank goodness we had my dad's car that evening because we both needed to go and buy snacks and then calm down before the next movie 🫣 Soooo glad I didn't see it in the cinema like you, but I'm sure a lot of people cried.
It’s funny how you were expecting there to be some kind of phase structure to the movies like this was an mcu project. No the first ones were mostly just “people like undercover cop movies let’s do that.” Tbh I saw the first one and tokyo drift *several* times and had to experience the summer of drift street racing in suburbia when Tokyo Drift came out, so many near death experiences. I am pretty sure I saw 6 but I think I must have seen 4 because the plot sounded familiar when you described it. Other than that Hobbs and Shaw is legitimately one of the funnest movies I’ve seen in recent years, I love the combination of Stratham and the rock, and folding in that family theme again in a tribal standoff is absolutely insane.
I'd like to make this comment be one in regards to a series I've never gotten into because of my general disliking of cars (more of a motorcycle fan, myself), but instead, I have to take note that yes, D.E.B.S. absolutely deserved the sequel total this series has had. Talk about an underrated gem if there ever was one.
The ultimate guilty pleasure franchise for me. I own all 10 (1-9 including Hobbs and Shaw and always love marathoning them every so often. But even I can admit the films have gone so far off the deep end these days. As much as I shamelessly love F9
Funny enough one of the things the seem most ridiculous, they actually did. Brian stuntman( while in a safety harness) actually successfully run up the bus as it was falling, there is behind the scenes footage of it.
I can’t believe she watched the franchise backwards 😂 I never had the thought of that lol. Sounds like an amazing time for someone that has never even seen one.
I watched the 1st movie in theaters and was obsessed. I would have gone back to watch a second time but it had already finished its run. As soon as it was out on dvd, I tried to make everyone I know watch it. 😂
Tokyo Drift was my favorite lol, it was like a high school anime. And #2 is so nostalgic, I wanted to dress like Suki sooo bad. First one is wish fulfillment for suburban kids, the sequel was for those of us who were lower middle class lol
one thing you didn't get a chance to touch on was leo and santos, who were part of the fast 4-5 crew and cameoed in one or two later installments. i'm not bringing them up to be pedantic but to let you know that leo was played by tego calderon, a big reggaeton star, and for some reason, in fast 4 they used his real name, then *changed* *it* to leo in the next movie. this franchise is such a mess. i love it.
I have all of the F&F movies and watch them regularly. I will have them playing in the background whenever I am doing chores or I just need something on that feels familiar, easy to watch and make big boom go fast. My husband used to think I was insane...now he is FAMILY.
in F9, when Ludacris says "If we just obey the laws of physics, we'll be fine!" I stood up in my chair and screamed "HOW DARE YOU! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU, SIR!"
Can’t wait for the next film when the portals open behind Dom and all the cast members from the franchise appear plus an A.I. Paul Walker and they all defeat Jason Momoa together… as a family.
Han skimming money from the yakuza while "laying low" is alot worse when you remember that he's a millionaire and he probably took giselle's cut when she "died"
10:26 The moment you mentioned that they were wild, it reminded me that the Japanese localization of the franchise title Fast & Furious is literally "Wild Speed" (ワイルド・スピード). Also, interestingly, the secondary title for the latest installment is "Fire Boost" instead of "Fast X"
Amanda!! I am so glad you enjoyed these silly ridiculous action movies. F&F is genuinely my favorite franchise because it's just dumb fun and always delivers, but these characters end up getting to you in the end! If you like Statham and the Rock's characters, you should definitely watch Hobbs and Shaw. It is the ridiculous fun cranked up to eleven, plus you get Idris Elba's iconic "I'm Black Superman" which is definitely worth it for that. (Yes he is a cyborg...don't question it!)
YESSS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS! Honestly I never thought you would, because these movies are sooo bad but they’re sooooooo good. I love them to death. This video was a nice treat to go along with dinner. My ranking would be (best to worst): 6, 8, 1, 10, 5, 7, 2, Hobbs & Shaw, 9, 4, 3. Can’t wait for you to do the spin-off and the new movies whenever they come out!
We just experienced the same fast and furious journey. I had never seen them, was convinced to watch Fast X, was SCREAMING LAUGHING in the theater, and went back to watch the first nine.
Regarding the japanese flip phones: Mostly based on answers I read to people also complaining about flip phones in anime and manga: In Japan for years after "introducing the smart phones", flip phones stayed quite popular (even though probably way more modern ones than the ones you showed in the video 😂), but I am not sure until when (e.g. if incl. 2014) or how wide spread (demographic groups).
