    I see your Zeiss Bias is showing. The “flaws” you pointed out are all addresable in post or with camera settings. My zeiss glass is generally much cooler than my leica R glass. The exceptions is that my hasselblad zeiss glass is warmer than most other zeiss lenses that i have see. As far as the Leica R 90mm f2.0 itself, it is one of the most mind blowing lenses I have ever seen: sharpness, nuanced contrast, well behaved depth of field fall off, etc. nonetheless, still an exceptional lens

      Thanks for checking out the video! The 90mm f2.0 is definitely a much better lens than my 90mm f2.8. As for my bias, everyone has their own opinions and I love to hear others as part of the filmmaker community, so thank you for sharing yours. I try to be as fair as possible by matching camera settings, lens settings, and putting a generic rec 709 lut over the footage.

      @@EvanMortonFilm i know. You do a great job. I am mostly just messin’ with you. We both are obviously experienced with many sets of lenses. Thank you for the info, the banter, and your effort in educating us!!

    I love Leica, and I will shoot Leica vs Olympus compare in the future on my UA-cam

    Your comparison is somewhat convoluted. Viewers would be better served by a Contax 100mm 2.8 AE series lens performance versus Leica R 100mm APO 2.8.

      I try my best to disclose the differences in both lenses in a non-biased approach. Of course, the Contax goes down to 1.4 whereas the Leica goes to a 2.8 and they have a 5mm difference, but I feel like the 85mm and 90mm lenses are more often used for filmmaking over a 100mm lens. I'm sure those are both great lenses and would love to see a comparison myself!

    Judging from the ninja star aperture blades Contax is the AE version?

      Hey thanks for checking out the video! Oddly when I purchased the 85mm Contax lens it was listed as an MMG version, upon receiving it I noticed it does have the ninja star bokeh and it does not have the green F Stop number that MM versions have. So, yes it's an AEG version. I personally like the controversial ninja star bokeh because, to me, it gives it unique character.

      @@EvanMortonFilm I have it too and based on your test I must say I prefer a color rendition on Planar :) Also I like the fact that shooting wide open gives this soft look and provides another stylistic tool if necessary.

      @EvanMortonFilm  Рік тому

      @@ghospod Yeah I want to do some comparisons with the wider focal lengths 25mm, 18mm, etc. I do like the Leica too and you can tweak things in post, but wanted to throw a REC 709 and let the lenses natural look speak for itself. The soft look wide open does look nice, I really like that with my Minolta Rokkors. I have a comparison I'll post soon with a Zeiss vs Rokkor lens. What's your favorite Contax lens in your kit?

    • @ghospod
      @ghospod Рік тому

      @@EvanMortonFilm I didn't have a chance to use it that extensively but I do like the 25/2.8 and the fact it has a quite small close focus so you can get that funky close up shots (shooting FF) and obviously 50 and 85 gives this smooth bokeh. I'm debating over getting 18/4 but heard mixed opinions on that one. Do you like it?

    • @EvanMortonFilm
      @EvanMortonFilm  Рік тому

      @@ghospod That was the most expensive lens in my kit and I grab it the least. I feel like it looked better on Super 35mm than on a full frame. On full frame I'm noticing more distortion, which outdoors doesn't seem to be as noticeable as it is indoors. I think the 21mm 2.8 is a better option, but you're going from the $900 range to a lens around the $1600 range. Granted you're also going from F/4 to F/2.8, but the 25mm F2.8 you have is much more affordable than the 21mm and only a 4mm difference. Alternatively there's the Zeiss Classic lenses that some compare to Contax lenses too. I've seen some folks get a newer wide lens that more or less matches the vintage look. I'll post a video on the 18mm lens sometime soon!

    Why does Leica always lose? Was this the first or second version Elmarit?

    • @EvanMortonFilm
      @EvanMortonFilm  Рік тому

      It's 3 Cam Late version, so the 2nd version. This was an Elmarit rather than a Summilux which should outperform some Leica's given it's praise and price.

      @@EvanMortonFilm The Elmarit-R 90 Version 2 is the best corrected lens Leica made before the expensive Summicron-R 90 APO. The results are pretty disappointing.

      @@sebastiang7183 Appreciate you checking the video out. Leica and Zeiss are some of the most popular vintage lenses cinemodded and wanted to do a comparison. I tend to really like the Elmarit 35mm, may do a video of that down the line.

      @@EvanMortonFilm Thanks for making that video. I was thinking long and hard between the Zeiss and the Elmarit and ended up with the Elmarit. I also have the second version and although a great lens for charts I never really bonded with it. I have a Summicron-R 90 pre-Asph that I absolutely love. I have a Summilux-R 50 E55 that I go back and forth on between love and slightly disappointed. Then some other lenes I won't get into.
