    Thank you Jerry for giving our Cross Braces a try! A nice add on for anyone who already has frame rails!

    Nice modification! As a former racing instructor: you probably need to drive smoother now that the car is stiffer overall. Miatas are pretty soft and compliant from the factory, so you’re used to using a lot of steering input to “chuck it in” to the corner. You’re driving it like a Miata but you gotta start driving it like it’s a more modern car, a stiffer car.

      One more data point, there's a UA-camr driving coach/time attack competitor that reviews cars and sets lap times here. Below is a link to his stock ND2 review and similarly he hustles the car to extract the times (check out his SS1LE vid, he's aggressive). Different tracks can require different techniques. At big tracks like Mosport, Watkins, or Road America, I'm def going for smoothness like you mentioned.
      Great comment, I really enjoy thinking about this stuff 👍

    Loosen your rear sway bar setting and you will grip a lot better.

      Good point, next season suspension tuning will be addressed first. Thx for the comment!

    Those are nice beefy brackets. I’m sure they’re all good but I will say that the kit I bought had the spacers included for oversized exhausts.
    *Make sure to mount the front brace to subframe BEFORE drilling holes for the rails! That way, everything lines up.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  2 місяці тому

      That's great that the kit includes spacers and for sure, measure twice, drill once 👍 Oh and by "subframe" presumably you mean floor. The subframes are the things the suspension, diff, and engine mount up to.
      Thx for the comment!

    Woah, this looks like a great part! I have the old FM braces that go with their discontinued butterfly brace, but it looks like these R-theory cross braces would work for my car without having the swap the frame rail braces! The backing plate with carriage bolts is clever too.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      Hey Alden, ya I'm quite certain they would work for your FM rails. But best to contact Rajan to confirm. As shown, its dimensional width sits exactly between the rails, and sits flat against the under floor sheet metal. I'm certain it'd work for you!

    • @mazdamiatafied
      @mazdamiatafied 2 місяці тому +1

      @@mostlyuselessgarage I see on the R Theory website that they've already confirmed the backing plates work with the current (v2) Flyin' Miata frame rail braces. As long as FM hasn't changed the bolt spacing I think it would all work, but I agree it would be smart to confirm. Thanks!

    Soften the rear coilovers and you'll be mint. If it doesn't solve, then softer rear sway bar.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      I actually softened the rear bar at the track that day, but I totally forgot to adjust the rear damping. Good suggestion!

  • @trahar6257
    @trahar6257 2 місяці тому +1

    As someone with zero track time I also think you may be undersprung considering all the numbers i see on other more track focused coilovers. I have the same coilovers but with the sport springs and after adjusting them 100 times actually edged up right where flying Miata said to set the adjustment knob. If you’re not already there I’d set them exactly where they say or one click harder. Also I only run 20 psi in my 205/50/15’s on the street 30 seems crazy high for a miata

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  2 місяці тому

      Interesting, I've never run hot tire pressures at 20psi before ... I'd be afraid of debeading them. True racers often use a pyrometer and probe across the tread after hot laps to measure even temp distribution, and adjust pressures. But that seems like a lotta work. I'd rather just throw money at the problem 😜

    Does seam welding help every car or is it a specific thing to either make, model, age, or some combo of all three? For reference, I recently solved my car situation by buying an 03 Accord coupe 6-6 with 68k miles but some body damage and a creature comfort issue or two.

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  Місяць тому

      I can't speak to every car benefiting from seam welding but in my experience with NA and NB Miatas it greatly improves the structure between the firewall and rear bulkhead. I think Flyin Miata's channel has a video that talks about the specific areas to reinforce if you're thinking about it.

      @@mostlyuselessgarage Really curious what it'd do to my Accord, but I really just gotta have a daily right now, lol. MF ain't even got good tires on it, let alone performance treads that are beneficially wide.

    Hey dude great video. Your undercarriage looks immaculate. Did you coat it in rust encapsulator or something? Looks like some kind of liner paint?

    • @mostlyuselessgarage
      @mostlyuselessgarage  2 місяці тому +1

      Canadians commonly undercoat/ rust-proof cars due to winter, and all dealerships push it for more $$. The original owner must have done that even tho it's never been winter driven. Thx!
