Best of luck to you! It's not the same job as it was 25yrs ago when I first started. I'll tell you what my Dad told me upon graduating the academy:
"Your integrity is all you have. Without your integrity, you're NOTHING!"
I kept this with me my entire career!

The hardest part of ever working with the DOC, was the other officers. Think long and hard before taking up a career in corrections. my time with IDOC(indiana) was a terrible experience. Had a sgt that would come raid the dorm i was at, work everyone into a frenzy, then bail. and I'd have to deal with the aftermath alone with 110+ offenders(open dorm situation). Not to mention times when your relief doesn't show up so you get a cot in your LT's office as your sleep spot for a few hours then back to work, that's IF they let you leave the dorm to sleep at all. Even knowing all of this, my oldest is working in corrections now with several degrees.

But stuff like that goes on in ANY workplace, not just DOC. You'll always have "that" person. Why would you deny yourself a good career because of a few people like that?!? It must be beneficial if you allowed your oldest to take it....

I'm far too educated, highly paid and know too much about how NYC government agencies work to even think of doing this stupid shit. This is for GED heroes and the unemployed. Also I have no interest in being a prison drug dealer which is what a good portion of this job requires after a while.

Rewarding job im assuming but, comes with Pros and cons. Its not just a free ticket to the playoffs at, shea stadium you have to prepare for, everything that comes with the job. Times like this the Morale is an, issue but, still can be a beneficial job money wise mandatory Overtime is good and bad cause you can burnt out. Too me i think the job is average even though i havent work there yet.

"Want a career where you can serve your city with compassion, care and respect?"
Meanwhile the actual video looks like soldiers getting prepared for war. Yea, real community care right there.

Exactly. Glad someone said it. NYPD and DOC are two of my company's client accounts and after some of the shit I've seen I would never even *consider* putting on a uniform for a 3rd world toilet like New York City. I have way more pride than that.
