Great 2-part series. I've been riding Goldwings for 10+ years. The biggest complaint I have about the Wing, and really my only complaint, is tire cupping. They all do it. Tire pressure or tire manufacturer doesn't seem to matter. I'm told that a suspension upgrade will solve the issue, but I haven't done that yet. I ride mostly in the Blue Ridge mountains of NC, Tennessee & Virginia and I love accelerating through the curves, so that is likely a contributing factor in my tire wear. Best motorcycle ever made in my opinion regardless. Be safe!

Just bought one. 2003 with 10,563 kilometres on it. Will be delivered end of the week. It’s getting a complete brake and clutch flush and new tyres. I’ve just come off a BMW K1200LT. Can’t wait to feel how this machine rides. Mint condition and sparkling red colour and lots of chrome. 🤗🤗🤗

That is a beautiful motorcycle right there! Thanks for sharing. 15 years old and still looks and sounds brand new. I would love to own one.

Love Paul’s channel. I use Amsoil full syn. It does make a difference.

I really enjoyed your reviews. I recently bought a 2004 that looks almost identical to yours. I can't wait to get it on the road. It's getting a big mechanical going thru first.
Thank for quality documentation documenting the pros and cons...well done!!!

update. My wife and I took it on our trip out west last summer. Since our rv broke down in Colorado we spent over 1700 miles on our bike over 50 days. Only problem was one brought on by my own stupidity. I was thinking because of the higher elevation I should put hight test gasoline in it..wrong. It was stalling at low speed at stop lights. Spoke to a Honda dealer in Durango and when I told him the symptoms he paused and asked..what fuel did you put in it last. I said high test..he said..there's your problem... at higher elevations like in Colorado you want to put in regular obtain 87/88. Lesson learned. Thought I'd pass along for anyone else heading for the high country. After spending 170 plus miles on it with the wife I can truly say it is by far the most comfortable cruising bike ever. Great gas mileage and just an all around fun time on the road. Keep up with your great videos..this coming summer wife and I are headed to Nova Scotia...maybe see ya in your neck of the woods. Happy motoring!

I have a 2018 Goldwing and the bike speedometer and the GPS speed are quite close. Only about 2 mph difference at highway speed.

Another excellent video about the mighty goldwing.
I would agree with you on all points.
It does have it's downsides, but what vehicle doesn't.
Looking forward to a summer of goldwing riding.

Thanks for the comment! I'm also looking forward to a summer of riding. It was a balmy 7C here yesterday so I took my first spring ride and it was wonderful. Cheers!

I stopped using the speedometer and just use a Garmin Nuvi to show my GPS speed. My fork seal was weeping just like yours. There is a tool called Seal Mate to clean the debris out of the fork seal. I made one out of a plastic bottle and now no more weeping right fork.

Thanks for the comment. I too use my phone for the GPS speed. And thanks for your suggestion about the Seal Mate. I too had a homemade version a few years ago that saved me from changing fork seals on two bikes. I recently got an official version and unfortunately it didn't stop the leaks on the GL after many tries, so I guess I'll have to change the seals. Cheers!

Brilliant review very comprehensive thank you. I've got the 2022 DCT Tour but I love this style too. Got 7 gears on these new DCTs

Be careful of what oil you put in many have ant friction agents in them that will make your clutch slip! I'm running Rotella diesel T 6 5/40 in mine.

Thanks for the comment. I have heard some oils will make your clutch slip, but I've had no problems with the Motul I'm using. The gent Paul Short that I mentioned in the video was a Honda technician for years and he has been using that oil in his GL since he bought it in ~2002. Cheers!

I noticed after removing the ISO grips that your OEM handgrips are missing the weights they run about 30 USD from Honda.

Good eye! I bought a set of weights from Amazon shortly after that footage was recorded. Cheers!

Hi, May I ask where did you pick up the switched life feed for the USB port ?

    • @MakeFixEngineer
      @MakeFixEngineer  Рік тому +5

Hi. If you remove the front left glovebox pocket, there should be a two-wire harness in that area with an unused connector. It's for the Honda accessory 12V outlet, which can also be mounted in the left pocket. This feed is switched. I didn't have a matching connector so I cut the wires and soldered in the wires for my USB socket. Cheers!
