  • So maybe you've covered all the basics and you're not sure where to go from there. In today's video I will guide you through what to teach your dog after basic commands. This tutorial should serve as a natural progression from basic commands like come, sit and down. I use my own dogs to demonstrate some very simple things you can work on with a dog of any age!

    I am doing my homework, thanks for the lesson. I am seriously checking out the breed after having 7 Labrador Retrievers, field trial dogs with super ability. They have all passed due to age now. I am learning how to train this breed and hoping to get a good candidate for a nice dog.

    Mom, I must say you are one of the best. Thank you so much for making this type of video. In about 2 weeks I will be getting my 1st BM. I will be paying a professional trainer to get me and the dog trained very well. But, your video has already helped me a lot.

    Love your videos K!!! I was wondering how I would be able to start training protection work ? Do you have any idea?
    Ive contacted protection dog training facilities, but unfortunately I don’t think they offer courses to teach me how to do it. AND… it’s in another country from me.
    Should I go solo and do it myself ( with a lot of studying before that)
    I’m getting my first Belgian malinois puppy at the end of this year or mid April next year ( depending on the litter that will be available at that time)
    Sorry if you can’t answer this question.

    I know I'm very late to this view video. After watching many videos of Belgian Malinois, especially yours Maligator Mom, I came to realize these types of pups are at the top of the chain of intelligence, can these same teaching methods be taught to let's say a Jack Russel...?

    Thanks for the tutorial! I can relate to the "crazy" 😁..im training my BM (11 mo) to enter his crate..when do i start closing the door? I was able to lure him inside but once i closed the door and left him inside for a couple of minutes,he no longer wanted to enter the crate again...do i train the going in the crate with the door open first? For how long should I do that till he realizes its not a "trap"...

    Wow I have been duin it all wrong thanks to a local trainer who made me buy the Dogtra E collar to shock her to do the right thing. Never worked & now she is terrified of it. Treats are the way to go one time she did my command no issues! ❤

      Get a working line German Shepherd. Not a show line. Malinois are great dogs but so are working line German Shepherds and they tend to have a better off switch for living in the home while still maintaining a high level of energy and drive. But if you would like a smaller dog than get a Malinois.. don't just go by UA-cam channels do your research and talk to breeders. Look up working line German Shepherd compared to Malinois. You have to take into account temperament, size, getting a dog from a breeder that does all the proper Health clearances for both breeds, hips and elbows are mandatory, and eyes should also be done. The main difference between a Malinois and a Shepherd is that a Malinois is slightly smaller and finer boned, more agile and tends to be more hyper and a little more neurotic. Working line German Shepherds are still very agile but they are larger dogs, have a great level of energy, are wonderful protection, and tend to have a better off switch depending on the line. Working line German Shepherds are also great deterrent dogs because they are quite intimidating looking, not to mention gorgeous. Just Google black Sable working line German Shepherd if you don't know what I'm talking about. They are also extremely handsome dogs. I would recommend to Czech line German Shepherd possibly with some Eastern DDR line as well. If you're looking to do high-level sport then you might want to get a dog with some West German in it or get a Malinois. Lastly, Malinois are little more sensitive to Corrections and working line German Shepherds tend to be a little more tough and willing to take a firmer correction. Stay away from the show line German Shepherds unless you like that look but I personally think they look like very poor representations of the breed

    • @primalcritters
      @primalcritters 3 роки тому +1

      And I don't think she is breeding dogs. Puppies sold with selected from another breeder. If you are insistent on getting Malinois, there are many wonderful Malinois breeders in Australia as well. Please do your research on both breeds before you jump into getting a Malinois. I love both breeds but I would say that the average person probably would do better with a working line German Shepherd so long as they give him the proper mental and physical stimulation simply because they have a better off switch for home living. Malinois can be a little more tricky with that..do as you wish but to meet both breeds. Maybe go to a local schutzhund or bite club and spend time with dogs of each breed to get some hands on experience.

      Hi. I was reading your comments on wanting a dog. I am an average pet dog owner in Japan who likes German Shepherds. I've had 17 American Show line german shepherds and my most recent one is a 2 year old female working line German Shepherd. Until I got the working line, I had no idea how different these two dogs are. I thought of myself to be an experienced dog owner but after getting the working line I realized I knew nothing about high drive dogs. It changed my life completely. Watching Maligator mom, I feel malinois are harder to live with than a german shepherd. For a person who has never had a dog, getting a malinois is a really big challenge no matter how well trained the dog is because owning and managing a well-trained and High Drive dog requires a lot of experience on your part too. You may need to make lifestyle changes as well. For example, you aren't going to be able to leave your dog out in a big fenced yard half a day by itself because your dog is probably going to be barking at almost anything that passes by your home. Anyway, just my thoughts.
