Vintage Barbie Sewing Patterns!

- Back in the 60s my mom couldn’t afford Barbie clothing for her doll that my grandmother got her. Instead, my grandmother made her clothes!
Here are three outfits made by a talented seamstress I commissioned to remake one exact replica of a dress my mom had as a child and made by her mom, and two others I thought were cute in a different sewing kit.
The patterns cost 50c! A big difference from the 4$ a new outfit from Mattel, right?
If you want new clothing for your vintage doll, check out the patterns on Etsy available as digital PDFs you print out! Then send a message to the same talented seamstress who made these outfits for me!

My patterns for Barbie and Ken range from the 1970s to 2000s, with a lot of retro reprints. The ones for formal gowns are much too complicated for my home sewing skills and are still in their envelopes.
The everyday wardrobes are my favorites. Your dress choice is adorable, especially with ric rac.
Separates are easier for me as some of the current Barbie and Ken dolls are "stockier" than my 1970s dolls.
How talented you are to match all those plaids.... I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you 🍄🍄
Love the retro stuff you got in the background man so classic light Love the '90s keeps it real bruh😢
Haha it’s just the barbie dream house! From 1964
She is a great seamstress. So well made and beautiful.
I really miss her. I feel bad that I never told her how wonderful her work was and how much I loved it as a child, and appreciate the craftsmanship as an adult.
I LOVE the bouffant Barbie. I had her in “Titian” She was my fav.
Mine was a platinum bubble cut.
I'm making Barbie clothes now from my Grandmothers vintage patterns that she used for me when I was little. Some of them are the 1950's patterns. It is so much fun. I love your story about your mother. I'm so happy I found your channel.
Glad to have you here! Please consider uploading photos of your handmade clothing to a website and linking it in a comment here! I am sure we would all love to see them!
That blue dress is so pretty. I had a Barbie and Midge just like the ones you have shown in this video when I was a little girl. I loved them. Now I have been making outfits for a little girl that has just started playing with her Barbie dolls. I hope she loves them as much as I still do. ❤
I love that you are showing the patterns are actually true to what the original outfits actually looked like. It is a real replica! Very cool.
The best part is how you can still make them! They really do try to give lots of information, you just need a small basic understanding of sewing which you can now easily get on UA-cam. Then you can get your own vintage wardrobe! How amazing is that? It’s practically time travelling!
I really want the blue dress, it’s so pretty! 😍💖💖💖
I have this pattern and I'm inspired to use it now. She did an excellent job sewing, its not easy making those tiny outfits.
Glad you got inspired to make it!!
I have these two patterns and more. I really need to sit down this fall after the weather cools down and get sewing! I have made Barbie doll fashions from patterns off UA-cam and they came out super. There is some very talented people on this UA-cam for sure! Love the Barbie vintage house! I have been wanting one of those. The Mattel told me it was a limited edition thing. Maybe to they will come back with it. I think it even came with a doll too! Thanks for posting this! Oh! You may want to check your local thrift stores. I have found great vintage patterns there too! Have a blessed day!
They actually re-released the house a year or two later with a bubble cut and some nice fashions. I wouldn’t mind getting a hold of those repro fashions!
Nice sewing spiration, love the Barbie house too
I used to have that suitcase house! So happy to see it here :) I love your love for the dolls & the memories that go with them. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! And really? I’ve been wondering what brand the doll suitcase is.
@@JazzHands somewhere I saw there are current reproductions of that house available for purchase..amazing!!
Nice video. I am sewing Barbie clothes. My mom made matching outfits for me & my Barbie, when I was a child. Your doll in the video is very similar to the one I had as a child.
I have this pattern but haven't made anything using it just yet. It's really nice to see some outfits made from this pattern.
I really like seeing the patterns made into actual outfits too, and it’s so neat that you can easily print them out and make them yourself!
LOL. I totally understand new kittens! Congratulations!
The color of the dress is beautiful 🤩!!! I hate the new Barbie!!! They're all pink or purple and have no imagination whatsoever!!! I'm glad that this fashion designer is sewing authentic Barbie clothes. Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, it’s so much fun to get a custom new vintage outfit!
My mom used to make me Barbie clothes when I was younger!
Today I downloaded some vintage patterns from Etsy, including one of the ones my Mom had. This is how I found this video and channel!
Awesome! Welcome! Those things I did were kind of one off as I have a lot of hobbies, but I’m looking forward to hearing how yours turn out! It took me as much as 7 tries on one dress, so don’t be discouraged!!
