Most who even know his name, only think of "Cars"... He is so much more than that. A pioneer on many levels. Highly underrated. It's a crime. My opinion.
+D.E. Manning Can you elaborate please? I want to know more about his influence and legacy.
Couldn't have said it better!!! 😃👍🏼
Yup, I think of Gary Numan I think of berserker, down in the park, joe the waiter, bleed, the life machine, and magic. Other people who claim they know him are basics.
Agreed!!! 👌🏽
+Ruben Contreras Down in the park is one of my favorites, especially the remix from Cleopatra records by the title of, "Gothic: Vampires at Night." Yes, berserker is also my favorite, especially, "My Dying Machine."
I can't believe he can still sing and write like this at 60.
The man should be put in charge of the world's music production.
Numan is clearly in the future
I feel sad only knowing of Cars and Are Friends Electric my whole life. I’m rediscovering Gary Numan, and I’m gonna be honest here: I freakin love what I found!! Gary Numan RULES
same after discovering Meg Myers ,Trent's follower, I rediscovered Trent/ NIN and then rediscovered Gary to wind up here. way to go ,eh?
Same here. Love both Gary & Meg
@@richardsylvanus2717 you know whats funny? First month I discovered Meg Myers I was listening to her songs all month then checked out NIN and then from the NIN group rediscovered Gary. Now all three make up most of my listening. Something about Gary's darker side of darkness balances out Meg Myers lighter side organic with NIN in between. Just me riding the wave and look where it got me!
I discovered Gary Numan when I heard are friends electric on Need For Speed Carbon and thought Hear his other music and must say he’s a great musician can’t wait for more music from him I enjoyed his new song intruder
I’m 14 and went on a nostalgia trip on NFS Rivals today. Remember playing it 8 years ago. This song came on and gave me so many memories
Jeez, can`t believe I`ve been listening to Gary almost 40 years, and his newer shit is just blazing hot!
You have awesome taste, my friend
Another older person 👍 I bought his first vinyl after hearing it on the John Peel show, i think i was about 14? From memory I think that it was sping 1979 here in England.
And then you start thinking Shit Am I That Old lol
I’m 14 and went on a nostalgia trip on NFS Rivals today. Remember playing it 8 years ago. This song came on and gave me so many memories. I knew of some of his other songs too
i totally agree with you, like you i have followed him for years but his new stuff is another level, in my opinion it soooo much better
Gary Numan is just a fucking genius! He inspired generations of musicians and lot of them should pay the right tribute to him.
they will pay dearly
Most of them do, Trent Reznor practically worships Numan.
The guy can still sing... it's even better than the 80s... Most underrated
THAT is how it is done....Modern "Artists" take note. Mr Numan...We salute you.
Luved this guy in the 80's and just discovering his new stuff now. What a talent! Mega Super Star! Brilliant multi media genius!
Gary has my utmost respect for everything he's done, at the age of 56 he's still kicking ass more than a lot of other people out there how can you not like a song like this no matter how old you are, i'm 22 this is as up to date as it can be in my opinion..
I'm hoping to become his younger, 23-year-old self now at 53. Recently discovered electronic music production and If nothing else, it's a GREAT HOBBY! (Get Spire and Zebra, and blaze your own trail!)
Millenials always have to add their age.
you’re 27 now, how’s life treating you man
@@akiramenai4973 I recently purchased Omnisphere! It’s amazing and being able to turn my own voice into musical instruments is wonderful😀
@@jasonwhite-composer Omnisphere is great. But Zebra can do some awesome sounds that I find even better than much of what Omnisphere ships with. Obviously Omni is better overall, but both of them have some tricks that the other doesn't. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd probably stick with Zebra. Also the sounds Spire is capable of are just so amazingly awesome...so many of the factory presets really GRAB my attention, where so many of Omni's seem so worthless (to me). Way too many vocal derivatives, hang drums, kalimbas, etc.. Either way, the important thing is enjoying the magic of having musical ideas that you yourself find as good as or better than stuff people pay money for.
You can hear the roots of this in his 80's stuff, what a great direction for him to go, gothic industrial seems to suit for a label if one needs one for it. I saw Gary Numan live last year, in a small local music venue. The building is old, with original wooden floors that vibrate under you feet. You can FEEL the bass. This stuff is HARD live...and you can feel it to the core of your bones. Incredible. One of the better small venue shows I have ever been to.
