- In this video, I will let you in on one of the best kept banking secrets in Mexico for foreigners and tourists, alike; you CAN open a bank account in Mexico without having an RFC or even being a resident or a citizen of the country.
After a recent visit to this bank [to confirm the validity of the info in this video], I will let you know all the paperwork that the manager of the bank informed me that would be needed for a tourist to open an account with them; as well as let you know what the follow up procedures will be after your initial appointment to get everything set up.

Oh wow! Thank you so much 🥳
You’re very welcome! 😊
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Don’t forget to report it to the IRS, if you don’t the fines are ridiculous.
Do you need proof of address even if you have a Mexican passport?
Hi @longterm1841 Yep. For most banking applications in Mexico, you will need to provide a recent Mexican proof of address. (Even if you have a Mexican passport.)

The exchange rate is at 16.5 as of today. Do you get a better rate when transferring from USD to MXN?
Hi Sasha. It depends on the bank and/or ATM you use. We prefer to use our bank from the US to acquire pesos when we need cash, as it gives a better exchange rate. Also paying in pesos when using a credit card (opposed to paying in USD) also gives a better rate. I hope that helps!
Can one transfer money into this bank acct you mentioned from a U.S. acct to this one you mentioned in particular??
Hi Rosa. Yes. I have transferred money from US bank accounts to this account with Intercam, no problem. The first transfer took a few extra days but subsequent transfers were received quicker. I hope that helps!

Hello , I've seen all of your videos. I'm still confused though. I'm an American citizen, married to a Mexican citizen. We got married in USA. I'm moving permanently to Mexico next year , 2024 around April or so. Now I have a question for you. You stated I can apply in Mexico under the Family unity, correct ? But here's where I'm confused. I'm still in California, which application do I fill out for the consulate, and will it be for temporary or permanent since I'm moving indefinitely to Mexico. Does my husband need to go with me to the consulate in California. ? When I get to Mexico does my husband have to fill out a form on my behalf then apply under Family unity there ? That's where I'm stuck. Or could I bypass the consulate altogether abd enter Mexico under a visitor visa. Honestly I don't know the difference between a visitor visa and a tourist visa.
Thanks in advance.
Confused in California.
Hey Maritza! I hope everything is going well with your moving preparations; April will be here before you know it!! That's pretty exciting. 😊 And you have lots of great questions! It would be a lot for me to type out; but I will be making a video soon on my entire process from tourist to permanent resident [via marriage]; that you may find most beneficial. Also, starting next month, I will be offering personalized consultations and immigration assistance if you think that would be more helpful to walk you through it one-on-one.
Being married to a Mexican Citizen though, you qualify to skip the consulate and apply straight for residency at an INM office in Mexico; without the need for a consulate in the States.
