You Look to Yours - Colter Wall Cover
You Look to Yours, from Colter Walls self-titled debut album released in 2017.
Lyrics:
I met a little girl in Saskatoon
She was beaming, bold and beautiful and higher than the moon
Before I could profess, she left too soon
The words she spoke were enough to make me blue
She said, I know just what you're wishing
Two folks in our condition
We'll never leave this barroom with our pride
So go about your earthly mission
Don't trust no politicians
You look to yours and I will look to mine
I met a Nashville honky-tonkin' queen
And the caress of her amber lips was reserved for Jim Beam
Took her by the arm, she made a scene
Whiskey was yet to dull her tongue, it seemed
She said, I know just what you're wishing
Two folks in our condition
We'll never leave this barroom with our pride
So go about your earthly mission
Don't trust no politicians
You look to yours and I will look to mine
Out west, by God, Virginia's where I'm bound
She's as wild, she's as wonderful as any girl I've found
So keep me just as long as I'm around
I never have to hear that awful sound
Well, I know just what you're wishing
Two folks in our condition
We'll never leave this barroom with our pride
So go about your earthly mission
Don't trust no politicians
You look to yours and I will look to mine

Great Song! Where are the brave men today ... We need them so much!
Well I've heard about folks saying that when Johnny Cash covers your song it becomes his. It's true in this case, Paddy your style is unique. This is indeed the best version of this song I've ever heard. It's definitely a more dog friendlier version anyway. ;)
Excellent performance as always, love that song!
Nice

Great music, I'll listen to all of your songs! Hello from the USA.
Love it lad 👌
Nice one Paddy ! Sounds great on the banjo!
Nice job
When I hear this I recall a woman, so dear to me still after decades. On a quiet street where old ghosts meet. Indeed.
Beautiful interpretation of you, Paddy. 🍀🥀🌻
That was lovely 😊
Content 👌
I think my original comment was cut out because it was too long or because it referenced other sites. Anyway, this is a fab version with beautifully plaintive vocals that fit the spirit of the song perfectly. There is a long thread on Mudcat which gives a lot of detail regarding the origins of the song, which relates to a hare hunt in Granemore in the 30s. Many of the people referred to were real, and the song was probably first played in Toner's house. In the Irish variant of hare hunting the death of the hare was not desired, and dogs have been muzzled since the 1990s in (legal) hare hunts in Ireland. The Mudcat article has the original complete lyrics, and Josephemcmahon is correct that it's 'boys' and 'Granemore'. Steeleye has 'Greenmore' and Terry sings that. Al O'Donnell has 'Granemore' and it's a great version (although not, IMO as good as this one).
Beautiful Paddy! Keep going strong!
awesome
Favourite!!
