Mirror temple: Sometimes, I... don't really know... what's going on anymore. I... I don't... know who I am. I just... look in the mirror, and... don't know who I'm looking at. Or... who's looking at me. I... think a lot... about... where... my train of thought is going... and it's not always a good place. And that scares me. I don't... like... scaring myself. I don't... B side: *now that's some funky depression*
The original track conveyed the proper depression that Madeline was suffering through, especially at that moment. The B-side remixes of these levels, often have a creative outsider's look on said music tracks, as if to establish these are more to be played strictly from the gameplay side. ...This is just a straight-up blues version of the Mirror Temple theme. God fucking damn it, that is clever.
Yeah, the music in each chapter accompanies the level, makes you feel what Madeline is feeling, and makes the game way more immersive. Meanwhile, the B-side remixes are just music for music, with no specific goal in mind besides causing an eargasm, which this absolutely nails.
Eh, I honestly think many of the B sides still fit the tone of the level, just as... well, like you said, a creative outsider's look on them. The ironic thing is that i think the Mirror Temple remix is no exception, and is even one of the prime examples in my opinion- it's incredibly catchy and groovy, yes, but it's also tense, like you're unsure of how confident you are in overcoming such a place, even if you appear stalwart on the outside. That's how mental illness can often depict itself, as a stalwart person who is shattered on the inside. You can even see this directly in the song, as it has a tense sounding choir in the background as well as the kind of random snare percussion you sometimes hear in In The Mirror. In other words, 2 Mello is seriously fucking galaxy brain.
It's like Theo realized how emotionally intense the original mirror temple music was and made the B-side the most chilled out groove ever for when you have to return.

I keep coming back to this track, of all the tracks, almost daily. It's so chill that it almost feels out of place in Celeste, this otherwise infuriating but perfectly controlled platformer - but that's one of the perks of the soundtrack you've created, that it manages to keep the player in that state of 'just psyched enough' to persevere without feeling under too much pressure. The normal world Mirror Temple was tense, atmospheric, and almost lonely, transitioning later into feeling like it was pushing you on with that slowly encroaching Lovecraftian horror. The B-side was the most astonishing difference and it was a joy to play through the Mirror Temple with this funky, jazzy chill just hanging out. Flying eyeteeth monsters? Whatev, man, we chill. To turn a discordant and ambient piece into such a groovy track, and yet it continues to give off the sinister vibe of the original. I think I found my favorite Celeste track, and there was stiff competition to boot. Well done.
This was disturbingly fitting with the feeling of being unsure whether something horrible has happened and trying to distract yourself by playing a game because you know you can't do anything about it
I played Mirror Temple for the first time as a kid and barely finished it, but couldn't go back and replay it after I had finished it because I was too unnerved by the music and the themes of self-doubt that hit a little too close to home. Years later, after beginning my transition and playing Celeste again, I got to the Mirror Temple B-Side and dreaded playing it because of those traumatic feelings of self-doubt. I could've just quit right there; I had ample opportunity and reason to do so. Instead, I found myself with my new favorite song and playing, in my opinion, the most well designed and hype level in any video game. That file has become my (near) 100% complete file. This song, along with the B-Side accompanying it, almost singlehandedly shot Celeste to my favorite video game of all time--tied with Terraria. Much love to Lena Raine, 2-Mello, and all who worked on the masterpiece of modern art called Celeste 💖
For some reason, out of all the highlights of this song, the tiny phrase at 2:46 is like actual crack for me. The way that voice flows smoother than any sentence I’ll ever utter in my life is honestly addictive as hell.
It is impossible to get bored listening to this. It is such a banger I can listen to it literally all day ( it goes so well with rainy days too try it ;) )
SPOILER WARNING You know, recently, I made a discovery about the Mirror Temple. Yes, it's supposed to enhance your anxiety, make you uncomfortable, anxious, but it's mainly Madeline helping Theo confront his problems before she confronts her's. You see, at first, you're simply trying to get to Theo after he runs away, isolates himself to try and appease others, puts pressure on himself. Than, you find him, out of reach, needing help, and you have to save him. After you find him, you discover that he needs to solve his problems himself, but you can still help him never the less, by bringing him to the problem, and having him approach, confront, and defeat it. All the while, Madeline is using all of this to help her escape her own problems, instead of confronting them, even though they are straight in her face. And the only reason she discovered them in the first place is because she had to discover Theo's problems, and help him. His problems made her discover her own. After they escape the mirror temple, Theo chats with Madeline to enter the final steps of healing, while Theo helps Madeline enter the first steps in healing, which is confronting her problems.
i love how the actual mirror temple reflects anxiety, the thoughts of disassociating, not understanding your thoughts or feelings, and then the B side is so upbeat and happy. this game is a rollercoaster from start to finish.
