It’s sort weird that 78 Tarot put out such a cheap deck… their stuff normally has a nice magnetic box and great card stock… do you think it was someone pretending to be 78 Tarot putting out a knockoff?
Honestly, I don't think so. It was from their kickstarter specifically. What it really was, I think, was that they tried a new format (mini sized deck) and just decided to be cheap about it. It's a shame they went that way, but it is what it is now.
Thank you for sharing this. How awful that you paid good money for such poor quality decks. I really appreciate people who are honest as it stops us all making mistakes and being disappointed x
That makes sense, I meant more that, based on comments by OTHER backers, the price in question was not what 78 originally told people they were going to be charged. So that's why so many were surprised.
Wow they really did a disservice to all of the artists on the project. The artwork is stunning. I also almost backed this, but decided not to as I had other places my money needed to go at the time. That tarot deck looks like a print problem. Like when the card stock was run through the machine scratched the cards. That doesn’t solve the problem of it being bad card stock though. How disappointing and frustrating. I thought 78 Tarot made exceptional quality decks. It seems like they do 1 project a year. I know they are working on a Halloween oracle to come out this year. Thank you for your review.
I mean, I see that people like the normal size tarot (that apparently has a high gloss cardstock) but they didn't put time into picking a printer that does good minis, which is disappointing to see 😔
The minis almost have the feel and appearance of knock offs. My own fault getting the minis I guess. The banners look like someone took a label maker to the front of every card. So disappointed in these decks.
13:33 But the Kickstarter gives estimates for shipping... And $30 international shipping is actually a standard lol As someone who lives in Canada, I've seen shipping to me anywhere between 20 to 50 USD.
To clarify: 78 Tarot themselves gave us all a different estimates originally for shipping and it wasn't included in the price on Kickstarter. It's not that I had to pay for the extra shipping necessarily that's annoying, it's that they gave many people the wrong amount, so many people's shipping costs bounced back because it was double the original price
@Crescent Dreams Tarot Yeah, but it says estimations in the campaign. That doesn't mean that they are final costs. Also, I'm pretty sure the estimations are USD not in the person's currency. Gotta factor in exchange rates.
I so understand you with your Kickstarter decks (some of the cards look quite frankly awful). I regularly back decks and am generally super happy with them but I have just been epically conned by a creator.... He started sending out some of the decks(made mistakes in most of the orders that he did sent out- lots of complaints on the comment page of the project) and then vanished! He deactivated his twitter account and so on, nobody can get ahold of him. Some of us reported the project to kickstarter and they are washing their hands off of it. I have basically paid premium for a deck I backed in September and will not receive anything. In the meantime, nothing is happening to the creator who ran off with people's money... I have therefore decided I will not back decks on Kickstarter anymore since they seem to think it is not their responsibility to a least ban the creator from their platform so he does not rip off others like me. Anyway, just thought I'd share this with you as not many people talk about this kind of things....
@@CrescentDreamsTarot The Ethereal Avatar Tarot. I have just posted a short video about it and have tagged you on it. I have also linked your video in the description box as I felt people might want to see/hear about your experience with your mini KS decks. 😊
I backed the same tier in the kickstarter as you, except I added on an extra pocket edition of the animal tarot. I agree that I am disappointed with what I received. What I know is I won't buy smaller decks again. I ask myself, what if I had gotten the standard decks? Would I feel the same way? Nothing we can do now except learn from the experience since she has a no return/exchange policy.
The standard is in a cardstock I also don't like 😂 but it's different than the mini one (super high gloss, apparently). At this point I'm just going to stay clear of 78 personally, but that's just me.
Yeah that kinda pisses me off from Lo Scarebeo. Personally I’m not above straight up throwing a deck in the trash but not before I write to let them know why I tossed it. It did kinda cross my mind to get that deck up I avoided it because it did look like there was no diversity but I did not expect that. I really appreciate you sharing that. I also appreciate the share about the Kickstarter process. I got that deck from Etsy and it was smooth sailing so now I know not to back any kickstarters and just wait. Also now I know to leave the minis alone. So sorry. Ugh …it sucks when this stuff happens. Just hold those decks tho because they hold their value and even go up once they go out of print so hopefully you can at least get ur money back. But I think you should try to reach out to them about maybe getting a deck that is at least not scratched up. I know that others have said they have good customer service when it comes to quality control.
Yeah, that Lo Scarabeo one might need the trash to be honest 💀 and thank you for the head's up about 78 tarot. The only thing is, the cardstock is so cheap that I really wouldn't want another copy of the deck at this point. So idk, I have to accept what it is.
What's the deck that you preordered that would fill the fantasy-ish niche (the one you said had a bit of a limited color palette)? I'm also looking for something like that too. Also, I'm sorry about the scratches and the cardstock :
It's not a tarot but an oracle, called The Citadel Oracle by Liminal 11. I pre-ordered the Special Edition because I'm extra LMAO (and I should say, had the money to drop at the time) but there's a standard edition they have up for pre-order as well. It's mostly in shades of a parchment white, black, red, and copper. It's going to take archetypes of fantasy characters for it, and the other deck it'll come with (for the special edition) has more fantasy related tie-ins, but they've been tight-lipped on that one, so I have no clue what it looks like yet until I get it.
