Swedens Finest - E3 - Per's insane 739HP Volvo 242 Sleeper
- The first thing that probably comes to your mind when you hear about a Volvo 242 is most likely an old Swedish car that some 17 year old got as his first car or an old couple, cruising calmly on Swedish roads.
In this case, it couldn't be more of the opposite. Per has taken this 242 and and in the 10+ years he has owned the car, he has transferred it to an insane hybrid sleeper. Check out the video for more information.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I agree, I should have recorded more engine/driveby sounds. I did not think of it when filming, my bad. I won't miss is in the upcoming episodes 😊.
HAZETA beautiful car 👌
What an absolutely stunning machine. She is positively gorgeous. I drive a swede myself (saab), so i have a real soft spot for builds like this. The Scandinavian cars are incredibly machines, and anyone who drives one, end up driving one indefinitely for the rest of life eternal lol. Love the blacked out steelies on this. and the super clean shaved look is oustanding 👌 Like a fine timepiece, it is both art and functional mechanical beauty 💯😍
Source some original mudflaps 😊
TBF you're making videos for car guys. You don't even need talking 11 minutes 51 seconds of car noises would have been just fine!
Cool video and even better car. In future car videos that you add subtitles to make the font size a few sizes larger. I don’t know I’m needing an eye exam so maybe it’s just me. Ya I wanted to hear the car but I really did like the video and appreciated the fact it went into some detail about the full build so much so that I possibly got some ideas that I might incorporate on an unknown future build (I also enjoy building sleeper type cars) so to me personally hearing it is cool but I appreciate the “build sheet” I guess.
Would have liked to have heard the engine at some point.
MsMsmak I’ll keep that in mind for future vids
Ja..
Sound here. ua-cam.com/video/WXhe05-z2xM/v-deo.html
You just saved me 6 minutes
@@atvheads Bless you.
Rule number one in the Scandinavian car community: If you see a Volvo with a roll cage, you better run!
nice to see a high hp volvo that has a volvo engine and isn't swapped to an ls or something
We have a shit ton of high hp volvo engines in Sweden
In sweden there is a fuck ton of high hp volvos with volvo engines xD
Incredible car. We would enjoy seeing it in action. The car didn't really get a chance to speak.
What a beautiful build! Never thought the brick cars could look that elegant. And that engine! ❤️❤️❤️! I like old Alfa Romeos, but my first car was a Volvo 244 2.3l , so I will always have a sweet spot for these cars.
They’re comfortable and indestructible, and believe me I tried 😁
All those "car lovers" on facebook or wherever you see those kinda guys post some lamborghini, ferraris, mclaren or paganis, where real car guys own this
You don't have to be able to build cars to love them, there's plenty of owners of Lambos etc that use them as they're intended to be used.
Looks awesome, I always liked this model, now I like it even more!
Måste ju låta folket höra va fan, typ hela poängen
Very nice this one, been following it on IG for a while, fun to see the guy behind the build!
video is nice and the volvo is beautiful, but...
we want hear the engine and see you overtake a Porsche on the freeway:)
This thing is amazing. My dad works at bilia and we just sold his 04- V70R. that thing flew. but i bet that it was nothing to this. Much love from the east neighbour🇫🇮❤️
It sort of looks like a sleeper, but I think it looks pretty badass and modified
The visible roll cage gives it away. If the roll cage would've followed the roof lines a bit more, man. Outside of the rims and shaved doors you might not see that badboy coming.
Sweet build my brother!
I had a 1979 262 Bertone Coupe with a 300 hp Chevy Camaro motor, Turbo 350C trans.
Looked stock with the original turbine wheels & the 4 rectangular headlights that was the U.S. front end. Silver paint & black vinyl top. What a great car. Should still have it but divorces don't give you what you want.
