Great looking pen. The finish on the Chaos pen along with the design of it is wonderful. Having the finish and the wood looks like a fresh new basketball court. Thank you
Thank you Adam,
It does kind of look like a basket ball court.
Regards,
Bob
That’s a really good looking pen, Bob. It almost looks like lines on a basketball court.
LOL, your the second person to say that. 😃
Amazing pen Bob and a great piece of turning when you didn't have the right bushes.
I have tried doing that as well with varying degrees of success.
Great video Bob and hope you and your family had a great Christmas.
Take care.
Cheers, Huw
Thank you and Merry Christmas Huw.

Bob
Beautiful pen, as always. I have made the Vertex click pens and love the feel. The hexagonal shape really fits well in the three fingers of the hand when writing. Love how you continue to experiment with chaos blank building. So many interesting designs. I notice a scroll saw in the background of your shop and wonder if you are active in that area of woodworking. I have been enjoying scrolling for about two years now as just another aspect of my hobby. Blessings, Glen
I Occasionally do intarsia.

Very good video as usual. Do enjoy your casualness. OK, enough with the smiley stuff...
On with my questions. I have just started thinking of making some pens. Looking as hard as I can, I can't find any kind of fine-tipped markers. I am an artist of sorts so use markers for my drawings, the finer the better. Since "roller-balls" are provided and fountain pens too..why not markers?
wood is my favorite art form but I'm branching out into plastics (?) resins, acrylics, or whatever you call the mono-color stuff you use on pens that is not wood, metal, glass,etc... I think pipe stems also use this kind of material. Pen or pipe sizes are not the size I need. Something 2-4 times the pen-turning size would be good.
I don't wish to purchase a lot of stuff to make my own "plastic" pieces but rather would like to know where to purchase.
I would be so happy if you can help me get info on this... my search is turning in to a several month endeavor and I'd like to get started turning on either project. Thanks much! sw
Hello,
I don’t know of any company that sells fine markers for artists. That may be just to specialized for the pen making market. You can make a casing and place your marker inserts into it, I’ve done that for sharpies as they don’t sell sharpie kits either and I use the heck out of them in the shop.
The material you are looking for I believe
Is called Ebonite. I don’t know of anyone who sells it as I haven’t purchased any to this point.
A quick search on eBay for ebonite rod shows it for sale and you can buy as little as one rod at a time in many colors.

Bob
Digging the chaos blanks Bobby B. If I sent you blanks, would you make them into a pen for me?
Thank you Joshua,
I don’t take commissions. There’s not enough shop time and they keep me from working on the things I really want to work on when I do get out there.
Regards,
Bob
Nice pen as always. You didn't show how you use the calipers to get the .40" using the oversize bushings. I've done it but always interested in doing it a better way. More than one way to skin a cat as they say.
Thank you Dwight,
I need to make a video where I turn using only calipers, no bushings.

Bob

Thank you Henry.

I notice that you often have some problems when working with end grain turns why wouldn't you first do a stabilize to the blank. It seems like once you stabilize it, it would be stronger and not chip out.
I don’t have the ability to stabilize and I’m not sure that would help. When you turn against the grain it lifts and can tear out.

Bob
😍
Thank you Jenny.