I heard this song in Need For Speed Rivals and I got hooked on his music, love how he puts everything together, love this guy. 💯💯💯💯
Same bro
This guy riterally made a rock filling without a rock aspects
Same
Same
I didn't know much about Gary Numan, then I discovered him two days ago. Now I'm in total Gary Numan psychosis ;) I have been listening for all the songs I have missed out on nonstop while working, ordered Splinter yesterday. Totally in love, especially with his newer songs!
Reconnecting with this man's music after almost 30 years. Great Music! Loving it!
only became a fan recently... been missing out
poor kid :D
Victor P that is an amusing response
Me too... since only a few months ago. Wish I'd discovered him earlier.
Yes , yes you have been missing out . That is really sad .
I've also missed out BUT he is on tour and has quite the discography to 'discover'!
Been a fan since 1979 and I can say this guy only gets better with time. I just wish he would tour here in the US..... 36 years of listening and never had a chance to see him live...you are very luck to have him in the UK.
He now lives in LA
He's touring the US now!
Rr Rr in hope bthat you saw hi m . at first Ave in Minneapolis mn
Been living in L.A. since the end of 2012.
Ready Set Terrible...My thoughts exactly mate! 👍
So glad I have re-discovered Gary Numan! The last few albums are so, so good!
A 80´s starplayer reborn with this song :)
40 years I've been a fan, Down in the Park 1979- Are friends electric- Tubeway Army. Great to see him still out there. I tried to get backstage at his concert at the Apollo Theatre in Manchester, unfortunately, I was booted. Great artist!
Gary's new music is incredible
One thing about Gary Numan that hasn't changed since the late 70s -- he knows how to make a goddamn hook/chorus.
I was a massive fan of Gary Newman when I was just 10 years old !! Cars..... I was too young for earlier tubeway army, but at 10 years old in 1979 this was my introduction to a new sound & I've been hooked on music ever since.
This guy just breaks the mould, continuously !
Absolutely beautiful! Gary's best yet!!!
Other than Are 'Friends' Electric.....
He is a genius!!
I am so happy to have found this today. I was watching his "Cars" video and thought about what happened to him.... and WOW!!!!!! Going to see him in NY in May, I'm blown away!
Jay B. Johnson ...
We we're dust in a world
Of grim obsession.
We wouldn't taunt from mouth
Like an isolation.
We we're pulled from our path
Of least resistance.
And the songs we sang
What became of us?
We're here waiting for you
We're here waiting for you
We are yours
We're waiting for you
We are yours
We're waiting for you
We all pray for the end
For the god to take us.
We we're falling down
One by one.
We we're weak and the fear
Was all around us.
The machines screamed from
Moon to sun.
We're here waiting for you
We're here waiting for you
We are yours
We're waiting for you
We are yours
We were dust in a world of grim obsession. We were torn from our life of isolation.
Thank you!!!
Thanks 😊
Thanks
Maybe the greatest lyrics ever. Reminds me of Bradburys “And there will come soft rains”. The sad thing is how do you tell people who have sacrificed their souls on an altar of symbols while behind the symbols the source of all meaning WAS the soul they sacrificed before being caught in the prison of mirrors? It’s a dilemma I used to cry over, and if I didn’t have a faith upon which hub whole galaxies turn, then I would have been long dead myself.Long dead. But I am not dead. And that is enough to do what I was put here to do.
Go Gary!!!!! This track is bloody sick bro!!!! 👍🏼
Gary Numan is the Dr Who of music.
Loved his music in the early 80’s, saw him live back then, recently discovered his later music in 2024, confirming I am still, and always will be a “Numanoid” ❤❤❤ great work Gary…don’t ever give up or stop what you do best..!
Brilliant.great vid .great song..when is this genius gonna get some proper recognition for what hes done??
What aGuy..what a band…every song written by this man..love the new album
This is a really good song. Gary is really good in arrangements. I mean how how to build a song like this.
8 years ago? I thought this was something new.. Im really behind the times.. I have some catching up to do... I really like My Name is Ruin... Thats an awesome track..
Gary NEVER fails to bring us GREAT music, NEVER!!!!
Nice to see Mr Numan back on form after all this time - excellent track.
This is what I always hope for with a musician... that they build on their knowledge and skill to create something like this. He is a genius, and I feel so much love right now.
