Rikers should’ve been shut down in the 90s. That jail is hell on earth and people don’t care because it’s a jail and it’s supposed to be tough. The punishment is going to jail not being in jail, youre already separated from society and now you have to deal with people slashing you, beating you up, robbing you, gangs taking advantage of you. It’s not right, we need to end this thing where we treat normal people who go to jail like animals. Before he got charged with a crime he was a normal person and treated fairly, now that he got caught with a gun he can die and they’ll say “well you shouldn’t have went to jail”. We should look at some countries in Europe and see how they treat their prisoners. They get treated like humans and act like humans, they have 0 to little crime in these prisons. Most of them never go back to prison either because they actually rehabilitate you, make you learn a skill where you can find a job when you get home.
Then don't go to jail and those things won't happen you want to go murder other little black dudes or little Spanish dudes rape woman children's slaching random people I pushing them on train murdering homeless attacking random victims with hammers axe then jail is ur new home its not happy place its not church a playground its jail got too deal with what you go urself involved
The things you complain about aren’t going to change just because the jail is not Rikers Island. The same gangs doing the beatings, shankings, and robbing are going to continue doing that wherever they go. Those issues are a people problem not a location problem. Also I love how the problem always revert back to you treat people like animals when in reality the violent offenders were acting like animals on the outside.

Let's use his strategy, and revisions,, though, as a benchmark against the previous director of corrections to see if Riker's is positively revolutionized. All I'm saying is give him a chance. Very rarely do officers get assaulted for no reason but it does happen. Most times the officers got it coming to them for a valid reasons,they act like legal gangsters.

The County of Los Angeles is closing Men's Central Jail. If I understand correctly there's 12000 inmates. There's no say on where the future nor current inmates would be headed within the County of Los Angeles.

What happened to mental health, protection for both the facility and inmate, staffing increase, monitoring both inmate and staff to make sure the appropriate conduct is enforce, programs ,money and housing opportunities to help the inmates become productive model citizens . Everybody in the system needs to know they are protected and in good hands but tough on crime and not harsh. The inmate are there for punishment not torture chamber and the ones getting tortured are black people. We are getting the brunt.
Haven't heard anything about drug and alcohol treatment. The main problem is there's too many people in one jail. Graterford, which closed in 2017, housed up to 800 men on one block. There's 400 cells, 200 on each side, with a Sgts office and catwalk in the middle, upstairs. I was in a reentry program on B block. It's a so called honor block. It houses alot of lifers. Years ago, 1980's, there was a lot of problems. In 1994 the prison was raised by the State police and the FBI. They found cell phones, cells that were carpeted, empty pizza boxes, hundreds of cartons of cigarettes and approximately $30,000 in cash. They sent 600 problematic inmates to different prisons. Basically they transferred most of the Muslims. Out in big yard there would be hundreds of Muslims marching, chanting, praying etc. When yard was over the Muslims wouldn't move until the eman gave the word. Robert "Nudie" Mims, eman, serving two life sentences for murder. He was a member of the Black Mafia in Philadelphia.

That's only the inmates that have girlfriends and family members sending them money. They're a lot of inmates who don't have that and have to eat what they're given. But I know they did the crime and they have to live with the consequences of those bad decisions.