Btw, from Copenhagen originally.😉
this car is fkn amazing omg
Very clean and tidy build, love the (mostly) period exterior and no nonsense race interior. Great job!
great car and video, I am on my fourth Volvo 240 ,I was in the car sales business for some years, there were good and not so good cars and i always came back to Volvo 240's and even sold for Volvo Canada in the late 80's when lots of things were changing globally in the auto industry and still came back to 240's, the only other Volvo i liked was the 780 Bertone , finished in Italy and was a fantastic car, still not too many of even the newest models have the same fit and finish as they did, 240's are simple you love them or hate and simple to work on and are dead reliable, living in the centre of Canada we have some of the coldest winters in the world temperature wise -40 is not uncommon for us to have in winter or even colder with wind chill, and there is no there car that has cold starting reliability like 240's or the heat they produce and don't garage my cars and will start most times without plugging in the block heater, the swedes just tested the heck out of these cars before they went on the market, my daily driver is a 1989 240 DL with around 320k on the clock and engine is never been apart just the usual consumable items replaced, i still have original front shocks that i will change in the summer and still the factory fuel pump and that is the one item i have never replaced on any of my Volvos yet, time will tell and am currently planning out a restoration of my 1982 242 GLT with the rare
B23 E engine that only available in Canada and Europe, and looking to do a upgrade to EFI from mechanical injection and modern ECU for it, possibly Haltech time will tell, you can't find the old injection parts anymore, or do a 850 2.4 turbo conversion to it, the 4 speed o/d is great and can handle the power, great video 👍 🚘
The 4 speed from the 240s aw70 i believe or the aw55 from the 850s? How much can these handle?
Imagine sneaking your grandmother's Volvo out the garage just to crash it because it secretly has 700 hp 😂
Fint bygge och bra videoklipp! Vet någon vad det är för strålkastare?
Here in NZ we called them besides other things, The Flying Brick, 😂😂, why?, Cos they were frickin quick in there day,
Well done; great to see determination to keep these bricks performing.
As a GTI Clubsport owner (check my channel) & lover of car care, its wonderful to see the attention to detail you bring to this beauty! Its also wonderful to see how clean and tidy you keep everything in this video! Congratulations on some proper enthusiast work mate! 👍
Wow, this is so nice and clean, the work is immaculate. Great video, i didn't mind missing engine sound, it's hard to capture the real sound anyway.
Hybrid in the best sense.👍🏻
Great colour. Really nice car.
this is such a beautiful car
Grymt hög produktions kvalite! Riktigt bra video! :D
I like the swedish enthusiasm . :-) What a great car , clean and nice build ...I have seen these modified Volvo's long time ago in Zweden and they are fast ! I hope this build culture can continu in the future .... (only missed to see some performance of this car) but thanks for the nice movie.
Awsome build. I'd like to see this thing take out some exotics. 😴🤯☠
Underbart bygge och vackert filmat, bra reportage!
That watts link setup tho...
HAZETA Don't miss the trees for the forest.
This deserves much more views!
Big fan of the Volvo 240's use to have a 242 1978GT fun car, love what you did to the car would be fun to build a stroker 960 block just N/A
I love this car!!!
The Caliber of Engineering Workmanship and Detail is quite incredible and if you can not appreciate this build your not a true car enthusiast at all and just don’t get either. Here in the states you see the common mustangs Camaro ECT . Builds this is Fresh and Clean I would love to Roll out with this car . Excellent Job great 👍 Paint choice too for originality and Sleeper . who ever gave this a Thumbs down is a Hater and go troll someone else
Cool build. Nice stance, great power. Shes a ripper for sure. Neat video!
Skitsnyggt producerat och filmat!🔥💯
Keep uploading Swedish power 💯❤️💪🏼
Nice 1977 Volvonw8th older hubcaps and modern rims.
Vackert. Smakfullt. 🔥
I am surprised you did not go for the 242 GT grille, which would add to the car, basically the same lay out but a sporty look as to the signals , are you required to use the European style signals, half orange/ half clear, you can change the lens, I know I did when I had a 1981 244 GL, it looked awesome.
I love seeing "sleepers". I wonder how many people think you took your grandmas car for a ride.
Guardrail Well, the roll cage is a bit of a giveaway.
But there is a roll cage in it...even with cross brace!
I could tell at a distance of 800m that this thing must be stupid fast :D
Anyways...incredible build! Love it!!!
Fruktansvärt snygg!!!
Nice build you don't know what is just std car to most folk love it
👍👍👍😜🏴🦄🎣😁🤞✌️
Less prata mer kjørsel! Men bra Volvo!
It's not often but this is my fav video on UA-cam. The shots, the car, the colour grading, the whole video.
Great car, beautifully prepared and explained with typical Swedish modesty........
Had the privilege to line up next to this car multiple times last year att Emmaboda(not inte same class though). It is truly stunning and an aweseome build. Grymt bra!
