This is a lovely video. I went in a txi in Dublin in the 1950s. It was a 180D. Ever since I wanted to own a Mercedes. I am very interested in the new C Class which will appear at the end of 2007. I think Mercedes Benz are now taking a lot of trouble. It will be a very good car!!
My cheap and simple 20-year-old Nissan has done 360,000 kms and is still running perfectly. But I do have fond memories of my old 1967 Mercedes 200. :)
Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a LEGEND, it was every time first in its tehnology, design and SAFTEY! I have a W140, which is still a great car..e32 couldnt make it in this comparison-never!
Lexus cars are very delicatley designed, just by looking at any Lexus car the design aesthetic is amazing, Lexus designs have a harmonic presence, Lexus cars are sophisticated luxury.. The interior is where Lexus thrive, their interiors are based on L-finesse concept, which means each interior part is designed and placed 1000 different ways.. Lexus are the best.. I used to be a German auto fan, but Lexus has changed my conception
One of the best videos in youtube! Merceses ueber alles! Mercedes Benz is the best, followed by the other german cars. Everything else is years away from the german luxury and elegance
Mercedes-Benz will always be a legendary marque. Nevertheless, I´m beginning to see too many recent MB models at the repair shops...and not so long ago they were rare to see. This fact leads me to think that more technology is not synonymous with more reliability. Newer Mercedes vehicles are so overloaded with electronics that you´ll have to hire an engineer as a co-pilot !!
Maybe, but there are just some things that you just get tired of doing, like accelerate and brake, that's why you have Distronic-Plus. How about having to reach for the radio while driving? You can just use voice activated. I realize that the COMMAND is pretty impresive b/c you can put more things in it w/o using dashboard space. I know that there are features that can make you safer like Pre-Safe where the power seats come up to position to crash safely. Of course, they cost something.
Yup that's correct, mercedes engineering is very dedicated,, It's precision is up to the level of how smooth the door handles feel when you open and close the doors.. Mercedes have dedicated engineers just for the door, that's how precise the German company Mercedes Benz is. Lexus engineering is no different to a Toyota quality engineering.. Mercedes = Quality, precision, performance.. and Luxury and class..
We can both agree that they're luxuries but just look at the latter part of the 1800s, the light were condsidered that while the masses were still using candles. So today, what is considered a luxury today might be considered a need in the future, depending on who you are and what your needs are. I'll admit there are some things things that we take forgranted and the we should appreciate them for making our lives more efficient.
It's lighter which means your fuel economy and, therefore, gas bill improves. I find some of these things in the S-Class makes safer us, directly and indirectly. GPS has, yes, found those places quicker but it has made us anticipate those turns much sooner making it less likely to get us into an accident. The voice actived COMMAND let's us pay more attention to the road while fiddling with the radio, AC, and others.
I've owned imports, foreign, domestic, and euros and I'll buy a BMW or Merc before anything else. Have had two BMWs 280k miles still running strong also Mercs with 150k+ to over 200k miles. All I have put little money into, were easy to work on, and actually sold them for more than I paid. Right now I have a 93 Merc 400E 275 HP, heated leather powered seats, sunroof, and traction control... most newer cars are just now catching up on these options, when Merc have had these as a standard.
You can see how the S class was an evolution which preserved aesthetics from the previous model... until the latest S class, which sadly broke with that tradition.
@jakemiller5000 "Most German car manufacturers use a node that when it fails, doesn't allow for bypasses." Would you please elaborate? Thanks. Also, you metioned that Toyota does depend on the Germans for electronics. You mind telling us what those companies are? Thanks.