I genuinely, unironically LOVE the first two movies. Like, I genuinely love them so much. I bought the Lego set of Dom and Brian's cars (the Dodge Charger and the Nissian Skyline).
EXACTLY I had so much fun watching fast x, I mean.. after 9 and stuff.. Caught it in theater with my dad too! We had fun laughing on John Cena and little b's shenanigans. Definitely a core memory
Thank you for dedicating yourself as you always do for this ridiculous franchise. Only watching you rant and review the movies makes them even better ❤
Official Fast & furious drinking game: take a shot every time they say family, drink carona’s, they use NOS. These movies are so unbelievably brain dead, but they’re pretty fun. Great vid
I love everything about these movies after the first 2 because the way the cars move reminds me of how I used to play with mini toy cars in my parents minivan when I was like 8. Driving off the window and arm rests and stuff. God it's stupid and I love it.
I love these movies so much. They are batshit insane, make no sense and are full of questionable morals and stereotypes, but since the creators are fully aware of that and lean into it on purpose, it's just always a fun time 🤭
One of my middle school teachers showed us that music video for “when i see you again,” it had nothing to do with history class but the movie had just come out so i guess he wanted to share the heartwarming sendoff with his classes
Love this franchise, been watching them in the theatres since three or four. They're just fun, feel good movies. I like how they don't take themselves too seriously And the ending of 7 was a beautiful send off for Paul
I unironically love these movies. We used to watch Fast 5 in my auto shop class in high school when my uncle didn't feel like teaching because "It's about cars". But when I tell people about the series I explain it as street racing turned action movies turned action movie parodies. They are so camp and Jason Momoa was the qu33r coded villain we needed all along.
I cherish this franchise, honestly. No irony. It has a very near and dear place to my heart as movies my sisters and I loved to watch. Up until we lose Paul Walker. Past that point there is just too much of a hole in the heart of the story. The seventh movie was a perfect sendoff to both Brian and the franchise, and I have no interest in the following movies. Sure, the first seven get pretty crazy and ridiculous with the physics, but they still had the heart, y'know ? Before ""family"" became super memed on the internet. I remember being devastated when I learned of Paul Walker’s death, and “when I see you again” is still a pan automatic crying trigger for me. And this franchise was my introduction to the Rock, which I find pretty funny. I spent my mid teens basically obsessed with vin diesel because of this franchise, so fond memories. To a point.
Big same. I always liked this franchise (I even have Dom's cross) but I didn't realize how attached I was to it until Paul Walker's death, I was devastated when it happened. I still can't listen to See you again without crying. I've only seen until the seventh movie. I know what happens in the following movies (because of watching videos like this one) and maybe I will get around to see them some day, but I can't say I am specially interested because for me Brian and Dom relationship was the heart of the franchise and I know that with Brian gone it will not be the same.
my husband does not get why I watch those movies, because they are over the top 🤣 also as engineer I love to list laws of physics that was broken in each scene , you can make it a drinking game
I love the Fastchise. Characters coming back from the dead, 3 no less or is it 4? Villains becoming heroes. Amnesia. This is a big-budget soap opera, and I love it.
The first F&F I ever watched was Fast 5 in the theater and it was awesome. Then I watched Fast 7 in theaters, and I cried. Haven't watched another one since, but I've heard so much that Fast X is goofy and campy, and that's my type of action movie, so I might watch it just bc Jason Momoa is a goofy villain.
I liked the first Fast and the Furious movie back when it was called Point Break. Ironically there was a newer Point Break that was a remake of Fast and the Furious.
I'm late to see this but seriously thank you for this video! I've looked for fast and furious reviews for so long!! All I could find was surface level and very focused on the cars. Glad to see this!

I know you take issues with Brian not being in the 9th movie but my personal head canon is that he wasn't in the movie because he was watching the children. It's funny too cuz it's like the most logical explanation for literally anything in the entire series
I can't imagine watching this franchise in reverse, as things get more and more grounded in reality the further back you go!😂
It's like starting with something as bizzare as Transformers and ending on something grounded like Tony Jaa's Ong Bak action flicks
It's like that episode of American Dad where Francine, Steve, and Roger decide to watch "Breaking Bad" in reverse. 🤣
I love how watching these movies has Amanda super hyped like she just got an adrenaline shot. 😂
I love it. She's amped up haha
a NOS shot
When Vin Diesel says La Familia like a plank of wood, you really feel it.
Well he also plays a sentient tree so is all in LA FAMILIA
Helen Mirren is in fast and furious because she loves the movies 😅 she’s a big fan of cars and driving and kept saying in interviews that she wanted to be in these movies so she could drive cool cars
Thank you for doing this because I will still never do it myself, even if it does have Michelle Rodriguez.