The fit of this blue dress is wonderful. I own a lot of original vintage Barbie, Ken, Skipper and Francie patterns including this one. I really need to sew this dress. I also love the Vogue retro Barbie patterns series. The graphics on these patterns are amazing.
They did a great job on the illustrations!
I recently bought that pattern to try and haven't looked at it yet. As a newbie to following patterns, I am excited to try this one!
Wow the coat is beautiful too
So I actually rewatch your wonderful videos because they are so enjoyable and I have gotten several commissions made from MyDollyDolls since this wonderful video. I hope your well.
Oh I’m so glad to hear that! I’ll get back into videos someday, I need the time and space for it…
Oh please do!!! You are missed! We need more Jazz Hands Barbie videos!
How are the my dolly dolls outfits? I don’t think I’ve even heard of em
Be very careful with strong colors of lining. White and nude are best colors. Otherwise, the colored linings bleed onto the doll's vinyl.
Oops, that is great to knock 😮
@Lola-bg8lr Yes, it would be easy to "knock" that bit of information--until your Barbie shows up with Navy Blue or Forest Green body parts. I bought a 20-inch Miss Revlon in an antique shop with a Mommy-Made wardrobe. She came in a trunk with some adorable outfits by a talented mother for her daughter's doll. Unfortunately, the dolly's mama stored her dolly away wearing a black brocade cocktail dress, and Miss Revlon is a different skin color from her chest to her knees (which is why i could afford her). Now, there are doll websites that claim that there is a topical acne medication that will, if applied to the doll and left in the sun, "bleach out" the unwanted color. However, it can also take out the vinyl color of the doll's skin tones, too. Remember, these dolls are from the 1950s and are a bit fragile.
Pretty dress!
I loved this video!
I’m creating a project with dolls and the first outfit but in pink pattern is just what I needed! Thank you for sharing the info‼️
Love the brown outfit and coat!
I just discovered your channel and I’m loving your videos! I got very emotional hearing you talking about your mother and grandma history, so glad that you have the opportunity to revive their beautiful memories with the dolls clothes in some way, it made my day a lot better! Kisses and hugs from Brazil
I am so glad it touched you! My grandmother is still alive, I wish I could get her opinion on the clothing she made! Glad to have you here! You are most welcome!
Yes it is definitely is a beautiful dress. I love the color and the rick rack makes it really stand out. The bloomers act like a petticoat to make the dress fluffy!😊
I just discovered your channel and I adore it! I have a special fondness for homemade vintage style Barbie outfits. As a child, I learned how to sew by making Barbie outfits. There is a sweet quality that these home made outfits have that I absolutely love. Looking forward to binge watch all your videos.
Amazing work from mydollydolls . Love those bloomers . Another great Barbie fashion display using an original doll of the past even better ...Thanks !!
She really does do great work! Make sure you check out her site, she posts pictures of her work on Instagram too!
Hi, another great video, i love the square dancing dress, the blue color is great. My mom made my dolls clothes as well, i like some of the fancy manufactured clothes and gowns, however I like the home made ones more so because thats what i mostly had.
Very nice!
Awww I love the dress
Love my grandmas sewing. Unfortunately she passed away earlier this year. She will be missed terribly. I hope we can all help remember her by her beautiful clothes!
I am enjoying your video.
Thank you! I’m so glad!
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Those outfits are very nice, and the blue full dress is very, Kitch! The button accent on the brown suit is adorable and the tweed overcoat is very vintage. I remember my mother sewing a “Friday Night “Date” to give to my niece years ago except she used a pink corduroy and the appliqués were a “peep” motifs. My mother has long since passed away and my niece is now married with three sons. I’m going to look for the pattern to the, date night and see if I can create my own “OOAK” outfit.
Thank you for the trip down memory lane.
Hi! ...I’m so glad I found your channel. I’m a big Barbie collector and I love to sew! Just learning some vintage sewing skills so I to can create the earlier fashions which are sooo beautiful.. especially the Boudoir fashions in yellow and pink chiffon! Can’t wait to start. This is the pattern I’m working on right now...Simplicity #5785
Can’t wait to see what you make! Make sure you upload it to a website and post it here so people can enjoy it! :)
Oh my I own that barbie ....with red hair and bangs ......
I love your videos! I love seeing the different fashions to look for when buying vintage Barbies and their clothes! I haven’t purchased a book yet to know what to look for and your videos of helped a lot!
