Creating an inlet and outlet: An inlet and outlet are created to allow the water to flow into and out of the pit. The inlet should be located at a higher elevation than the outlet to allow the water to flow naturally.
Planting trees: To prevent the water from getting stagnant, trees and plants can be planted around the pit. The trees also help to improve the water quality by absorbing pollutants.
Maintenance: Regular maintenance is required to ensure that the padutha kulam remains in good condition. The bund should be repaired if it is damaged, and the inlet and outlet should be cleared of any debris.
