- Peggy Gordon is said to be a Canadian folksong, it was originally collected in Nova Scotia, others claim it to be Scottish in origin possibly brought over in the mid 1800s. Whatever the case may be, no one has ever sang it quite like Luke Kelly, Lyrics Below;
Oh, Peggy Gordon, you are my darling
Come sit you down upon my knee
Come tell to me the very reason
Why I am slighted so by thee
I'm so in love, I can't deny it
My heart lies smothered in my breast
It's not for you to let the world know it
A troubled mind can know no rest
I did put my head to a cask of brandy
It was my fancy I do declare
For when I'm drinking I am thinking
And wishing Peggy Gordon was here
I wish I was away in Ingo
Far across the briny sea
Sailing o'er the deepest ocean
Where love nor care ever bother me
I wish I was in some lonesome valley
Where womankind cannot be found
Where the pretty small birds
Do change their voices
And every moment a different sound
Oh, Peggy Gordon, you are my darling
Come sit you down upon my knee
Come tell to me the very reason
Why I am slighted so by thee

The most romantic song....
Blessings my brother!!!
Beautifully Singing 🎧🎵💚☘️👏👏👏
I love this song
Very well done Paddy, I love this song. About the comment below "can only be sung by a man", the poster probably hasn't heard Sinéad's beautiful version. She said that she recorded it because at the time, it was a favorite song of the (then persecuted) lesbian community in Ireland. So that lends a different dimension to this song. Way to go Paddy, makes me want to try it on a banjo too.
Ah this is brilliant! This man is a superstar! Fantastic

Hey, Paddy, I love your sound and banjo-playing. Wonder what banjo you’re playing, and how can I get a CD of your songs?
Hey, the name of that banjo is Billybilt. if you search Billybilt banjo you should find him, if not just shoot me an email and i can send you his details. They are really nice instruments, made in Canada, out in Manitoba.
i dont have any CDs at the minute, I do hope to record a trad/ballads album one of these days though. Thanks, P.
