Bryan, thanks for all your amazing videos on Mauritius, which have collectively persuaded me to emigrate from the UK to the island later this year. This particular video on Curepipe (and one or two others) has persuaded me to check out Curepipe as a place to live. I've just emailed some friends a link to this video, saying you must be the happiest videomaker on YT (not forgetting the cheery Riki!) Memorable quotes: "Wow, a spiral staircase!!!" "So many people selling goods along this street. I don't know what this woman's selling. Brilliant!!!" Keep up the outstanding work! Mike Buchanan JUSTICE FOR MEN & BOYS
Welcome to my hometown. Being at curepipe and NOT setting foot at Trou Aux Cerfs is like going to London and not seeing the Big Ben.😂😂😂👍was a nice video.
My cousin who was a laureate in the 60's at the Royal College in Curepipe was offered a scholarship to study at a university in Scotland and after graduating and living there for decades came back to Mauritius as a university professor and was employed by the Royal college to teach classical subjects. I remember as a teenager when most kids were reading Comics my cousin was reading books in the Greek (classical) language.
Many thanks for a great tour of curepipe. You were very lucky with the weather. It usually rains. One of the wettest towns in Mauritius 🇲🇺. Stay safe and take care. 🙂 Steve 🤗. 🇬🇧 UK.
It was so great to see how the local public responded when you walked into the market. Keep these coming, its great for Mauritius Tourism. We can share this stuff with out 63 000 followers on Facebook once they come back to dive with us.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for shooting my favorite Mauritian city. Believe it or not I love this city for it's cool weather and also it's Mauritius' 2nd business city. It reminds me a lot Rose Hill (commercial galleries, transport hub, lots of colleges, sweet City Hall, great parks Balfour/Ebene vs Botanical Gardens) but with a bigger central market I love your historical anecdotes for even being Mauritian I tend to forget some of those stories. You may find local books explaining the names of Mauritius' cities / neighborhoods like Candos, Beau Séjour, Trefles, etc.
It is funny that you should say this, when I was a teenager (2000s) I loved Rose Hill and absolutely disliked Curepipe. As a grown up I came to realise the error of my ways: I had a negative opinion of Curepipe because all I knew of it was the unglamorous area around Royal College Curepipe. Now I have explored a lot more parts of the town and can see it has got a lot in its favour. Some neighbourhoods are quite leafy, posh and peaceful.
Was a student at the Royal College of Curepipe and this video brought a smile on my face. Unfortunately, you were not able to fully visit this great building... Thank you for showing my college Bryan.
Royal college curepipe is widely referenced as one of the best all-boys high school in Mauritius. The school has high admissions standards, and is known for producing a high number of ‘laureates’ (high-performing students at A-Levels who are awarded a scholarship for foreign tertiary studies) identical to queen Elisabeth college in Rose Hill and RC in Port Louis.. This market is indeed a unique one. Never been there.
Went there. The college is not quite as you would expect from a star college (soon academic) Back in my days when you came to RCC, the teachers expected you to already know everything. So they came in class, if you know you know otherwise just too bad for you. Teachers came to school only for the salary and gave most attention to kids that attended their tuition. Most Laureates over there learned by themselves, no help from teachers whatsoever. So the college merits 100% ZERO credits for the success of their students.
@@ivegotkids8455 Thank you for echoing my own thoughts with such precision. Also attended RCC and had the same experience as you described. The teachers at RCC are mostly there thanks to good political backing, which enables them to have an easy job of working with pupils hand-picked from the top 5-10% of primary school pupils. Many of them will get annoyed at you even in Form I (Grade 7 now) for not knowing things they are supposed to be covering.
Good one guys. We have family and friends in Curpipe so have visited often. There are some amazing buildings there like the concrete market. That one certainly devides opinion!. If you go back check out the botanical gardens and lovely colonial houses around the same area..
I actually attended Royal College Curepipe for 7 years. The terrible Curepipe weather gave me all sorts of headaches, colds and diseases, particularly in my first year of school. Definitely makes attending school in that town extremely unpleasant at times. The area around the school isn't the most interesting either: you have to venture out further. Chateauneuf street has got some nice little shops and cobbled pavements (quite wide by Mauritian standards). The park near the town hall is good to relax. Finally there are some decent residential areas particularly to the west of Royal College Curepipe, heading into the direction of Trou aux Cerfs, Intermart and the Botanical Garden.
That building with the scissors was not a hair dresser. It was tailors called Laurent. I am was born in Curepipe I immigrated to the UK in 1965, love your videos but you need to do more research.
Ho my god my contry is a paradise my dreem is live in my contry but ihave no money wath can I do help me i miss my contry the food the see the wahrver ho my god my mother land

@@BryanDiscoversWorld Was there back in the 90's, only memory of it was that it was in the middle of the island and there was an old volcano you could look down into.

Our pleasure! The weather was unusaully perfect
I was there for 7 years as a pupil and have lost track of the number of times I cursed the British for building a school in such a wretched area 😋
It's great to see people like you who love life and people so much..😍
Thanks
Reminder set. Im looking forward to the premier.
Should be great

That was not a hairdresser opposite the Royal College. It was Chez Laurent (Taylors), hence the scissors.

you miss the famous Botanical garden & Trou Au Cerfs craters in Curepipe :))
We did a whole video on Trou Aux Cerfs, but the gardens were closed
Curepipe used to be a posh area during the French colony and is still ❤️💙💛💚🇲🇺

please could you make a video next time on THE GYMKHANA CLUB a vacoas? there is a golf course there and also something else I believe.
