This is a great documentary about the Brazil nut and about all the people involved in its harvest, especially the family that runs Hylea 1884. I will definitely be upping my consumption of Brazil nuts!

Very informative video. A problem I have with the presentation, is that it’s obvious, that the people who harvest and process these nuts, are obviously suffering poverty,, while these rich white folks fly over to inspect their labor force. What do They earn, in comparison? Seems to me, the value isn’t shared equitably. 🤷🏼‍♂️😔

Are the people that harvest them happy? That's the real question. And what are their other options? Better to harvest nuts or export cocaine? Is coke a better option? Just asking.

Those pods can also be used as a localized fuel alternative instead of firewood or exported as charcoal, Nutshells from the factory can also be reprocessed into a unique wood product for furniture thus increasing the product life cycle plus employing more people.

      Thank you for your comment.
We use the nut shells as an energy source for the Brazil nut factory.

@@HyleaSRL I think you can also crush the nut shells and produce, floor tiles, furniture...etc. There is a small company in Ghana that makes charcoal from coconut pods and exports it all over the world, I am sure the same can be done with the pods. Hopefully, someone invest in research. Do the shells have any unique smell?

if you want to show how much... you care about the life of this tree...make sure you plant a percentage of her children on the ground...and not only use them for gain and profit...

My favorite nut! Many health benefits! I wonder how many harvesters chop off fingers by accident

selenium does not exist in cracked brazil nuts in bags .. you must buy them and open them yourself to gain the necessary content of selenium.. .. it is a fragile element lost in already cracked nuts.. great docu otherwise .