This is genuinely so good and rich with feeling, its perfect! I feel melqncholy, angst, regret and the piano is beautiful yet haunting, the strings add drama, i genuinely can't describe how much i love this
Frustrations abound during this particular B-Side, but the music more than makes up for it. Especially the room with the 4 Spirit Locks and those platforms that move when you dash. I think I died a lot in that room until I figured it out. My boss was grinning like a Cheshire cat when he saw my slip-ups. *EDIT, 14TH DEC 2018:* It was a pity, in a way, when I had to leave that workplace back in July 2018, for a job up north. Thanks for having me around, Kendrick! (the boss of *VR Lab Subang Jaya* , the place I once worked for, since October 2016.) God bless ya.
EmblemBlade9 The boss I've got is a rather cool guy. That, and I'm working at a VR games place, and when there's no customers, I play a few games, VR or otherwise, to pass the time.
We run all our games with the HTC Vive hardware, and of course, Steam software. ^_^ In other words, we use PCs for our VR needs. In my case, there's one PC that functions as a test area for newer VR games, so I downloaded Celeste on it, and played the heck out of it when business was a little slow. Of course, my favourite VR games here include Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, and Space Pirate Trainer. The latter's good for fancy footwork while avoiding enemy fire. ^_^;
On a side note, if anyone knows how to jump off spikes effectively without dying on them, like I've seen in several Golden Flying Strawberry vids of Chapter 1-C, do let me know. It's an absolute pain to get that wretched piece of golden fruit without even using the Dash, so...
i have not heard this song in a year and having it come on in my playlist i made at the perfect time, right as i finished my homework, i was just jamming to it. I gave a comment on my worst syncing with this, and afterwards hiting the griddy, kazstocy or whatever it is kick, break dancing, all to this song
"It's the temple remix, featuring your boy Mix Master Theo!" I loved this game. I wish I had never played it, just so I could play it again for the first time.
Imagine walking into a dark, twisted Zelda temple filled with spikes, complicated travel mechanisms, and eyeball monsters, and all of a sudden you find a separate room, where you're greeted by... "Ah, salutations, my children! Are you all ready for your daily dose of smooth jazz?"
Chapter 5 A:Wandering in a lost dark creepy temple while trying to not be consumed by your own self destruct ideas Chapter 5 B:Alright, Time to get funky!
Lost count of how many times this song looped while doing the C-side. I was stuck on just the first screen for 40 minutes! 😂 My fave track in the game 😀
To this day every time I listen to this track I'm just so surprised by how fun it is while holding on to that vibe of mystery that made the original Mirror Temple tracks so good in the first place. Bloody hell it's good.

It's funny how the first time I played this game I was a 12 year old kid with anxiety problems and years after (and partly because of this game) I'm now more of a Theo kind of guy that makes stupid jokes when everything seems to be going wrong.
Much love to Lena Raine, 2-Mello, and all who worked on the masterpiece of modern art called Celeste 💖
oh my FUCKING GOD THIS IS ART, THIS IS A KISS TO MY EAR AND MY HEART
This is how you make a good remix. He took the skeleton of the original song and completely changed the genre/tone
For some reason, out of all the highlights of this song, the tiny phrase at 2:46 is like actual crack for me. The way that voice flows smoother than any sentence I’ll ever utter in my life is honestly addictive as hell.
A-Side temple: Depression, anxiety and suffering 💀
B-Side temple: Epic jazz vibes 🎶
Celeste is one of the best indie games of the 2010's.
*all time
Along with UNDERTALE and hollow knight
not only indies. its better than 99% of AAA games imo
It is impossible to get bored listening to this. It is such a banger I can listen to it literally all day ( it goes so well with rainy days too try it ;) )
I keep coming back at this constantly. This is such a good track
Same
Yup
So good. That jazz synth gives me some major Air vibes
This is a tremendous masterpiece.
SPOILER WARNING
You know, recently, I made a discovery about the Mirror Temple.
Damn.
at least now i know of cycles of healings as well as cycles of hurt... thanks man
Wow this is great analysis.
Problems
Ok, now that is a BIG spoiler for that chapter, put a warning please
i love how the actual mirror temple reflects anxiety, the thoughts of disassociating, not understanding your thoughts or feelings, and then the B side is so upbeat and happy. this game is a rollercoaster from start to finish.
This has to be one of my favorite B-sides, in music and in gameplay.
Absolute Banger
This is genuinely so good and rich with feeling, its perfect! I feel melqncholy, angst, regret and the piano is beautiful yet haunting, the strings add drama, i genuinely can't describe how much i love this
Honestly one of the greatest video game soundtracks to exist. This is in my top ten and has been for years. I love your music, Lena Raine.