Die sagen ab 3:21 indirekt, dass die W140 S-Klasse in den 80ern auf den Markt kam. Das stimmt nicht! Sie wurde erst ab 1991 gebaut. As of 3:21 they indirectly say, that the S-class W140 was published in the 80's. That's not true! It was only produced as of 1991. Sorry for my possibly bad English! :-)
The mercedes is made for people who wants the best comfort, elegance, new tech, mercedes is the ultimate car in the world, for that considerence, that's my opinion, nobody in the world can design a car better then the germans, if you look at top gear you will see that they think the same with me, "mercedes and the rest is silence"
i know MB is like the king tiger tank. high maintnence. but dang, it should be less expensive to upkeep. rice burners also last forever and cheaper like you say.
For those not reading his original post I meant Audi was better than BMW, not MB. Nowadays it's a toss up between bmw and audi for certain models between them, but all mercs are better now other than the C class (bar AMG Versions).
i want to buy a benz because most of the owners said that the 80s and 90s are bullet proof.i like all the C,E and S class but the C and E i can afford.Wanted to buy a Alfa Romeo becasue of the looks and very good engine reliability but for some weeks not the german engineering cauth me offguard.
Ha! At 2:52, that's one ugly pea soup green S-Class! Green is my favorite color, but not in that shade. I'm glad Mercedes-Benz still offers green as an exterior color because a lot of other manufacturers do not any more.
@Rico8458 first comes mercedes, than bmw, porsche, audi, vw. so there you have the 5 best car brands in the world. then comes maybach, bugatti, rolls royce and bentley, al owned by the german manufactures mentioned in the top 5. Btw the line between mercedes, bmw, audi, vw becomes thinner by the day, so they all are good cars. Now some say that opel is better than vw, but opel is for poor people who can't afort the other brands. Workers drive opel, and people who got it made the other brands.
cheap way to have a caddy.buy an old statesman, tyres at 15 psi, sock in air cleaner, dril hole in fuel tank and glue an old fridge on roof.i know i used to own one now 450se.nice car
"Horsepower sells cars, TORQUE wins races"- Carroll Shelby That's what this brand focuses on. They've always been perceived as 'heavy' cars but noticably getting sportier and sportier while other cars are performing like 'fat pigs' and sufferring for it due to higher standards of luxury and safety. That's why I'm finding in the long-term MB is laughing all the way to the bank.
I find the parts very reasonable, but not the dealers.Get an independent mechanic. I have an A 170 cdi and a C 220 cdi. Wouldn't have anything else but a Merc.
But how about the airbags you could order in 1974? Traction control, power trunk release, power door locks, illuminated vanity mirrors, tempmatic airco with odor filter, truetrack braking system, nightwatch, power sunroof, pulse wiper system and the 5mph bumpers. (these were not made of flimsy plastic). Sure a lot of car for the money back then. But on the neg. side:the horrible build quality, fit and finish, the use of cheap crappy plastic on the interiors. But I still like my '98 's -
@airtouch01 First off Toyota is not all that reliable. Remember that accelerator/brake pedal problem. Second, if maintained correctly, a Mercedes Benz will last for hundreds of thousands of miles. This is why you still see Benz's on the road that are decades old, most of them still run perfectly. Third, Toyota uses cheap inexpensive parts, while Mercedes and other German luxury makers use high quality, expensive part. Fourth, Mercedes Benz's makes the safest cars in the world, hand down.
@Rico8458 When you wrote that 2yrs ago yes Audi was better, now they're cutting costs: look at the plastics, cheap and in areas where they used to have wood, and other than the A8 which is modern and a real s class rival, the rest of the line up has barely changed except for using less quality of materials, MB is now using the best materials, much better than the past decade of Mercs!
i think mercedes is great car and BMW, but i think that BMW have alwayes that kind of sport charcter, and mercedes is more classic and then you chose what reflect your personality
Like no other...
I first watched this video when it was launched in 2006, and still today! :) Mercedes will always live forever!
I am still amazed with the technology in the cars at the times of their production! I Love the "Disco" part.

