- Any fire roll fiber that works with a wood ashes filler should also work with rust. This is my first 2 attempts with a rust in paper towel fire roll. They both ignited easily.

I get a kick out of your training. All the bs gadgets out there and you just give it a roll. Greatly appreciated!👍
I appreciate that!
Hi David! The beauty of this technique is the wide availability of both rust and paper towel and napkins anywhere near human habitation. Its reactivity is dang impressive too.
Absolutely, ty!
I've had good results with rust. I also like the remains from one of those single use hand warmers after it's used up. From what I've experienced, both rust and the hand warmer filler make a hotter ember than wood ash does. I've held the ignited fire roll that used rust as an accelerant and found it gets quite hot as the ember nears my fingers. Interestingly those hand warmers are contained in some sort of cellulose packaging ... I've not tried to see if that packaging could be used for the fire roll! If so you'd have ready made fire roll ingredients in one small parcel! Anyway, try out the contents of one of those exhausted hand warmers which is basically rust as I understand it.
Now I am sure we will soon see David make a fire roll from a shadow! 😂
I had no idea this was possible. Now I must give it a go, Great video!!!
Master cotton and wood ashes first. See my fire roll playlist.
Wow...another firemaking hack with easily found and cheap matetials!
Another great demonstration! 👍🇺🇸
I appreciate it!
Another great demonstration David
Another great one David thanks for sharing
💯Thnx Dave, like always. BE SAFE...
Thanks Robert
Good demonstration David, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !
Greetings from a Tiny Island in Maine, USA Nice work David.
TY. My Father was from Caribou.
@ That’s a beautiful area about 2 hours northeast of us up in potato growing country 😀
Keep those great videos coming.
LOL! We had potatoes with every supper... prepared many different ways. Have a good evening.
Dunno why but I always find that, 'lemme get some leaves' - turns around and gets leaves - bit so funny 😂 It's like it would be in Monty Pithon or something.
It has to happen. There's a huge difference in making pre-dried, bone dry leaves go to flames and making moisture rich, straight off the ground leaves ignite.
Another great demonstration. Thank you!
Very interesting
Incredible
You've earned yourself a subscription and a bell 🔔 awesome 😎 thank you
Thanks friend!
Nice
Thanks
Dust [fine dirt] would work too... Thnx David!
1 out of 10 tries for me.
Is there a science-based description behind either the rust or charcoal version of this?
Ash provides friction and is a catalyst which supports combustion.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Thanks for the quick response. That makes sense. Thus, trying it with some KY Jelly and it will not work.
👍🏾🙏🏾
With the same logic, powdered punk wood charcoal, or powdered char cloth should actually be excellent.
Have you tried it?
Yes, see those videos in my fire roll playlist.
WARNING: DO NOT PUT PAPER TOWELS IN A CHEVY PICKUP TRUCK! 🔥
Right? Makes for spectacular "rollover" crashes!
I'm not trying to nit pick, but why not use the whole sheet and cut it into short pieces after it's rolled up. Is it too hard to roll a whole sheet tight enough?
I’ve tried, but don’t like the spillage from them being full to the very ends with rust and ash… on leaves and the others too, I prefer the filler sort of encapsulated.
I watch a lot of reality TV shows, I've been just waiting for some contestant to use this method of fire starting forever now it seems like. Has anyone else seen a show where they have used this???
Fire roll, Rudiger roll is all over youtube.
If flamable dust particles work, would wheat flour or other plant dust work? Grain elevators are famous for spontaneous combustion.
I’m sure of it.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl - Thx.
Why not just buy iron oxide
Could.
I wonder if you could tear or rough up that leading edge prior to rolling to help it along
Yes, I do that with fabrics that I fire roll.