My ‘76 Volvo 242 DL in dark blue would’ve been the best car I ever owned. All it would have needed is a 4 speed with overdrive transmission (mine was a 3 speed auto), a nice Volvo crank sunroof, the right side door rear view mirror and an engine like this one has. Btw, I put a $39 40 watt radio shack combo 7 band equalizer/amp, $80 dollar clarion 6 x 9’s in the back deck and a $299 Blaupunkt cassette deck in it and to this day, that was the best sounding stereo I’ve had in a car. That Volvo trunk somehow made it have really accurate bass. ( wow, I just realized I liked this car so much I posted 2 times on it)
Mine had 637 less horsepower and yet I still loved my 1976 242 DL. It was built like a tank. I would drive 25k miles a year, and so it ate exhaust parts, brakes, tires and power steering fluid., but nothing else. The odometer only worked when it was below 15 F outside, so I had no idea how many miles were on it. I suspect about 180,000 or so.
I used to dominate Forza Horizon in this exact car. Same color, same roll cage, same power output. I think it was my S1 Class car, can't remember, but it used to destroy all exotics. And the best thing about it? It was a Volvo 240!
the 200 series was an achievement by itself, grafting a white lock inline six is about the best improvement that can be done.
For a question of safety and ease to live with, I previligiate a NA stock engine but the overall thinking is about the same for my '81 242,
My question is about the engine supports and rubber cushions, I.d like to retain the OEM rubbers for silence and comfort, can you share the design of your engine supports.
very good video
Its simply BEAUTIFULL !!!
Perfectly done, beautiful build. #respect
Classic! A beautiful, subtle restomod. Stay safe👋🇬🇧
Brilliant! I do think, however, that an optimised B204FT engine would have been the better choice.
Great work, very nice. Does the Peugeot 407 wheels fit without spacers?
My grandfather have a blue one here in the philippines and when i turn 18 which is 4 month to go, I'm planning on restoring it cuz it was abandoned.
Good investment for another 25 years , she will still running ! Good power , enough power ! Caring , and always luv and beside you !
Färgen är grym. Nästa bygge televerksröd kombi!
Maybe it was me, but I could barely hear this video.
the first thing I do when I get my own garage is to go ahead and start working on my Volvo full time
It is super cool but not really a sleeper. It looks special, wheras a true sleeper should look like junk. It is still excellent work though.
im still trying to find a good 242 here in Queensland/ north NSW Australia. The struggle is real
Great job but his voice reminds me of Dr. Strangelove.
Not really a sleeper in the true sense of the word.
That roll-cage visible in the back window is a bit of a giveaway.
Nice.. had the same color on my 343 R-Sport
I've always loved the 240!
I wish Volvo still made those things!
Bad ass... AWESOME car!!!!
The film doesnt show it so well, but I think there are suggestions the thought and work gone into the cable and pipe routing is of a very high standard.
Luv the Round Lights... I had a Beige 1 with Round Lights here in Canada........ha
The only thing everyone wanted was noise and videos of you ragging it. But all we got was dissapointment!
Beautiful job. I’ve always loved the old Volvos and love the fact you tried to keep it looking as original as possible. Would love to see it running.
Nicely made video and nice Volvo! Greetings from Belgium.
I'm working on a "75 164 with 29K original!
Bra gjort!
I don't speak your language.
But it looks nice.
Talk softly and drive a monster.
What are the specs on this car it's lovely 💪😁👍
What wheels are they
Peugeot 407:sparewheels, widened at the rear from 7x17 to 9x17.
I bet that thing would be awesome at the Ultimate Street Car contest. At very lease would be an awesome sight to behold!
Beautiful build.
A wolf in sheep's clothing. Brilliant.
Sound here. ua-cam.com/video/WXhe05-z2xM/v-deo.html
Stunning project
Beautiful car!, will check out the channel.
Very clean Volvo 242! These cars are timeless imo. Peace
😍😍😍😍😍😍👍👏🏻
Snyggt jobbat.
Nice. The level of finesse in that engine room, Per is the real deal.
It comes with a pack of Siberia snus!
Very very very nice build. Indeed.
Really well build Volvo! Always loved the front end of these but hated the rear end :D Volvo has one of the best 5 cyl engines, same lvl with Audi's 5 cyl engines