Glad you enjoy them! The reference books are amazing if you do need help, I am no fashion expert and make mistakes, lol!
Hey good looking, love your show and you!Sophia Maria Nettles!
Really enjoyed watching this. I just discovered you and subscribed. I am working on sewing my own barbie outfits from old patterns
What patterns are you working on? I haven’t done any sewing for awhile I’m afraid but it was a lot of fun trying them out!
So cool! I wish you would show those nice closures more closely. My closures are so messy...!
Thanks for posting!
I do have that original patterns I'm plan make this Country Dance Girl. Look fun and thanks for sharing your video. ☺
Markofashion can’t wait to see what yours looks like!
Love this!
I love my Silkstone Barbies because they are so sophisticated like the vintage dolls. I do handle my basic Sikstones when I'm sewing for them, but I don't even breathe on my NRFB dolls, such as my Delphine. When I was in grade 4, I wanted a brunette Bubblecut but they were sold out. I was asked, how about this redhead? I couldn't say yes fast enough, lol. Your brunette is stunning!
The redheads are gorgeous too! They are also rarer nowadays, if you care about that kind of thing.
I don’t have silk stones, I don’t like the excessive make up. I like the better, hard bodies, but prefer the more simplistic beauty of the original dolls. Some silk stone outfits are very nice though!
I have my Chinoiserie Red Moon Silkstone Barbie out right now, next to the computer. She is so lovely with black hair and brown eyes. I had taken the ponytail down and steamed her hair, much better.
love it, I have alot of those patterns and I make my own designs too
Really? I’d love to see them!
I love this channel!!!
Glad you are here!!
Beautiful
Really enjoy your videos. Hope you start back up again soon :-)
I’ve started filming again. I’m trying to edit and do better production. It’s hard. I have to hide in my closet and lock both cats out of the previous room because they howl while I try to do commentary. For no reason other than I’m talking to myself.
No real plans to do any sewing again…
@@JazzHands no worries! Completely get that it's hard to do :-)
That dress is really cute! I want to get one like it but can’t find anything like it anywhere.
That the Barbie l had. I sold 🥑 to eaen the money to buy both Barbie and Ken. Later my Mom got me Midge and Skipper. The doll house you are using looks like the cardboard Babie Townhouse l had too. I made a plastic shoe box full of Barbie clothes for my little Grand-daughter for Christmas.
Oh that sounds lovely! Love that you hand made stuff! I bet you loved them as a kid!!
New sub here 🙏🏻💖
Sorry for delay welcome to the channel!
i’m making barbie clothes now, not sure i want to sell, probably couldn’t keep up because of my other job
I love this channel! Does my dolly dolls Etsy shop still exist?
Glad to have you here! And I’m not sure! They just did patterns so they hopefully do?
Where do you get your stands?
The wire stand is what the original Barbie’s came with, and I’m either using a genuine vintage one or a vintage reproduction stand in this video. They look pretty similar
How much did you pay for a single comission dress???
I don’t know it wasn’t that much. Maybe 20-30$?
Do you have a link to the Etsy? I really want to make that square dance dress!
Absolutely! And let me know if you make it and feel free to send an email photo of your results :)

I like the videos!!! And I'm ok with looking at cat scratches!!! Better without the gloves!
Yeah, I definitely can manipulate the small items better without the gloves. I have a new kitten now too, who knows
🔧✌🏻😤✌🏻🤪🤦🏻♀️💞🎈❤️🐡💕🤔😤😎🐡💞🎈 I love you vintage Barbie doll bubble Barbie doll and your Barbie doll clothes
I get the biggest kick out of Mr. JHs knocking over Barbie’s furniture, & stands, & whatnot. Gloves make finite movements difficult especially when things are small. Just makes me lol.
oh your my boys age young
Thank you, but unfortunately yor video always buffers at the same spot and i cannot watch it
I’m sorry to hear that. Sounds like a UA-cam issue.
@@JazzHands
Now it works, it was youtube indeed I guess. I love all of those outifts and I myself own almost all of the digital barbie patterns. It is really fun to create clothing for the dolls.
I was wondering about the blue dress on the hanger in the back?
The striped one? That’s Movie Date #933. It only came with the dress, no shoes or jewelry or anything else, so I haven’t featured it yet. I’ll probably do it as a combination Ken/Barbie video, like the Friday night date set.
Thank you!
you need medical gloves, would be easier for you.