Hail Gary Numan !!! The Godfather of Electronic Music!!
Gary Numan is a fuckin pioneer....and still incredible decades later !!!!!
Caught his Savage Tour in LA. Genius. Prince was right about Gary Numan. Haven’t stopped playing his new music.
Absolute class. Saw him 2 night ago Royal Festival Hall. It was my 41st GN show!
That voice. What the hell...how does he do it. I can hardly understand how someone can be this creative, every song across his entire career is so consistently good (even David Bowie had some misses, I don't see them here!), his vision is constant, he never falters. He is not one of those musicians who is like, oh I ran out of ideas, lemme do a reggae album, when that is not who they even are. He truly is The Nu Man. Can't begin to imagine what one his shows must be like, with this devoted fanbase, every person is probably singing the lyrics with him, must be intense.
I just discovered him about a month ago and I am blown away. Where have you been all my life?
Gary,
I was with you when you started and I'm with you now! Love your music and Love your Style! You blow me away! Your music flows through me and vibrates my soul!
The most incredible voice!
Another great song of Gary Numan
I absolutely love it, Gary Numan sings from the heart and feels so much. He is a musical "god" and rocks!!! I love him XXXXXXX.
Fantastic he never aged
Saw him live many times , great gig every time x
Outstanding work Gary!!!
Man I just gotta wonder how many times it took to get that brilliant shot at 3:37, if that was first go then just...wow is all I can say. Beautiful wings of water.
absolutely awesome, loved Gary and the tubeway army from the start. he doesn't disappoint.
NEED FOR SPEED RIVALS : this song remember me my best times and bring so much memories back LOVE NEEDFORSPEED!!!🔥
He defines everything and touches the souls of many. He has no idea...... Beyond brilliant in my opinion....
I've always loved Gary's music!! He always original, sounds awesome live, has many styles & song choices, overall he's a legend!! Also he brings back some happy memories of younger days!!
Hope to see you soon another fantastic album from a wonderful talented mr Gary numan 💜
God I love his voice!!! Never stop Gary! The more I learn about you, the more I want. Stay ok?
Really stand-out track with all its Numan chord shifts & odd turns... He really knows how to bend & squeeze electronic textures wrapping around his beautiful songs... This one is superb modern writing & recording
simply stunning - Gary has opened up a whole new realm of music for me.
just discovered Mr Numan in 2021... such futuristic music.. where have i been?
Absolutely fantastic. Well done gary!!!!
Very impressive video.
Still a fan of this man
Gary Numan ... The king of Industrial rock! In concert his rhythms devastate ... and the bass is SO powerful you don't hear it, you FEEL it!
This is stunning! Easily the best video I've seen in the last 20 years and probably the best Gary has ever done (although there will always be a soft spot for "I Die: You Die")... Gary Numan, renaissance man, rock god and frickin genius!!!
Now I must watch. ; )
My thoughts exactly, sir!
Chris Corner of IAMX directed this video, so you have him to thank for the amazingly shot video.
I'm sorry, yes the clip and music are both fantastic but if this has been the best video you have seen in the last 20 years, there are a lot (really a lot and even more outside of the genre) of music video's you have missed sir. :)
Everytime I hear the guitar (or sample guitar part) I have to think of Antichrist Superstar from MM. Anyways, great song and I hope we can enjoy soon more of this :D
Beauty in the eye of the beholder, etc. This just grabs me. Great thing about this is that we all get to love what we love!!!
Thank you EZRA!
0:28 Okay, does anyone else think Gary looks way too much like Voldemort in this video? I can't unsee it
I have so much catching up to do with Gary Numan! I loved him in 1980, then I became a Metal Head and only listened to metal and hard rock for a long time. I had no idea Gary was making incredible music like this still! Damn. This is dark, atmospheric and heavy. I love it!!
Brillant video direction by Chris Corner (IAMX) for a brilliant song. Anytime Numan + Corner com together something genius is sure to come out of it. Now I just wish they would actually collaborate on some music.
Absolutely fantastic,I've been a fan since may 1979
This is awesome. He looks great when he comes out of the pool, not going to lie
Yeah, dat wuz purty secksy 😉
Great, powerful vocal, musical & visual moment !
Mind officially blown! Now I'll spend the next 3 hours picking up the pieces. Truly brilliant Gary!
Just love it when the chorus kicks in. ANTHEM!