I binge-watched all of the Fast & Furious movies before “Fast X” came out, but at some point they all started kind of melding together, so I get characters and plot points mixed up.
Me and my mom always loved watching these movies and not that long ago we watched all of them again and we had the same thing happen.
I still got confused watching this 😂
I had a marathon with a friend who hadn’t seen them before. So I made detailed one-sheets for each movie and charts and graphs 😂
The absolute audacity to not acknowledge Carter Verone as a top-tier villain 😭 The rat scene alone haunted me for years.
"You owe me a new gate!"
Had his own charity & went off & did charity work, but didn’t use his name to publicize it. Shows what a down to earth guy he was. Really miss him.
You know, I actually expected there to be MORE than 21 hours so this seems doable.
She left Hobbes and Shaw out. So there could be argued that there was at least one movie left out. Lol
@@katherinemclean1448 along with Han's canonical origins in Better Luck Tomorrow, the film they licensed the tile from "The Fast and The Furious (1954)". the short "The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious", the short film "Los Bandoleros" directed by Vin Diesel, and the animated spin off 6 season series "Fast & Furious Spy Racers" about Dom's cousin Tony Toretto. Plus a dozen video games, if you include arcade and mobile titles (4 video games if you are a coward and only count consoles)
you DO have a dodge charger right, because if no that makes me a little nervous for you
The dealer is locking in my Toretto detailing as we speak
This is oddly timed with a question sent in to the newest episode of mbmbam where someone accidentally made 40 hotdogs and wondered if they should present the hotdogs to their friends for a Fast and the Furious marathon. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence but it did make me laugh to think about
When smartphones started to raise in popularity internationally Japan was and kinda still is one of the biggest hold outs on switching away from flip phones, so flip phones in 2014 Japan isn’t unrealistic at all.
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Isn't the samsung flip phone really popular in Japan ?
Yes I was thinking this when she mentioned flip phones being dated in Japan.
I’ve been so excited for this. This week so far has been terrible but, this will make it bearable.
I like that at some point they just started resurrecting everyone. Next thing you know, they bring Paul Walker back.
Don't give the corporations any more ideas for A.I.
His brother is a great look-alike. Entirely possible if they plan on going that far.
Didn't they do that already?
I’m ready for A.I. actors, they’re going to do it eventually. If not now then 100 years from now. I’d rather see how it holds up, we could end up not liking it. The Hobbit movies tried to do 48fps film back in 2012, if they released a 48fps or 60fps film today I’m sure it would instantly become the standard since gaming standard is now 60fps
@@Coalazure That's not the same thing. The day you start replacing creative jobs with AI is the day humans will stop using their brains.
12:33 Flip phones had a surprisingly long life in Japan, which weirdly makes this more plausible than it should be.
They even seemed like ex lovers with Roman being jealous every time Bryan flirted with Eva Mendez.
like that episode of american dad where the kids find a script for the next fast and its dom and brian being gay lovers.
This is too real, I had Brian/Dom rule my entire brain for about 6 months when I was 13
I always shipped them so hard.
The chemistry was just too good. And The Fast and the Furious basically ends with Brian throwing away his career for Dom, then he gets into the FBI and things are going well when he reunites with Dom in Fast & Furious and Brian just throws away his career for Dom AGAIN. How was I supposed to not ship them?
not romantically but they had so much chemistry
@ladyorapma this comment is gonna make me look for unhinged fan fiction about them😂
It's about family, and that's what's so special about it.
The 'F' never stood for Fast or Furious, it stands for Family.
@@somerandolad Family and Furious 3: Family Drift
The sheer amount of seemingly random actors that show up in this franchise is awesome. People wanted to be part of the franchise and everybody but Vin Diesel seems to be aware of what movies they are.
I love how you can make even the most ridiculous things in movies be so fun. If I watched any of these movies previously I would probably be mad at it or wouldn't bother to watch the franchise at all, but you always makes me see the silver lining on any movie you talk about.
Thanks for the constant sacrifice and teachings.
You wonderful human being, 21 hours, just Im so glad you make this kind of content. its the best, great stuff!!!
Letty also fought Gina Carano in Fast 5.
I have no interest in F&F, but you make just about anything entertaining. Thanks for all the work that went into this video.
The "family, family, family" chant at 33 minutes is what happens when you watch way too many of these movies back to back 😂
I'd like to make this comment be one in regards to a series I've never gotten into because of my general disliking of cars (more of a motorcycle fan, myself), but instead, I have to take note that yes, D.E.B.S. absolutely deserved the sequel total this series has had. Talk about an underrated gem if there ever was one.
