Brandon Mugele I still have it, and I love it..... it is a 10, one of the very Best in my entire collection. Young Beretta has the Duty Finish Specialist fullsize and it is his #1 1911 handgun. Many viewers and Subscribers have picked one up and they all seem to be very pleased with their Dan Wesson Specialist. I have never heard of any complains at all. That has been our experience too. Hey beretta, remember that custom Kodiak I ordered? When I was actually placing the order for it, I requested the lower that this specialist had and I was told that they had discontinued them. I always wondered why. I think that this is possibly the best looking railed 1911 lower on the market. Considering picking one up myself before they all are harder to find. I have this exact same pistol. Mine is a blem model. I honestly could not find any flaw in the handgun even with the piece of paper showing a drawing of the pistol and where the 'flaw' is supposed to be.
~My SS TRP is the most expensive 1911 I presently own, however I do have the Dan Wesson Heritage or the Specialist 1911 (each in Stainless) targeted for sometime in 2020. ~I've been leaning towards trying 185 grain Ammo for my EDC 1911.
Das Piper That Ammo should work great in a Dan Wesson. The Specialist is a freaking 10 for sure. The Heritage is a Solid 8.5 that is Terrific too. I have both and I Love Both. I was afraid they were going to discontinue making the Heritage so I bout one 4 months ago. Video is coming on that, and it shot fantastic..... no disappointment and much less money to buy. Hey guys love ur vids. Dan Wessons are my favorite semi's. I've got the commander classic which is stunning. My initial interest was in your Specialist but after seeing the commander i changed my mind. Like the guys on the D. Wesson forum say, "once u get one more will follow," and i will be aquiring a Specialist soon. I have to slightly disagree about the mag quote however. IMO the Wilson ETM & Vickers (not the 47ds) mags are without a doubt the best 1911 mags followed by the Cobras. Most failures in 1911's are attributed to the mags as u know. And the guys at Wilson have figured it out. Pick up some ETM's and u'll see.
I have 2 DAN WESSON 10'S. A VBOB & a VALOR 5". Nev er had a single problem with either. Also, I previously owned a DAN WESSON CBOB & SILVERBACK, and they were perfect also. 6 months ago, I bought the SA TRP 6" in 10mm. It functioned perfectly BUT was not the equal of the DW' 10's. I sold the TRP to finance my CMMG BANSHEE 10mm. Now THERES a fun gun!
I have a Sigg Sauer stainless that I just got and I’ve been customizing it since out of the box all Wilson parts polished not too out there, but definitely a Texas barbecue gun in the end Stan Chen magwell new springs, left some of the other parts alone because it’s pretty much meaningless more or less, but Excellent gun all around but if you can afford it like I have a Springfield professional that I spent a lot of money on especially in the state of California everything is up charge but 1911 is where it’s at and I hope one day I get a hands on a Dan Wesson specialist. Those things are awesome especially one with the rail.
Mine looks great in my new diamond d chest rig with mag pouch and initials on the shoulder strap...gonna get bear prints on around the top too...you boys keep my 1911 addiction fed..wish you guys the best...Matt from ky
I'm late to comment but I'm thinking the 9mm version may be just as effective with ammo costing less. Never seen it before but there seems to be a lot of gun power build up on the muzzle. It's not a discredit to Wesson but I hope they did a mod to that after market Cobra Mag to stop the 'over insertion' problem by tossing that plastic bottom cap & fitting a solid metal cap/stop. What would be nice is to evaluate the accuracy with a laser mounted sight for fast target acquisition in dim lighting...next time eh? Not exactly cheap pistol but seems fair quality. Otherwise I like. Will talk to Santa (my wife) about getting one...hopefully before Christmas & prices soar!

Having experience with the stainless and the duty finish do you think the duty finish is worth the extra money? I live in the south and am wondering about the stainless holding up being sweated on over time.
You have to love the 1911 because, like a good revolver, this gun is an heirloom. It's entirely possible to keep one of these in good working order for the next thousand years still using 99% original parts. You could engrave the names of a hundred descendants on this gun before it catastrophically fails.

so glad you've done a video of this, I just bought and STI LAWMAN 4.0 and plan to buy a Dan Wesson Discretion in 9mm. I played with Discretion and found the slide to be buttery smooth ,my Lawman not so much keep the videos coming I'm interested in the comparison video 🖒🖒

Keanon Gilliam ah, gotcha. Yeah, that’s the Specialist Commander and the model I am looking at as well. Sometimes “carry” can also refer to a dehorned or “melted” gun so I wasn’t sure if maybe that’s what you meant.
love this gun. I've held it several times at my local store. I will be getting one soon (tax return). Dan wesson gets recomemded be all the guys behind the counter over les and Ed's. was thinking valor for more traditional look but like yall the rail makes the specialist look amazing. and yes that trigger is that good. I love my ppq m2 trigger but I know this will spoil me when I finally take ownership of one. keep up with the great reviews and look forward to an update of the 10 rounder and any other issues besides to over insertion issue you were having.