Best car in the world.
Never was an unsuccessful S-Class, ever.
My cheap and simple 20-year-old Nissan has done 360,000 kms and is still running perfectly. But I do have fond memories of my old 1967 Mercedes 200. :)

Awesome video, thank you for posting it
Im so proud that the 2007 Mercedes S-class is my birthday
Love it when that woman gets shocked when she accidentally switched on the radio... :)
Three of the most beautiful things in the world: German women, German language and Mercedes-Benz :)
All German cars are perfect, but I love Mercedes-Benz.
The best. Merecedes has become a sinonim of reliability, comfort, luxury and powerful!! Go German cars!
Maybe, but there are just some things that you just get tired of doing, like accelerate and brake, that's why you have Distronic-Plus. How about having to reach for the radio while driving? My Dad has a W220 and he loves it and it still has loads of tech in it but we just drool over a W221
The Mercedes S-class just tops every other car on the road
Yup that's correct, mercedes engineering is very dedicated,, It's precision is up to the level of how smooth the door handles feel when you open and close the doors..

the S-class is simply the best car in the world

@BIHVR6GTI haha ko će ovo napisat nego Bosanac ;) Svaka čast frende slažem se u potpunosti :))))
you are completely right man, give me a BMW anyday
W126 because it was the last one to be independent from digital ECU and electronics for the most part... So it will work forever.
Best car on earth..
@airtouch01 Indeed.. And that's not only with cars...

Loved it when the woman gets shocked over the radio at 0:49 ... today even Sat-Navs are nothing to people! :D
thanks for the info.
You can see how the S class was an evolution which preserved aesthetics from the previous model... until the latest S class, which sadly broke with that tradition.
lol a little forward but i totally agree. Mercedes is a car of class & craftsmanship
Matur suwun mas Ilham
I love w140 and w220!
@jakemiller5000 "Most German car manufacturers use a node that when it fails, doesn't allow for bypasses."

According to your profile, you live in the UK. Did you live in the US before? I ask because you sound like you know more of these things more than me.

Couldn't have said it better.
thanks, excellent reply and feedback. i thought Audi was better than BMW
My dad's gonna get a W221 in a few years - We only got our W220 a year ago
WOW the 70's and 80's mercedes has more features and buttons then the 2009 lexus
ФАНТАСТИЧНО
@paulbusuego92
The W140 is a very nice looking Mercedes, but come on.............nothing still can beat the look of the gorgeous W123!
0:23 best S-class ever!!!!!
love the blond female model. very good.
i know MB is like the king tiger tank. high maintnence. but dang, it should be less expensive to upkeep. rice burners also last forever and cheaper like you say.
I couldn't agree more, and I have 5 Oldsmobiles. So I guess that makes me (according to some people) a crappy old low- tech car lover ;)
For those not reading his original post I meant Audi was better than BMW, not MB. Nowadays it's a toss up between bmw and audi for certain models between them, but all mercs are better now other than the C class (bar AMG Versions).
2:52 - 3:18 WHAT CAR YEAR IS IT!? PLEASE!
you have to admit, Mercedes suffered some serious electronics problems in the early 2000's
best car
i want to buy a benz because most of the owners said that the 80s and 90s are bullet proof.i like all the C,E and S class but the C and E i can afford.Wanted to buy a Alfa Romeo becasue of the looks and very good engine reliability but for some weeks not the german engineering cauth me offguard.
@Blingdaa86 i heard the beer was very good and the cars are more reliable then the women.
i wish there were some subtitles :((
Ha! At 2:52, that's one ugly pea soup green S-Class! Green is my favorite color, but not in that shade. I'm glad Mercedes-Benz still offers green as an exterior color because a lot of other manufacturers do not any more.
@airtouch01 dude you forgot VW
captain, i know MB is number one in the world. but how do we rate BMW and Audi? is Audi really better than BMW?
I think the W124 and the W126 were Mercedes cars. the last properly built and over-engineered.
BMW, Porsche Mercedes, Audi :)
I LOVE MY JOB ¡¡¡¡¡¡
Lexus and Acura are HOT, but let's face it, Mercedes invented luxury.
I see your contempt for this car but what is wrong with admiring these tech? Why exactly admire Oldsmobile over Chevy, aren't they the same?
what about reliability? :(
Check out the video :

@garbis2323 IAM FROM THE BAY TOO!! STAY CLASSY
I agree with you how can such a great auto maker get involved with another auto maker? The new mercedes look like a chrysler.
süpeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr

Los autos japoneses son fantásticos pero aquí y en China Mercedes es Mercedes, para mi gusto el auto con más abolengo y clase a nivel mundial sin ser tampoco el más caro
so i can see a mercedes on fire... caddys do not burn on fire like mercedes.
mine caddy is the best, and the first.
