This would still be worth watching just for the soundtrack. I never really got into the series because my parents wouldn't let me play anything with a horror theme, but I discovered the music much later. It definitely holds up. It's also sort of making me wish you'd play Blaster Master, but the lack of unlimited continues in that one probably makes it a bad choice for this sort of thing.

I promise I won't comment again after this, but... I live in Tucson, Arizona. We have days of a high at like 65-75 degrees at this point. Usually if we get snow, it's in January or sometimes March. We don't get a white Christmas usually. Which I'll admit, does suck. But two times in my life it has snowed on my birthday (Jan 17th). Once on my 7th birthday and again on my 18th. We also had a freaky occurrence where it snowed on Easter when I was 10. I remember being at my grandma's house just standing outside doing little twirls to swish my dress before we went to church. It was so much fun!
Oh, you NEED to play Symphony of the Night. Not only is it a great Castlevania game, it's easily one of the BEST games made. I saw your play through of Aria of Sorrow, so it's very similar to that.
I remember playing this game! It was brutally hard, but it was worth beating it! I can sense Jared's pain when he couldn't get through the final three levels. They were HARRRRD! Just remember this: One does not simply play Castlevania.
As far as stockings go, me and my little brother always got candy and little toys in our stockings from Santa. Never any electronics, but cool stuff nonetheless. My brother is 11 1/2 years younger than me, so we usually got different stuff. Sometimes I got a CD in my stocking. That's because I'm a HUGE lover of music. My Mom always did our stockings, and she never failed to make me and my brother Davey SO happy! 😁
I love how at the beginning Jared avoided the Holy Water. I think this is one of the few Castlevania games that makes it top tier for a subweap. Usually I avoid it in most games.
Yeah the way enemies flinch in this game makes it very strong. I beat Castlevania 1 NES when I was 4 back in the day, I replayed it again a few years ago and managed to get all the way to final stage, even beating Death, without dying a single time or using any holy water. Just like Dark Souls, it's a game about memorization and execution, the execution itself isn't very hard once you memorize everything
Friend forced me to git fud at this game years ago. It's a lot easier when you learn all the cheese strats. I'm still watching your first attempt so not sure if you learned this or not but... -You can skip all of stage 5 consistently every time by getting knocked up to the top floor by the flying head at the start of the stage -You can cheese Medusa with holy water and the mummies with the cross which insta kill them -For some of the long walkway parts in stage 4, 6, and 8, you can just keep walking forward without stopping and the flying heads won't touch you. There are other tips but I don't remember them much. The game is purely about timing so once you learn when things happen in the game, it's a breeze.
I'm curious if you heard of Castlevania ReVamped. It's a fan game that basically asks the question "What if Castlevania on NES was a Metroidvania?" I've been playing it a lot lately and been having a blast with it so far. Might make for a good stream or even a series on Projared Plays? Up to you :P
Oof. "StarTropics"? That game is all "Depth perception, what/where are you???" I never played the original. Growing up I played "StarTropics 2: Zoda's Revenge". That one is awesome because you time travel, and at one point, end up on "Baker Street". All my Sherlock Holmes fans say "Hey!" 😁😁😎😎