@@CrescentDreamsTarot Ah I really love the look of the Citadel Oracle! Thank you, I'll preorder one too. It's lovely, I remember seeing it was in the special edition of one of their previous decks and I always wanted it by itself!!
@@SunTurtle Yeah, it apparently used to be in the special edition with the Seed and Sickle, but now they've expanded it to have twice as many cards, I believe. So I'm super excited!
I'm disappointed to see so many quality issues with the new 78 Tarot decks. I have their 78 Tarot Astral and love it, and was considering getting the 78 Tarot Magical but this has given me pause. Thank you so much for sharing!
I hope you find a solution for what to to with the cards. Mabey you can use the ones you like for journaling or something, although it will be expensive journaling.. But I think there should be more videos that tells what not to buy and why.
@@CrescentDreamsTarot have you tried the alleyman’s tarot? I find it fascinating like tarot but chaotic 😂 but it’s also more fun than this one… can’t you get a refund? They have an Etsy shop
I have the full-size in my Etsy cart and luckily I watched this video first. The quality of the cards are inexcusable especially given how well funded they were. That is truly such an insult to the artists, the backers as well as customers in the future to cheap out that bad and have the gull to send out a deck with such terrible quality card stock. Also, pdfs or decks that don’t provide a guidebook of substance but instead give a breadcrumbs trail of info/keywords that way customers buy the companion guidebook that costs 2/3 the price of the deck itself is another very disheartening thing. Making a profit is of course valid but there’s no excuse to send out a deck like this for what it cost.
I am sorry to hear what happened and I am with you. I hate when I'm all excited my Kickstarter will be shipping soon and then they slam an extra shipping charge. Sometimes makes me regret buying the deck. But the images are gorgeous, even the one with scratches I was in love with (Larry elmore need I say more) but I can't back a deck at that cost for 1 card. If I had that card I'd put it on a vision board so maybe you can put them into journals or decorations in your house. It's still art, just not a usable tarot. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate honest perspectives
I am so sorry your decks for all the scratches. I saw more complaints in the KS comments. Have you complained to them? I got the two big decks. They were fine but so big I cannot imagine using them as tarot or oracle cards. They will probably end up on my altars.
The 78 tarot Magical Minis are waaaaayyy toooooo small. This was the first time I got a mini and I will not be getting any 78 tarot minis in the future. Shipping is insane right now all over. I was not upset by the shipping costs of my decks and I got the full size.
I don't mind paying for shipping, I should have clarified that. I think I was more mad that I paid that much for shipping when the cards themselves were of terrible quality AND it wasn't what they originally told people, mainly.
Thank you for this video! Yeah the Harmonious Tarot is such a tragedy. I LOVE Art Nouveau, have other AN decks and this was right up my alley. I am essentially an ideal client for this. Or WAS lol Well that's a sale they ain't making from me. Way to go Lo Scarabeo! I've heard from a couple other people of color that have lived in Italy that the country generally has a poorer record of civil rights/anti-discrimination. Not sure if it's true but that may explain how this got a green light in freakin' 2023 lol As a woman of color yes seeing people like me in decks is wonderful and preferred but it definitely would not even have been a deal breaker if this deck had only people of European descent. That'd be totally fine to me. But those card images are inexcusable. It doesn't matter if that sort of imagery was popular at the turn of the 20th century when this art movement originally happened. This isn't 1923. It's 2023. Lo Scarabeo, you know what also was popular in 1923? Lacing products and food with radium for a "healthy glow." You going to do that too, Lo Scarabeo, to be true to the time? Lol no. Don't do this either. Common sense. Extremely unnecessary. Thank you so much for doing this! It was so informative and it also made me laugh! 😂
Yes to all of this! I would rather they just let it be all euro than do this. It’s completely unacceptable and I have a lot of lo scarebeo decks but this will make me think twice before I get another one I know that’s for sure.
It's outrageous. I saw the campaign and was like omg not happening. (I think they have like 4 new ones coming out just this year) $$$ that gives me a bad taste.
That's a shame but I appreciate videos like this one suggestion I would have to avoid totally trashing a while deck would be to use cards for different craft projects and get rid of the insulting cards I dont know if your into junk journaling, glue booking, scrapbooking, or anything else like that but there is at least craft potential I do crafting like that so I see everything with craft potential even envelopes we might throw away with the clear sections because I can make "windows" in junk journals with that part lol anyway just a thought
Lo Scarabeo has lots of racism issues, including giving ethnic pen names to white creators of ethnic decks. Harmonious tarot was one of my first 6 decks. As an Indigenous person racism in tarot art made it really hard to get into tarot. And the slow pace of change is difficult