WHEN THE TEMPLE IS A MIRROR
2 Mello just created a new genre - Funky Depression
Frustrations abound during this particular B-Side, but the music more than makes up for it. Especially the room with the 4 Spirit Locks and those platforms that move when you dash.
I think I died a lot in that room until I figured it out. My boss was grinning like a Cheshire cat when he saw my slip-ups.
*EDIT, 14TH DEC 2018:* It was a pity, in a way, when I had to leave that workplace back in July 2018, for a job up north.
Thanks for having me around, Kendrick! (the boss of *VR Lab Subang Jaya* , the place I once worked for, since October 2016.)
God bless ya.
SaviourV Your boss was watching you play?
EmblemBlade9 The boss I've got is a rather cool guy. That, and I'm working at a VR games place, and when there's no customers, I play a few games, VR or otherwise, to pass the time.
SaviourV Cool! Was it just on a PC then, or did you have a console there?
We run all our games with the HTC Vive hardware, and of course, Steam software. ^_^
In other words, we use PCs for our VR needs. In my case, there's one PC that functions as a test area for newer VR games, so I downloaded Celeste on it, and played the heck out of it when business was a little slow.
Of course, my favourite VR games here include Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, and Space Pirate Trainer. The latter's good for fancy footwork while avoiding enemy fire. ^_^;
On a side note, if anyone knows how to jump off spikes effectively without dying on them, like I've seen in several Golden Flying Strawberry vids of Chapter 1-C, do let me know. It's an absolute pain to get that wretched piece of golden fruit without even using the Dash, so...
2Mello really just threw all the “fear and anxiety” parts of the song away and up and said “Ya like jazz?”
i have not heard this song in a year and having it come on in my playlist i made at the perfect time, right as i finished my homework, i was just jamming to it. I gave a comment on my worst syncing with this, and afterwards hiting the griddy, kazstocy or whatever it is kick, break dancing, all to this song
I never played this game, but this sounds amazing. I'm going to play it.
"It's the temple remix, featuring your boy Mix Master Theo!"
I loved this game.
Kelpy G 😳
Speaking of Zelda the Piano at the beginning is similar to temple of droplets in Minish Cap
I feel like this would happen in Candence of Hyrule
Best Soundtrack of Celeste
celeste has the best ost i swear
you don't have to.
also i am an adhd author too.
@@mamaluigimusic commenting so that i have proof i listen to Lana Del Rey
I don't play celeste, I'm just here for the music.
Chapter 5 A:Wandering in a lost dark creepy temple while trying to not be consumed by your own self destruct ideas
Chapter 5 B:Alright, Time to get funky!
As someone who never played celeste and found this song by a youtube mix, i can confirm this fucking slaps
Play it, it's like 2 dollars in steam rn due to summer sale
You won't regret
@@mayobrr 2 dollars is a lot in my country lol
@@BwanNotHere oh damn nvm then
@@BwanNotHereIt's $2 in the US and cheaper in other countries. You can check the price if you'd like, it shouldn't be too expensive.
I absolutely love this song
This track really took away the pain of repeatedly dying.
This song is the only reason I managed to come even close to finishing this incredibly difficult level, goddam
"Ok this one is straight up impossible" SO HOW TF DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO IT ???????
Lost count of how many times this song looped while doing the C-side.
I was stuck on just the first screen for 40 minutes! 😂
My fave track in the game 😀
This is one of if not the best song in the entire soundtrack!
You already know I'm going to be listening to this for hours. It has so much substance that it never gets tiring to listen to.
i just love this song to much, one of my favorite songs
This song is 11/10 and you cant say otherwise
ITS THE TEMPLE REMIX, FEATURING YA BOI, MIX MASTER THEOOOO
This is absolutely the best B Side remix. Not even up for debate
To this day every time I listen to this track I'm just so surprised by how fun it is while holding on to that vibe of mystery that made the original Mirror Temple tracks so good in the first place. Bloody hell it's good.
3 years ago this song was recommended to me on spotify without me knowing nothing about celeste
3 years in the future i'm here waiting for my HRT appointment which is now in 7 days, thank you celeste s2
Normal Mirror Temple: Scary and full of anxiety
B-side: *Jazz music starts*
Top 3 best B side songs
This song manages have smooth jazz and mostly keeps the sinister feeling of the mirror temple. It’s absolutely amazing
It's funny how the first time I played this game I was a 12 year old kid with anxiety problems and years after (and partly because of this game) I'm now more of a Theo kind of guy that makes stupid jokes when everything seems to be going wrong. I'll forever remember Theo's technique for anxiety, the most useful thing I've ever learned in videogames (aside from pacience)
This sounds good :D
Anyone else listen to this version instead because the regular version makes you too anxious? I had this on a loop for 26 minutes
My favorite celeste track, everything from the melody to the vibe I just adore so much.
I never knew Jazz with suffering could be so great!
