Constricted Marcoma sounds like a diagnosis a dermatologist might make. 😆 Thanks for the journey Sharmon; love that you include the critters along with the shells. 🐚💕
Thanks for the shell hunt today and thank you so much for your upbeat attitude when you're hunting for shells! I love hunting shells and you're so happy on the beach that it makes me happy too! Thanks Sharmon!
The crabby dance with his claws!! Whoo! He had opinions! 😆😉 What a lovely haul. I notice you pointed out the difference between your keyhole sand dollars and the sand dollars I mentioned that I found on the Washington coast. Isn't that fascinating!? I also LOVE the eyes on that Florida Fighting Conch. 😆 So googly! Thank you for the fun beach walk!
Do you ever dump your Florida fighting conchs off in a pile before you leave the beach because you have so many at home already? When we went there there were two piles of them when we came down, but none on the beach anywhere. Sooooo happy someone left some for us.!
I have not dumped my Fighting Conchs in a while, so that glorious pile wasn't from me - but I'm so happy you took some! I have been known to pick through the "discard" piles on the beach. One persons beach trash is another persons beach treasure!
This was a fabulous day in paradise!! I so love this spot of yours.. the whole kit and kabootle of treasures would look like home on my table!!! Thank you for sharing with us..listening to beach time was certainly like being there today!
Hi Sharmon!! Always so fun watching you shell Ft Myers. I love that beach. Loved all the live critters and the way you handle them with care. You just make my week every Sunday with your happiness on the beach shelling, you are my therapy for the week ahead!! I think God made it possible for you to live in Florida so that you could bring all your beachy goodness to hundreds of us who can't be there!! You do a wonderful job!! I just want to say " Thank you so much". 😊😎😍!!
We just got here on Captiva and found an amazing collection of shells. I have them soaking in soapy water and they will dry over night. I was absolutely thrilled and my kiddos creativity sparked as they found so many shells. Now we’re making a big art piece for our homeschool room😂
Hello everybody! Hope you are well this evening! What a great shelling day you had, darling! It's almost like summer saying farewell until next summer! So glad to see you enjoying yourself! I enjoy seeing you happy! Until next week, happy shelling, Sharmon! R
After that trip so Sanibel I wasn't expecting all that much but holy cow there were so many great finds! Plus the critter encounters just make the trip complete. I hope those storms aren't giving you too much trouble!
Sherman, this was another fantastic shelling experience! Thanks! You know…..I love the precision of the banding on nutmeg shells and the “2” corkscrew swirls at the tip.
Hi, What a fun day! That first crab was so funny to watch! He must have been harassed by birds early. The little tiny shells were so cute! I look forward to seeing your beach adventures. Take care! ❤
Dear Sharmon, Wow, Fort Meyers Beach was very good to you! What an amazing haul of shells!😍 I've never seen a pitted murex before. At least, I can't remember it. Congratulations on finding that shell, as well as the wentletrap! Yay!🙌🏻 That blue clawed crab was hilarious. Like he was playing the castanets. 😂 Thank you for taking us/me to your most favourite part of the beach. It really is so beautiful there! I've said it before, your videos are my way out of feeling ill, and not thinking about that I'm bedridden and can't do anything. When it's "Beach Time," I close my eyes and imagine that I'm at the beach with you, with my feet in the water and feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. I love that moment so much! Thank you for incorporating that in your videos! My dear Sharmon, I hope you have a wonderful week. And I'm sending you lots of love and hugs, xoxo ❤, Ilona
When I record "Beach Time," I try to find a pretty spot, with the lighting just right (and no people if I can manage) with hopefully a bird or two making an appearance....and so many people say they close their eyes - LOL! I am thrilled I can transport you away to a place that brings you peace. I wish I could do more for you ❤️ Sending you hugs, sunshine, health and love from Florida! 🌴🌊🐚❤️
Great shelling, Sharman. I think you were giggling the whole time you were on the beach. I don’t blame you, I would been giggling if I had been as lucky as you. Looking forward to your beach trip next week. ♥️🐚♥️
Thank you, Charmaine. I love your content & shelling with you! God bless you from Mi in Hawaii ❤ PS. My faves are the Crown Concs & little pink ones. All of them really, and even barnacles 😊❤
I found my first nutmeg. I sat down in a pile of shells, and the first shell I found was the nutmeg. I found so many tiny’s. I sat there for almost 2 hours. ❤ Loved your video this week. ❤❤
Congrats on your nutmeg! I have a FOMS (Fear of missing Shells) so I have to be on the move. Maybe one day I'll give the shell piles some attention, but I'm usually walking scanning the beach 🐚
I know it may sound strange but I'd love to see a video of just you using your tools (dental pick etc...) to clean some shells. There is something so satisfying about watching the beach stuff being removed...like oiling a dry wood table...that magical transformation. Gorgeous walk as always...makes me want to move there.
