I've seen this movie ten times....recently I am on a Buddy Holly kick. Two things I noticed for the first time: 1. The shot of Brian Epstein walking toward the record rack and blatently displayed is the Chirping Crickets "blue sky" album with the 4 man group shot with Buddy and the boys holding two Fender Strats. That pic I recently learned from Dion was taken in Brooklyn on the roof of the Fox Theater. And 2. When Epstein walked into the Cavern Club to see the Beatles for the first time they are playing "Love Is Strange" Mickey and Sylvias song covered by Buddy Holly as a demo! You know but for those who dont, The Brits and the Beatles were HUGE fans of Buddy and the Crickets. Crickets were going to be Beetles but Buddy squashed that idea pardon the expression. So when Buddy died John re names his band from the Quarrymen to the Silver Beetles then Beatles with an A. And the rest is history!
All true. Except John wouldn't have known about a Holly version of LIS. Probably inspired by the Lonnie Donegan version (1962)
Also Stu Sutcliffe, John's mate (and original fifth Beatle) suggested the name.

The guy who does the Magical Mystery tour bus trips in Liverpool was actually in this film, so he does know what he is taking about when you are on the tour of Beatles sites, thoroughly recommend it.

I think it's a nice portrayal of something for which no actual record exists but which many a Beatles fan has probably tried to envision in the mind's eye. Really, it comes down to whether or not it meshes with the imagination of an individual. The one thing that doesn't ring true for me is Brian's rather upbeat demeanor. I have always pictured him during this first visit to the Cavern as being rather dour and not terribly personable. But that's just my concept and it's a lovely scene nonetheless.
There is this clever little book you might enjoy called The Day John Met Paul and it's by Jim O'Donnell.Of course, it's about that incredible (in hindsight) day when two supernatural forces collided in an English churchyard. Jim has clearly done his homework, though he has to rely on literary license to paint the missing parts of the picture for what can only be conjured up in imagination. But it's a charming book and, like this video, seeks to fill in the blanks.
according to a lot of recollections, brian was besotted from first sight but very awkward (due to bob wooler announcing his presence over the p.a. (as depicted)
These things are always musically inaccurate. Pete Best wouldn't have been able to use his bass drum like that. Nor did Harrison play guitar in that style.

Did this song "Love is Strange" come out in 1961 or earlier?
BEatles were folllowed by several music companies at that moment. If Epstein wud failed to run their careers , another wud do it,at large. Beatles were known more in Germany and Epstein did not known them. Germans were interested in their services,and were hired many times from 1961 to 1963 included.
Actually, record companies rejected them systematically. In Germany they were one of many English bands playing in sordid clubs. Brian's role was really key in making the Beatles known to the world as we know them!

Gosh ... This film is cringeworthy from start to finish. The innacuracies, the accents, the overacting, the terrible acting, the inconsistencies. A lot a effort was put in what could have been an authoritative reference and an accurate account ... but it’s all simply a cringe from start to finish.