Good video guys. I have the full-size DW Valor in .45 and black "duty" coat. It cost about $300 more than the Specialist, but I absolutely love it!. I'm considering a DW V-Bob in .45 next for a possible concealed carry gun. I agree with you that the Cobra mags are the best, but I haven't tried the 10-rounder yet. I also own a DW Razorback in 10 mm and have experienced no problems in the 600 rounds I've put through it. Keep up the good work.
They are not worth the price they cost now. You can buy far better pistols for the price from Springfield Armory (Emissary or Operator model) or a custom 1911 from Les Baer Custom for the same amount of money.
Very nice gun. However in response to your comment on the weld on the back of the Dan Wesson and Wilson Combat magus the Tripp Research Cobramag has them 2 however I don't feel that it makes a bit of difference.

Yeah my favorite non custom 1911 out there. Not a fan of rails but to each there own heard about the issues with the ten's but they supposedly worked that out cause the Bruin is my next Dan Wesson.. Have seen where the Extended magazines have that problem of over travel and the plastic gets hung up on front of grip. Not sure how to fix that maybe shave down plastic a bit... good review..
Do you still think those Cobra mags are the best 1911 mags on the market?? I mean they are super awkward the way they sit at the bottom, plus it cracked because it got pushed a little too hard. Sorry but that’s no good. Wilson Combat mags in my opinion are the best. Aside from that, the gun is drop dead gorgeous. She is a beauty. Definitely on my top 2 guns next to buy.
Own the Valor love it ..... it did have to go back ... was not feeding. called them and took it back that day had it back in a few days ... customer service Outstanding!!! ( If Needed nice to they are there ) These guns get better with time . Absolutely Love it ... Like the cobra mags as well . Held off on the 10 round because it did not have a full sleeve . Dan Wesson makes the best dollar for dollar 1911 in my opinion. I'm not a fan of 1911s for defensive guns, but if I had to use one it would definitely be a Dan Wesson.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but is Beretta Sr. a law enforcement person ? If so, i am in the wrong business, unless as YT viewers, advertisers are paying for all these guns ?
Have you seen any peening of the slide stop notch? I heard reports of the slide stop notch getting chewed up from normal use, apparently Dan Wessons slide heat treat isn't that great. I wonder why they don't just insert a hardened dowel pin at that location to prevent any erosion. Perhaps they have fixed this issue already, have you experienced it with your specialist? Just do a google image search "dan wesson slide stop peening"
No I would not say that...... The Nighthawks are said to be excellent! That said, this Dan Wesson 1911 is half the price and I find it to be excellent too. The Dan Wesson's are $1500 to $2000 and the Nighthawks are like $2800 to almost $4800 I think. If money is not a problem, I would pick your favorite Nighthawk. If money is a major consideration, then look at these Dan Wesson 1911 pistols. Have a great Christmas! Beretta Sr.

Frank Napolitano I have both and both of them excellent firearms no doubt, but build, finish and control materials much better from DW no MIM parts at all. TRP have them. Really likeTRP bush ing less Bull Barrel. For some one TRP adjustable sights also a option. All magazines on both pistols works great: CMC Power 10, TRIPP Cobra, WC 500 Series also OEM magazines from factory.
Congrats on another great addition! I have a Dan Wesson Silverback in 10mm and have had no problems with at least 600 rounds through it. Looking at the Dan Wesson VBOB in 9mm next. Dan Wesson makes some fine hand guns. Looking forward to your les baer vs Dan Wesson video 👍

This was after C.Z. took over. Why did you not get 10 years ago? Dan was the grand son of Wesson of Smith & Wesson. They sold out in 1967 or 1968 But it was 1969 Dan started his own company. His dad and uncles got all the money. I am not sure how many brothers and sisters he had. But Dan Wesson's have been around from 1970's. I think at first he only made revolver's. Not sure of all the history but, he did work for his family business Smith & Wesson for a few years before the sale out. His children sold out to C.Z. ! Dan Wesson's were all custom gun's. Remember it takes lots of money to be more than local.
It's unfortunate that as firearm sales increase so do the prices, Especially quality firearms made by baer, wilson, and Wesson. I guess that's the way things go when it comes to money?

I have the Specialist and a VBOB Commander in the Duty Finish. I have a Valor full size in stainless along with an ECO with the Duty Finish. They all are fantastic pistols and shoot way better than I can.

I love my ppq m2 trigger but I know this will spoil me when I finally take ownership of one. keep up with the great reviews and look forward to an update of the 10 rounder and any other issues besides to over insertion issue you were having.