Loved the blue crab! They are the sassiest of the crabs I think. Very aggressive. I watch Oliver Chavis from Salty Reflections handle them very carefully!! That first lace murex was a beautiful color. Apparently the farther north, the more muted the colors on those colorful moon snails. I hardly ever find any with color but I know them by their shape.😊 That second lace was really nice! FMB really likes you Sharmon! xxoo
Yeah, that crab didn't want me handling it at all. Funny because the calico crabs are so docile. I saw a video where the person was harvesting the crown conchs to eat. The pile of shells they left behind was insane!!!
Thank you for taking me on your virtual beach treasure hunt with you. I’ve been hospitalized with walking pneumonia for the past week, and now I’m back home recovering but still not completely over it. I’m still a bit weak and coughing up gunk from my lungs. I tell ya, it’s not fun at all. After I’m fully recovered, I need a life saving surgery. I’m born with a defective heart valve (aortic valve stenosis) very serious so this will be my third surgery in my lifetime. I have been living with my own valve my whole life which is now retiring so I need a replacement to prolong my life. Hopefully I’ll feel like myself again and strong as a racehorse soon. Thank you again for the beach walks. They give me peace and hope that one day I’ll go there to that beautiful place. Take care and God bless you! ❤
I just love Sunday’s! Always look forward to seeing all your treasures! Hopefully I’ll have some good luck this coming week as we visit Hilton Head. Not expecting your beautiful finds, but really looking forward to bringing home some of my own treasures. Wish me luck. 😎
Holy shell day! What an amazing day, so many beautiful shells, the colorful moon snails are gorgeous! So many honey holes , I would have been in heaven ❤That little crab was cracking me up, tuff little guy🤣🤣as always thanks so much for sharing your beach walks and all of your treasures ❤ wishing you a wonderful week Sharmon..❤️
Hello Sharmon! Wow what a great shelling success. So many beautiful treasures. I loved the conchs with all the ripple patterns, that giant angel wing and beach bowl, that fabulous turkey wing and got a special enjoyment from the antics of the blue crab. I love his feistiness. The little docile crab was cute too. I also adore the spoonbills. So pretty but so funny too when they are looking for food. Have a wonderful week, my friend, and thanks for sharing.
For summertime when the shelling isn’t so great …you did pretty darn good 😃 you mentioned about getting more discerning as the years go by ….and not picking up so many shells ..but honestly …it’s never going to happen….shells will always call to you and there will always be a pattern or cold shade you don’t have 😃
I just asked another sheller if I was ever going to stop picking up shells. She said the same thing - basically that the shells will always call me, so I'm going to stop trying to stop 😂 And I was just thinking you could probably use some supplies. Let me know as I have plenty to share!
I thought you were pulling my leg with hexagonal murex (what's next, a trapezoid murex?) but holy cow it's so pretty! I didn't even know they existed! Now I need to find one of those too!
When we were down a visiting Fort Myers beach a few weeks back we got chased onto the beech by the insects too! It was aweful, we got caught in the rain getting off the beach so they didn’t bother us as much then. We didn’t get to the beach at low tide that day so I wasn’t able to walk down as you walked. Thanks for your wonderful videos
I am not glad summer is over! I love the quiet, steamy beaches that I have to myself. I'll be complaining about the cold in a few months - don't you worry! 😂
Loved every minute! The spoonbills were a special treat. Not sure if you caught it in the playback, but the broken banded tulip at 22:22 was ALIVE! Broken aperture notwithstanding, he seemed just fine. I'm amazed at how resilient these animals can be, like when you find shells with obvious repair lines. I think the angel wings and channeled duck clams and other very delicate bivalves live buried in the mud where they are protected, but I didn't know angel wings aren't hinged! Thanks for passing along those fun critter facts!
Holy cow that 22:22 tulip! I didn't see it was alive until I watched the playback. And even then it's just that little tiny movement that gives it away. I'm amazed at how resilient they are too. It's incredible that getting stranded in the high wrack line can be their demise, but if they lose a good chunk of their shell they can repair themselves. I love the beach and everything it teaches me!!!
