Thank you bunches for this video. With the way the painting is "inside" the brown background, it makes it look kinda like it's in an "old, antique wooden frame" which has been broken or chipped in some areas. Or, at least behind an old piece of torn, "weathered" paper. Love that look - it's so very beautiful to me! 😆
A really useful video with excellent tips for landscape painting. Using a large brush like this is so effective. There is tendency to get too hooked on small brushes and therefore small fussy details. Landscape is more successful with a broader looser approach. You demonstrate this so well. Many thanks.
All of Kevin's brushes...are wonderful..I found if you use the tip of the 1 or 2 inch you can tap on foam for seascapes...looks realistic...just use the corner tip.. Also great for blending...
+Richi S hi...if your still looking for brushes...oil painting supplies...have a look at Kevin's website...he has his own brushline and palette of oils. He also has fantastic DVDs/downloads for beginners..I have his entire library of lessons...and learned from him. If you watch his videos here and DVD lessons several times...pay attention to what he says and when he's painting. I really can say thanks to Kevin I advanced so much...enjoy your journey...welcome to the process..
Liz Nigh I *think* it's because, when you hold your brushes like that, "far back" on the "stem" of them, you are able to control the pressure of the paint transfer from your brush to your canvas, better .... sometimes, you only want or need a lighter touch to achieve the desired amount of paint on the canvas for the "look" you need.
Kevin,
Thank you for sharing these short videos on different uses of the brushes. They are awesome!

Why do you hold your brushes like a pencil????
Liz Nigh I *think* it's because, when you hold your brushes like that, "far back" on the "stem" of them, you are able to control the pressure of the paint transfer from your brush to your canvas, better .... sometimes, you only want or need a lighter touch to achieve the desired amount of paint on the canvas for the "look" you need.