Good video guys. I have the full-size DW Valor in .45 and black "duty" coat. It cost about $300 more than the Specialist, but I absolutely love it!. I'm considering a DW V-Bob in .45 next for a possible concealed carry gun. I agree with you that the Cobra mags are the best, but I haven't tried the 10-rounder yet. I also own a DW Razorback in 10 mm and have experienced no problems in the 600 rounds I've put through it. Keep up the good work.

Dan Wesson is a great gun and far better then most.

so this video is a few years old and you mention the price at the end. today these guns retail 1825-2225. still worth those prices?
They are not worth the price they cost now. You can buy far better pistols for the price from Springfield Armory (Emissary or Operator model) or a custom 1911 from Les Baer Custom for the same amount of money.

Very nice gun. However in response to your comment on the weld on the back of the Dan Wesson and Wilson Combat magus the Tripp Research Cobramag has them 2 however I don't feel that it makes a bit of difference.

Yeah my favorite non custom 1911 out there. Not a fan of rails but to each there own heard about the issues with the ten's but they supposedly worked that out cause the Bruin is my next Dan Wesson.. Have seen where the Extended magazines have that problem of over travel and the plastic gets hung up on front of grip. Not sure how to fix that maybe shave down plastic a bit... good review..

Do you still think those Cobra mags are the best 1911 mags on the market?? I mean they are super awkward the way they sit at the bottom, plus it cracked because it got pushed a little too hard. Sorry but that’s no good. Wilson Combat mags in my opinion are the best. Aside from that, the gun is drop dead gorgeous. She is a beauty. Definitely on my top 2 guns next to buy.
Own the Valor love it ..... it did have to go back ... was not feeding. called them and took it back that day had it back in a few days ... customer service Outstanding!!! ( If Needed nice to they are there ) These guns get better with time . Absolutely Love it ... Like the cobra mags as well . Held off on the 10 round because it did not have a full sleeve . Dan Wesson makes the best dollar for dollar 1911 in my opinion.
I'm not a fan of 1911s for defensive guns, but if I had to use one it would definitely be a Dan Wesson.

Have you seen any peening of the slide stop notch? I heard reports of the slide stop notch getting chewed up from normal use, apparently Dan Wessons slide heat treat isn't that great. I wonder why they don't just insert a hardened dowel pin at that location to prevent any erosion. Perhaps they have fixed this issue already, have you experienced it with your specialist? Just do a google image search "dan wesson slide stop peening"

No I would not say that...... The Nighthawks are said to be excellent! That said, this Dan Wesson 1911 is half the price and I find it to be excellent too. The Dan Wesson's are $1500 to $2000 and the Nighthawks are like $2800 to almost $4800 I think. If money is not a problem, I would pick your favorite Nighthawk. If money is a major consideration, then look at these Dan Wesson 1911 pistols. Have a great Christmas! Beretta Sr.

Frank Napolitano I have both and both of them excellent firearms no doubt, but build, finish and control materials much better from DW no MIM parts at all. TRP have them. Really likeTRP bush ing less Bull Barrel. For some one TRP adjustable sights also a option. All magazines on both pistols works great:
CMC Power 10, TRIPP Cobra, WC 500 Series also OEM magazines from factory.

Congrats on another great addition! I have a Dan Wesson Silverback in 10mm and have had no problems with at least 600 rounds through it. Looking at the Dan Wesson VBOB in 9mm next. Dan Wesson makes some fine hand guns. Looking forward to your les baer vs Dan Wesson video 👍

Every time I shoot my Dan Wesson Specialist, it just gets better and better. (That seems to be the trend with all my Dan Wessons!)
Sean Hadley The Specialist is really a very nice Dan Wesson. One of the very best IMO. Also one of the most Reliable 1911 Pistols I have fired in more them 30 years of shooting. I love shooting all of the DW 1911’s that I own, but the Specialist seems like the Mac Daddy to me. 👍👊🤗

This was after C.Z. took over. Why did you not get 10 years ago? Dan was the grand son of Wesson of Smith & Wesson. They sold out in 1967 or 1968 But it was 1969 Dan started his own company. His dad and uncles got all the money. I am not sure how many brothers and sisters he had. But Dan Wesson's have been around from 1970's. I think at first he only made revolver's. Not sure of all the history but, he did work for his family business Smith & Wesson for a few years before the sale out. His children sold out to C.Z. ! Dan Wesson's were all custom gun's. Remember it takes lots of money to be more than local.
This is the best looking handgun ever made. Too bad they changed it for 2020. I wish I would have bought one when they had the full rail.

I have the Specialist and a VBOB Commander in the Duty Finish. I have a Valor full size in stainless along with an ECO with the Duty Finish. They all are fantastic pistols and shoot way better than I can.
Thanks for all the info..... I would like to add another DW 1911 ...... It will have to be in 2018. My Son and I have been building several AR15 type rifles the last 6 months. Your recommendation gives me confidence to pick up another Dan Wesson 1911.