I think the nutmegs and lightening whelks are my favorites. Can't wait to spend my three weeks in Florida with my sister Jan/Feb timeframe. My third year being able to visit - some habits are good to have!
If anyone is interested in finding the pacific version of the Sand Dollars, Morro Bay beach in California was a great spot to find them. I also need to look up some of the clams out here, I found some that look a LOT like a Sunray Venus clam but I'm sure it's not...
First off, I Love the beach time❤ I am curious to know your thoughts on how you felt when you first started shelling and how you feel now? You sound so thrilled to find shells that you have probably found a thousand times before 😊 and I so enjoy watching you do it😂. Wish I lived close to a beach. I get to Florida about once every 5 or six YEARS 😮.. ..
I'm actually curious as to how I'll feel in the future too! I am still in awe that these beautiful shells are just sitting on the beach for anyone to discover. And I've been out there - shoot hundreds of times now and each time is just as thrilling. I might find a "new-to-me" shell, or see a new creature or find a shell that I've only found in the pages of my shell books. I do not think I will ever tire of looking for beach treasures. At least not in the near future. I have only lived here for 5 years and I can't wait to see what the next 5 years will bring!
I should have said I heard you say it’s Fort Meyers Beach, but there are many many numbered parking entrances, and it got my daughter and I lost this July😂
I so want to visit Florida again. lol. oh my gosh, those crazy darn mosquitos and no see um's. They killed me when I was there. That crab had me LMAO. lol. The Sunray venus clams remind me of spaceships when the lights come down to earth. ;) The Florida worm snail is like a teenager. Love it. Love those colorful moon snails. So pretty. I really want to just reach through the screen to get some of those shells. lol. How do you find the doves from the sand dollar? I had a broken one from my trip in May but did not see the doves. Thank you for taking us with you on your beach walk. :)
I agree with you that the Carditas are highly underrated! They are such pretty little shells! I have a few that are flame orange red and they are absolutely gorgeous. The reason that the bleach works on the beach glue is that chlorine is highly attracted to calcium and it forms calcium chloride ions, so the beach gunk is literally attracted to the chlorine and binds with it. At least that’s kinda the simple explanation. Of course the algae and other organic stuff is just killed off by the chlorine, but the reason that the beach glue comes off so easily is because it’s so attracted to the chlorine. My chemistry knowledge is mostly confined to ceramic glazes, lol, but every now and then it comes in handy for random information. 😂 and as one of your long time patrons, I can’t speak for everyone, but personally I don’t want you to save special things just for us. I heard another UA-camr that I watch (Wes at High Falutin’ Low Carb) refer to Patreon as “The Tip Jar for the Internet“ and that’s exactly how I see it. You bring us beach joy every week and it’s so appreciated. ❤️💯
Thank you for that feedback on what content you like to see where. I do want to give my Patreons a little sometime extra, but it does seem cruel to not share with everyone. It's something I'm still figuring out. And THANK YOU for the chemistry lesson! I know bleach is really quite slippery right out of the bottle, but I was curious what is going on with the reactions. And the way it dissolves the fighting conch periostracum is pretty spectacular.
Bleach feels slippery because it’s a chemical base (as opposed to an acid). But the reason it’s good at removing the periostracum is because it breaks down organic cells, which is why when you get it on your hands and forget to wash it off right away, it will turn your fingertips white on top of the skin. It’s dissolving the dead skin cells we all have on the very surface of our skin. The periostracum is very much a layer of (on an empty shell) dead skin cells, so it’s the same thing as when we get the white layer of skin cells that slough off. Bleach is a really interesting chemical. And I am a little bit nerdy. 😂
Sharmon, would adding beach sand to your delicates container buffer the sand dollars during travel home? I’m just thinking that the extra “cushion” might keep them in place, and in one piece. I LOVE your videos!!!
Other people have suggested tissues or bubble wrap. I think the sand would be too heavy, however I have heard of people filling their urchins with sand so they don't break!
I have reached out to Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation Rentals and I might start showcasing some of their properties and show how close it is to the beach. I haven't started anything quite yet through. Here is their website: sancapislandvacationrentals.com If you end up booking with them, if you can use code BeachLife, they will know I sent you! I hope this helps!
Hi Sharmon, can you tell me where you entrance is to FMB that you begin your video at? I’ve never been to SWF and I’ll be there in early Nov. and just want to know where a good starting point is. I look forward to watching your videos on Sunday evenings. Thanks so much!