I did this a week ago and it's hilarious seeing the progression of these movies getting more and more out of hand lol
Thanks, Amanda. I remember to this day feeling strange while rewinding tapes as a kid. I never knew it was the plastic smell all along.
i think the flip phone in 2014 in Japan isnt to far off i mean they still used fax machines until recently.
was following your reviews on letterboxd and was hoping so much you'd do a video about the franchise!! 😄
😹😹😹 it really is the biggest cult around looool
in F9, when Ludacris says "If we just obey the laws of physics, we'll be fine!" I stood up in my chair and screamed "HOW DARE YOU!
OH SHIT you're so right
10:26 The moment you mentioned that they were wild, it reminded me that the Japanese localization of the franchise title Fast & Furious is literally "Wild Speed" (ワイルド・スピード).
I love this franchise because it is so ridiculously fun, just a nice easy movie night without thinking too much
Exactly. People complaining about how unrealistic the franchise is or calling out physic mistakes just don't get that.
YESSS! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS! Honestly I never thought you would, because these movies are sooo bad but they’re sooooooo good. I love them to death. This video was a nice treat to go along with dinner. My ranking would be (best to worst):
6, 8, 1, 10, 5, 7, 2, Hobbs & Shaw, 9, 4, 3.
Can’t wait for you to do the spin-off and the new movies whenever they come out!
We just experienced the same fast and furious journey. I had never seen them, was convinced to watch Fast X, was SCREAMING LAUGHING in the theater, and went back to watch the first nine.
Regarding the japanese flip phones:
Mostly based on answers I read to people also complaining about flip phones in anime and manga:
In Japan for years after "introducing the smart phones", flip phones stayed quite popular (even though probably way more modern ones than the ones you showed in the video 😂), but I am not sure until when (e.g. if incl. 2014) or how wide spread (demographic groups).
😂😂😂 omg I’m having so much fun watching this! Thanks Amanda.
I genuinely, unironically LOVE the first two movies. Like, I genuinely love them so much. I bought the Lego set of Dom and Brian's cars (the Dodge Charger and the Nissian Skyline).
You forgot the best part in 7! Where Dom says ‘the streets always wins…’ and then he stomps and the concrete cracks and buried Hobbs 😂😂
THAT WILL FOREVER KILL ME 😭😭
this video becomes more and more like a 3 day mania episode of a severe manic depressive. Its such a mood.
I’ve never been more ready for one of your videos
Official Fast & furious drinking game: take a shot every time they say family, drink carona’s, they use NOS. These movies are so unbelievably brain dead, but they’re pretty fun. Great vid
Great vid! Han's "this is my Mexico" speech from Tokyo Drift is one of my favorite acting moments in any crime film.
I love everything about these movies after the first 2 because the way the cars move reminds me of how I used to play with mini toy cars in my parents minivan when I was like 8. Driving off the window and arm rests and stuff. God it's stupid and I love it.
I’m so proud of Amanda for putting herself through this. 😂❤
I am so excited for this! 😊 Love a good long Amanda video
i always have so much fun watching your videos, but this was definitely a highlight! becoming a fan of the whole "it's so dumb it's perfect" genre
I like how they don't take themselves too seriously
And the ending of 7 was a beautiful send off for Paul
I've never watched any of these movies and I've wanted to do the same thing you did for a while so this is really fun to watch 😂
I've only seen the first 2 movies as I saw them on dates as a teen. Dang, I'm old. This video makes me want to watch the rest.
There are even two short films in the franchise: "Turbo-Charged Prelude" and "Los Bandoleros".
Also, having visited Japan around 2013, they definitely still used flip phones (although ones that were closer to dual screen iPhones)
my husband does not get why I watch those movies, because they are over the top 🤣 also as engineer I love to list laws of physics that was broken in each scene , you can make it a drinking game
I love the Fastchise. Characters coming back from the dead, 3 no less or is it 4? Villains becoming heroes. Amnesia. This is a big-budget soap opera, and I love it.
Amanda chanting "Family, Family!" bingeing this franchise is amazing - welcome aboard the Family train!
I watched them all back to back too, during lock down, as a joke one day, learned to like them 😆 ended up going to the cinemas for Fast X 🤣🤣
Tokyo Drift is unironically in my top 5 favourite movies of all time. It's just way too much fun.
Its my favourite of the series, I can watch it independently at any the time :)
You look like you had so much fun watching these movies, I might just watch them too.
I'm late to see this but seriously thank you for this video! I've looked for fast and furious reviews for so long!!
All I could find was surface level and very focused on the cars. Glad to see this!
