I just found this song today but DANG it hits me hard!! Im technically a third child (2 older, 1 young) but with there being such a big age gap between me and my older siblings i was always treated as a middle kid with all the responsibility of the older. They use to get in trouble a lot so there was a ton of pressure for me to do well and help out, but i was always the restless one. Id devour books and daydream about going off on "adventures". Even now with all my responsibility, college, work, relationships, I get this urge to just drop EVERYTHING and run off

"they were quick to recognize the devil in me" hits me the hardest. i am the second child, and where my older sister was calm, i was energetic and wild. a lot of the adults around me disliked me because of how "wild" i was. i distinctly remember my aunt hating me, always picking on me and ive turned into an adult with basically no will to live

this is an anthem to all second children. I'm 15 and ready to get out and see more of the world. I know this sounds weird but at this point I'm okay with being the second everything and the forgotten one and the restless one and the second important. it makes me independent and not rely on anyone

As a second child, who is most definitely restless (I have ADHD) and who did, in fact, grow up in a catholic influenced household, they did see the devil in me, and seeing as I can hear the world outside calling me, this song hit HARD
This song reminds me of the prodigal son, it would be his reasons for running away, "wishing well" would probably be about his regrets for leaving his father's house and "in memoriam" about him returning to his father's house

I'm the opposite of this. First child, never wanted free and wild and running away, always chosing safe and staying exactly where I am.
I'm also the oldest, but I'm treated a lot like your stereotypical middle child. I just can't wait to finally explore the world

i love how this album is a song series for the parable of the two sons, you guys make the most unique christian songs i have ever heard (especially by the lyrics because they are rare topics) and i am in love with you because of it!
This song describes me almost to the letter (only difference is I'm the oldest sibling haha). I've always wanted some good grand adventure, some fantastical opportunity. Im a fan of forests and ideal cottage lives and castles crawling with ivy. But I was taught as the oldest to be grounded and sensible, so those dreams got shot down real quick haha
Come to think of it, i too am a second child. I understand it. My older brother got to run while i was stuck. Besides the gender stereotypes, i was never really treated differently than my brother; but since he was older, he could run.
But i can run now, too! I need to stop thinking about things so much and get out before i get stuck for good. Cause I CAN hear the world outside calling me. I can hear it hanging on the wind, and i can feel it underneath my skin.

This song makes my heart feel full. I’m the baby of the family and I’ve always felt somewhat different from the rest of my family- mostly due to my differing interests, but I’m moving out of my shithole town into a dorm in a large city soon. This song gives me hope, especially the last lines.

Yeah, it's probably just a bunch of people whining in the comment section, self-identifying as 'forgotten' just because mommy and daddy weren't 110% as excited about their first day in primary school as their older sibling's. Most probably had a beautiful childhood with loving parents, but oh, they ran into a song on UA-cam, so that changes everything!
I don't know a single second (or middle) child that feels unloved, forgotten or unwanted. I myself am a firstborn, but my younger brother is mentally disabled, so it's not like I ever got more attention than he did. And we're both very happy with our parents.

I’m an only child, but I’ve always felt like how middle children did because my parents were always very busy. I had a few close friends who became close to “siblings”. We’ve stayed friends for years, and promised to put up with each other no matter what. Anyways, I was always a very “wild and free” type of kid. Never wanted to sit still, constantly wanting to cause trouble, craving attention, etc. This song just hits so close to home. I still love to run, and to push my limits as far as I can.
Finally found another only child - I've been looking through all the comments trying to find someone!! My parents were always busy too - it's weird feeling like you have a lot of attention and none at the same time lmao. I was a really restless, cheeky little kid as well, always up to something... :)

I am the oldest child in my family, but my parents have always payed more attention to my siblings, always favor them over me, and are always much more lenient with them, so I can relate to most “second children” I guess
I think it’s mainly because my brother (who’s the actual middle child) is literally perfect at everything. He gets good grades, is great at sports, is generally an obedient and good kid, and makes tons of friends no matter where he goes.

Same here! I think the song isn't specifically about the order the child was born, but like the one that is always the second option.
I'm the oldest out of me and my brother who is autistic and while I haven't necissarily been ignored, there have been nights where helping me with homework has been set aside to deal with meltdowns or I haven't been able to do something because it would mean he would have to be dragged along to something he wouldn't be able to do.
Cheers to any people with siblings who have special needs, it's a rough life that not many really think about and that sucks.

this song is a wonderful representation of the story of the prodigal son. i had always seen it as a reflection of myself, since i was also a second child eager for change and adventure, while my brother, the first child, exceeded everyone's expectations and seemed to need nothing.
but i was doing a bible study with some friends the other day, and we were all talking about the parable of the prodigal son and saying which brother we related to more. and true to the story, it seemed like most of the first children related to the older brother, who thought he was so much better than his brother since he didn't run away. while us second-born children felt more with the prodigal son, the second child, who rebelled against his father's best wishes and made a fool out of himself. (obviously this isn't EVERYone's experience lol, but it seems to be true more often than not.)
he did try to be a good son, but his wild spirit got the best of him. he succumbed to the adventurous promises of the world outside, even when he knew better. and it got him to the pig sty.
and i know that, because i've been there. i was that restless child, and i still am. but i'm learning to put that wild spirit to better use than i did before.

My dad was the youngest of six, my mother has an older brother I’ve never met, and I’m the older sibling to my little brother. I’m kind of in a strange reverse situation because I’m the only oldest sibling in the family of youngest siblings. Because of that, there is a definite bias towards my little brother that my parents don’t have the ability to see, or just refuse to see. It’s this somewhat ironic situation where I’m the one who’s overlooked instead. I may be the firstborn, but I can’t help but find this relatable. It’s just tiring sometimes.

Day 34 (?): this song reminds me a lot of my brother he moved out as soon as he turned 18 and never really showed emotion or affection even at our grandfathers funeral when he knew him better than I did. Yesterday he hugged me after I had a brief moment of paranoia and locked myself in the bathroom and I just???? It felt reassuring? I suppose. My mother always said he genuinely cares for me but I didn’t really know it?
