  • All credit goes to the amazing staff members over at the Bluecoats for creating such a kickass show this year.
    This is made 100% by ear and 100% by me. It is still early season so the show will get changed drastically in the coming weeks. Let me know what you think in the comments. To follow the progression of the score throughout the season with the inclusion of pit/battery, go to

    Damn, this is a really hard show, way harder than Downside Up. Of course the Bluecoats would be the ones to have 2nd Mellos playing consistent high Bb's in the ballad and 1st Mellos going up to high D's. Not to mention the insane trumpet parts and runs

    • @evxthegamer982

      Its called DCI for reason...

    • @ParanoiaKeepsMeWake
      @ParanoiaKeepsMeWake 6 років тому +8

      lordtacoz I concur only slightly. Downside Up musically was much more difficult. Upon hearing this I thought the same thing but if you critically analyze this compared to DSU, one realizes the mello runs are more difficult, the trumpets have harder features and solos, and the music is more cohesive and flows better. Drill wise however this show demolishes DSU. That's just my opinion as a Bloo fan. On a side note: frankly, in all honesty, the trumpet parts arent all that difficult, they have many artifical rhythmic groupings and runs, but anyone can play those with enough patience and diligence.

(im going into grade 12) am i having too much faith in us? we were 47 this year no clue how many next year, but we dont exactly have amazing players, as a whole we are still one of the top HS bands in the city doe, i wonder, we have some trumpets who could hit those parts and i could nail the tuba part on contrabass clarinet, but horn im not sure about if thats playable by us, our tbn section doesnt even exist, and the new grade 10s (band is 10-12) arnt amazing, euph could do it doe shes solid, and we have a couple good flutes and clarinets, so maybe this could work, be a huge challenge

    Maybe putting tenor clef for the baritone solo at Grow Till Tall will make it easier to read

    • @dillonreese3955
      @dillonreese3955  6 років тому

      Alex Easley I mean yes, that is true but if you know bass clef, then you should be able to pick out those notes pretty solidly.

    • @alexeasley4012
      @alexeasley4012 6 років тому

      Well the entire point of different clefs is that so people don't have to read ledger lines that high. A C in the middle of treble clef is a C is 4 spaces above the bass clef. So instead of having to count them out, people used different clefs to make it easier. Tenor clef being the most common for trombone/baritones/bassoon. And reading B and A all the way up there gets difficult, even for really skilled musicians

    • @dillonreese3955
      @dillonreese3955  6 років тому +1

      Alex Easley yeah I know all the theory behind it and stuff but I guess I’m just used to playing up there with 1st tbone in jazz and it seemed okay to me. Also, if people cannot read that high for bass clef, they probably wouldn’t understand or even know tenor clef since that is generally not taught for many high schoolers or middle schoolers which would be the main audience attracted to try and learn this music. But yeah, I totally understand that it would be a lot clearer in treble or tenor.

      For the type of glissando around 1:57, you just use the glissando from the "arpeggios & glissandos" tab. You can control the speed of the glissando by writing out the held note as a series of tied notes, as MuseScore starts the glissando on the last written note. For the trombone glissando around 6:12, you need to use the bend in the "articulations & ornaments" tab (it looks like an upwards swooping arrow with "full" written over it). After selecting the bend and placing it on the note, right-click the bend and select "bend properties." That will allow you to mess around with how much you want the pitch to bend and how fast it happens.

    Can anyone tell me what instrument is played at 00:40? It sounds really weird.

      Matthew Matousek sorry it wasn't notated in the UA-cam video but on the website, it is set up like this and its trumpets first 3 lines and then mellos next two, then 3 Bari/euphs then tuba then bass trombone at the end.

    You know instead of 15/8 it's probably 4/4, 7/8 right?

      And you forgot the subito crescendo at 2:38! C'mon, man, that's the best part.

      Jackson I think you forgot that musescore is not advanced enough to have crescendos work on held notes but yeah I would've but I couldn't. Also, I transcribed some of zomby woof before I even heard the show and that part is a phrase of 15/8 which is obviously going to be conducted in the way you mentioned but I just figured people would realize that.

      Dillon Reese Oh yeah..I use Musescore myself, I should’ve remembered that. 😅 Oh well, it has its limitations.

    Isn't there a low brass entrance at around 7:43 crescendo up to the big hit?

      Big Fat and proud if i wasnt hearing things, i could faintly hear a tenor octave play an Eb for 2 bars then an F for 2 bars with a slight crescendo into the the Bb chord, probably a euphonium or trombone, or some fancy marching band instrument i dont know the name of with about the same range
