I thought this is one of your best video tutorials. I took notes as you spoke & it all really resonated. 1: proportions - big over slim or opposite. Contrast the proportions 2: optical illusion using patterns or colour blocking to add height or distract the eye 3: know your best & worst parts. Play the best up, distract from the worst. An A line is flattering to most people 4: wear your coat open but cinch it in at waist with a belt to create a column under the coat but defined at waist. 5: use belts. Defines the waist. 6: size UP. It looks best. 7: have some go to pieces in your wardrobe for bad mornings. Wrap dresses eg. 8: regularly evaluate the wardrobe pieces. Fit,style, condition and whether they still feel like your style. 9: choose good undergarments that won’t show but work to create shape & smooth. 10: master the art of layering by taking pictures on your phone in front of a full length mirror while playing with your clothing 11: understand fabric. Lighter softer drapey fabrics are more flattering. Natural fabrics hang better on the body 12: use jewelry to guide the eye or distract. Eg statement earrings or necklace 13: proportions of handbag & how it hangs are important. 14: care for your garments clean, press or steam, use a sweater shaver for bobbles and get it tailored to suit you better 15: have a polished skincare and hair care routine. Keep it simple and keep it up. I’d add a basic simple every day makeup routine that you can do in the dark or in a taxi. All very good. The thing I would add is to think about a core capsule each season of the boring basics. Making sure that the neutral classics are there and in good shape to act as the background for the seasonal “stars”.
Such a great tip; Having that 'go-to' outfit you can throw on and walk out the door in, for those days when NOTHING YOU PUT ON feels right. Thank you, Josie!
You are one of the few youtubers who actually care about inspiring and helping your viewers, rather than just advertising products. Thank you so so much for all your hard work, it's really appreciated ❤️❤️
I love that jumper your wearing. Your style us always so flawless and beautiful. These tips really help me a lot. My style has evolved thanks to you. Thanks for the video Josie!!
Thank you for those tips. I am so glad you said that about tight dresses. Lately in Boston (MA USA), the local weather, traffic and anchor women are wearing body contouring dresses. I get so put off by it, last night I yelled through the entire weather report. These dresses are so skin tight, they leave nothing to the imagination and they look cheap and tacky. I can't even believe women in Boston would do this. Maybe they are forced to wear this stuff by the executives, but honestly, they look like low lifes or Call girls. Thank you again and you always look beautiful and stylish and classic. Love that printed dress that is your current obsession.
Haha I agree! And it's so refreshing to see someone like you who is conscious of not hurting other people's feelings by using harsh words like "fat" "horrible" "ugly" etc in a world where people seem to wear their "honesty" as a badge of honour 💕💕
Josie, could you possibly do a steamer tutorial? I have the same Philips handheld steamer as you, but I just can’t seem to make it do a great job. I’m sure it’s user error so would love to see how you do it! Thanks x
Great tips! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I love the idea of having “go to” outfits for those days you just need to get dressed without a lot of thought! Take care Josie!!
The belt pulled tight OVER the coat ONLY works if you have a slender waist. I have a thick waist and NEVER use belts as it draws attention to that area and does NOT make me look more slender!. With large 'boobage'/poitrine, (even after 2 reduction mammoplasties), I DO wear V-necks as that helps diminish that area, simply making it more balanced. Fabulous tip to wear voluminous EITHER on top OR on bottom, Paired with tight at the other end! VERY flattering!
What a fab vlog thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I love watching your vlogs . Could you do a shopping trip and outfit try on with your mum to give us older viewers ideas especially for Christmas coming up . Yes!! I was thinking something similar. I am 53 so si would like to know how to take the appropriate elements of this style with me into the future. Please, Josie??
You are so right on when it comes to Shapeware. I think you are the only blogger that I myself follow that has talked about how important Shapeware is. As always you rock 🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️🙋♀️
This is my favorite channel! This video paraphrases pieces of useful advice I have heard through the years but adds new practical details and really is just the most concise guide ever. I know this is a retro request in the digital realm but please write a book! 🧡
Glad you are willing to talk about undergarments. I find that a lot of women that I work with don't really know much about proper undergarments. Most likely because people don't openly talk about it.
Hi Josie, very useful video. Thank you. I do love the idea of taking photos of outfits. I am a visual person so trying these techniques and taking photos will help me see what works best. You are truly inspiring! Hugs!
Josie, you look STUNNING in that wrap dress. Wow. (I'd be obsessed with it also if I looked that good). And it's a beautiful cut and details (cuffs). Again; a bit of a challenge to wear if one is thick through the waist.
Thank you again, very helpful information. I find that your style and clothing advice transcends age and the pieces can be modified to fit a personal style or shape. I really enjoy your videos, tips, travel, skin care. Your autumn videos are one of my favorites. You've inspired my outfits :)
Hi Josie I feel as though you read my mind!! I was thinking today I would like some of the very tips you mentioned. So, thank you. I am a firm believer in shapewear. It's not just the size as much as just smoothing out bumps and reducing VPLs. I am such a fan of the DVF wrap dress. I have ten (10), yes TEN (!) of her dresses. They are like magic. I don't know how, but they just hide all my flaws and highlight all my positives. So I am so glad you mentioned them. No one, but no one does a wrap dress like DVF!! She is in a league of her own. She is the ultimate in this form of clothing and that is her iconic legacy. Since watching your videos over the last year, I have gradually switched to lighter clothes, with solid colours and I do think they are more flattering. I also have narrowed my colours down to blush, grey, white, burgundy and a flash of red. I find with each new item I introduce - be it a top, skirt, shoes or a bag - it goes with at least five other items in my existing wardrobe. So I get so much more wear out of adding one item. I used to be a bit scattered and experimented a bit too much with colours and patterns. However, after watching your style, I am now a lot more focussed and I can definitely see the versatility of sticking to a specific palette. Thanks for sharing all these really thoughtful tips.
One of your best videos yet! I especially love the tip about shape wear and wearing the right undergarments in general. It is something other people can't see but the right underwear makes such a difference! Also, I only have nude bras and underpants because I don't ever want them to be see through. I don't care that they are not so pretty or sexy. But wearing them underneath my clothes does make me feel pretty.
Another great video :) I've just picked up three bags from Catwalk Club to use during my two-week stay in London, so pleased! Thank you for the recommendation!
Hi darlings! Happy Sunday! A strange upload time as I'm in Palm Springs and on a different time zone! Hope you enjoy these outfit hacks!! ALSO EXCITING NEWS! I'm hosting a style evening with Ted Baker, on the 10th October! Sign up here to come along too! @t xxx

Really liked all of your advice. I have a list of things to do. On this list is go through my clothes closet. It is much needed and much ignored. I keep adding items, but never throw something out. Will be taking care of that in the weeks ahead.
You do a great job and you practice what you preach! It must be hard to keep coming up with ideas for videos! We are getting cooler rainy days now-so maybe how to stay dry and look good on rainy days! How to keep your hair looking good in the humidity without putting it up or back!(. I look horrible with my hair pulled back or up! I’m one of those people that need hair around their face!)
I agree with all your tips! My weakness if evaluating my wardrobe and taking out pieces I no longer wear. My age is to a point where i need to evaluate some of my styling choices too! ❤️

Xena SS Light - yes!! That is the one downside. Also, with wrap dresses, I have pins holding the front in place so it doesn't show too much cleavage. However, I figure that is private and no one knows what I am up to. I do think the extra effort pays off in the overall look of the outfit. I wear the bodysuit as it covers everything and gives a smoother line so EVERYTHING has to come off! Ah, the joys of being a woman!!