Well done!! This has that classic feel of your old stuff but with a definite new inspiration. Love it.
Wow. This song and video is so compelling. Can't take my eyes off it
He's got beautiful eyes.
Ever time I see Sean Payton from the Saints, his eyes remind me of Gary's (without the eyeliner of course) :) Poor Gary, now he knows what all drywall sanders go through.
not to sound rude or a jerk, but even as a guy, im awestruck by his eyes as well. he s so not afraid to bear his soul and powerful voice/talent with all of us. so awesome. his daughter is beautiful as well and also has his eyes. in the i am ruin video her eyes are amazingly mesmerizing.
He wears an awful lot of makeup.
Whether that's a good things as a role model is up to you to decide.
He's obviously taken in a few vulnerable people here.
Bitch, you've got beautiful thighs,.
the legend of Numan lives on..he ran out of ideas in the nineties but gradually returned with a winning joy division and nine inch nails refrain..im seeing him soon in Norwich
The best comeback of any artist I can think of ! Back with a BANG !
If you can ever see him live, DO IT! I swear it is not to be missed.
For a long time I've been searching for something I cannot describe then I discovered GARY NUMAN
still is one of my favorites! Hats off to you Mr. Numan Hope the year 2019 is treating you and yours well!
The best, been here since 1979 still send shivers down the spine. Genius.
Fucking brilliant! This Industrial Metal direction he has taken is incredible!I bought the Splinter album the other week and I love it! PLEASE make a music video for Here In The Black next, that's the best song on the album!
Yeah, you're absolutely right, Here in the Black is simply amazing and warrants a video. The best song he's released in over a decade. Love the chorus. I wish he would make a remix that would include the chorus a few more times.
TheLemonKid01
Another vote here! Here in the Black clearly worthy of effort/attention. And ideal for professional video treatment, like I am Dust got here! (love the combination of imagery and sound-syncing. Beautifully timed slow-mos and pauses etc) But for those who can't wait for an official HitB vid, I did cobble together a fan edit. Far from perfect, but it is SOMETHING. Heh.
i just got 1228 active followers within a day from *instaPHAMOUS. com*
This is not Industrial Metal...
Nicholas Vladd I always thought of it as Electronic Industrial (I mean you can't say Gary without mentioning electronic music), but saying Industrial Metal isn't terribly far off...Industrial Rock is
more like it.
Legend! no extra words required
I have my tickets for the Denver show...hope Persia is with him. Love the new album.. He's always been there, just under the surface, but in the forefront of pioneers.
Been listening to Numan since the 70's, and this album is superb, a real surprise.........
Well, thanks Mr. Fitz :D
What scene of pll?
ppl 4x18
Un'italiana a cui piace Gary Numan? Molto molto raro.
GothikQueen omg that's exactly how I found this song and it's my favourite
SAME LOL
Gary is pretty old ... but hes not too dusty
Still pumpin out the best stuff ever
By this moment i believe gary to be the greatest of all time 80s was the future
OMG! Simply incredible.
Been listening to Numan since Tube Way Army.
I was in high school then.
You always come up with such brilliant costumes. I saw an interview where you said Depeche Mode re inspired you to start writing again. I'm glad, I like Depeche Mode too and I like the direction your music has taken. I got into future pop and lots of German industrial. German's are totally into the 80s sound and trying to do modern versions of 80s music, I've moved on from that. Still love the 80s stuff, still makes me wanna dance!
Great beat, song, music, lyrics.Youre simply the best Mr.Numan.Thank you so much
Damn. Gary Numan killin' it!
Love those synth sounds.
This is like the past Gary Numan but, darker and more disturbing.
Infinitely
Mr Numan , I salute you Sir. My first 7" was Are Friends Electric and you have been there, through the years . Watching the Splinter tour was without doubt the single best live gig of my life.
This video just cements your rightful place in music history as a Great, a Visionary and just all round top bloke.
Thank you.
Cause of death: Awesomeness from this video
Such a magnificent voice.
I don't know how to class his music style anymore but I likes... it's definitely a complete 180 to his 80s hit Cars ❤️
Gary Numan is sooo amazing, one in a billion.
LOVE THIS SONG 😍
Donna Mitchell Nice
Numan at his best. Video really encapsulates the feel of 'Splinter'. Like a good red wine...just keeps improving.
