My 2005 Tundra oil pressure gauge responds exactly as you describe in your video. One quarter at idle and one half when accelerating. The reading is always within that range. I was concerned it was a low reading but thank you for your excellent clarification. Yes, the engine is the 4.7L with 132,000 miles. I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I change the oil myself and am careful to fill to exactly 6.5 quarts each time with a new filter.
Your videos have been extremely helpful to me and provide confidence that I am properly maintaining a great vehicle. This is my third Toyota truck plus I owned a Sienna (a great truck substitute) and all have been stellar, relatively easy to maintain and have had minimal depreciation compared to other vehicles I have owned.
Please do continue to produce your videos. I'll be a constant viewer. If I was located near your shop you would have a customer for life.

I have a question for you. So you say the oil gauge on your Toyota drops fairly low down but in the safe range while idling but moved back up near the middle when the accelerator is pushed. I understand that... but now my 08 5.7 Tundra is doing exactly what I saw in this video with the oil pressure gauge... however it never did that for the first fourteen years it's just been doing it for 2 years now.. so for 14 years stop-and-go traffic idling accelerating the oil pressure gauge always stayed near the middle now all of a sudden the last two years intermittently at idle it'll drop way down and then when I accelerate it comes back up. What do you think?

This 1st gen engine is very reliable and will last a long time. Solid cast iron block and it just runs! Only major reported issues with 1st gen Sequoia is leaking exhaust manifold welds, low ball joints after 200k, and a couple others. But as long as you do those and all regular maintenance like timing belt & oil changes, you could probably get 500k plus. Some people call it the million mile engine for a reason.

I believe the 2uz oil pressure can be as low as 6psi at idle and still be within specs. I think this was done to help conserve gas. There are oil pumps that are modified to change the pressure by shimming as well as porting the oil pump passages. It’s popular in the hi performance 1uz community

My 2006 Tundra Oil pressure stay at the half mark consistently regardless if I'm reving or not. My uncle tundra stay at the 3/4 mark consistently regardless rather he's reving or not too.
So i don't know why some tundra oil pressure go up and down as you rev, while some like mine have a consistently equal pressure regardless of reving or not.
I have question Toyota dealerships mechanic about this too while i was in for service and they told me that my truck oil pressure was running fine too.
But in this video he said is fine and ok. Is so confusing but as long as they say my truck is good then ill take their word for it.

I'm late with my reply but from what I've learned by way of researching the issue is that the oil pressure sensor switch on these Toyota 4.7L engines are prone to fail and cause a false low pressure reading.
I have the same issue with my Tundra and just haven't got arround to addressing it but plan on ordering a relpacment sensor soon.

Why was the oil pressure fine for 25k miles on my older Tundra but then one day decided to do that?

This happens in my 2014 Tundra in tow mode at idle.

Have you worked on a 2008 Toyota Tundra 4.7 ? Oil light fluctuating a little above half, and heard a small wine when engine start and drive but in 20 mins on road it went away. Sound like anything you ever heard of?? Thanks

Peter have you ever seen the VSC TRAC and Trac Off lights on without the engine light on on the 1st Gen Sequoia or Tundra? I cant seem to find any reliable info on that. Best I can find is the Yaw sensor or Steering sensor possibly being faulty.