Are you seeing any Disc Docinas? I have not seen many on your videos and there used to be 100's of them on the beach, at least at Sanibel. I really liked the Lightening Whelk with the barnacles, made it look lacy. Great walk, how long did it take to find all your treasure, hours?
Hi Sharmon, I just left there yesterday and visited many of the areas you go shelling at. May I ask you when you videoed this episode? I was there for a week and none of the beaches had calm waters. They were very ruff. Marco was the best shelling beach. But I’m blessed to have been there on all the beaches, I was able to be on because I will never be able to come back. I’m just wanting to know, since I never came across calm waters.
I filmed this on Thursday, September 5th. I typically film my walks a few weeks before they air. I would be too stressed out if I had to out and film, edit and post all in the same week, so I give myself some "buffer" time just in case. The winds and weather play a huge role in what ends up on the beach.
Blessings in an abundance of the faith. I salute you. 😘🙏Grace and peace be unto you and to this place. God bless you. 💫Thank you. Will you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal saviour??? I do. 🌏
Hi Sharmon, I’m a Florida native in central Florida, my 12 year old daughter and I would love to shell at this beach, is it ok to ask you the name of the beach? Or do you keep that secret for business purposes? I do not have nor want a UA-cam channel and I like my job so don’t need to sell seashells, just would love to know the name of this public beach. ❤
This was filmed at Fort Myers Beach. Just keep in mind the beach is about 7 miles long and I personally prefer the southern end of the beach for beachcombing.
Hello again. I have a question. At 29:58 when you picked up the top snail, you said it had "maker?" "And if you soak it too long in bleach you can see the maker?" Is that the pearl like lining inside of some shells? I've learned the names of many shells from you. Love your videos! Thank you!
Nacre - another fancy word for mother-of-pearl. And yes, that nacre is made by a few critters, the top snail, the chestnut turban and the pen shell are a few that come to mind. If you were to leave the shell in acid too long, it would expose that beautiful pearl-like materials under neath. I found some fresh water mussels that the entire shell is nacre. It's so pretty!
To do a bleach dip on just one shell what would the portion size of that and water? Or if I do a whole bleach of multiple shells. What do you recommend?thanks!
Oh good question! Yes the crab will molt (shed its shell) when it's ready for one that's a little bigger. The crab looked like an adult, but they too will molt their shell. Just not as often as the little crabs.
Doves. From inside the sand dollar that broke. There are 5 "doves" inside every sand dollar, which are actually the teeth that the animal uses to grind it's food.
I'm sorry I didn't explain that better. The 2nd sand dollar I picked up broke, and I put a few of the "doves" on the shell board with the other shells. Here is a previous video where I share what goes on inside the sand dollars: ua-cam.com/video/6EWKKhTgyvE/v-deo.html
If you could only go once, what beach in South Florida would you want to go to. I've been trying to schedule a vacation, but I'm getting so confused with the places to stay... I just want to walk the beach and find shells.
It's hard because the beach surroundings are so different. I love Fort Myers Beach, especially the south end of the island and it's slowing coming back with stores and restaurants opening. SW Florida has many great beaches to choose from. Sanibel is great for shelling but so is Marco Island. I would be a terrible travel agent!
He is just schlepping along ..lol. Never been to Fort Myers Beach but the water on the West Coast of Florida is much prettier than on the East Coast of Florida. Definitely don’t find these type of creature is on Orchard Beach.
The beaches in SWFL are simply the best. I've shelled over on the East Coast and that is super fun to see different species but the sheer variety of shells that can be found here is really quite amazing.
????????????????? I want to go shelling at fort meters watching you on UA-cam could you please share to me a good Beachfront Hotel to stay at? Thank for any information you can share with me

Happy happy happy trip thank you 🤩🤩🤩💜💜
Thank you for coming along!!! 💜
Lovely finds! I especially like the horse conchs (haven’t found any yet)
Thank you ❤🤩
You’re welcome 😊
What an awesome video! I loved shelling on Ft. Myers beach! I never wanted to leave and one week wasn't nearly long enough ❤
I am SO lucky I live here or you would have to drag me off the beach each time I left too!
Did you know there was butterflies or angels in the Sandollar? 🤩❤️🎉
We call them doves and yes! I am going to show them in an upcoming video.
BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS!
Nice finds!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! 💜
I loved the Angel wing with the barnacles. I’d would have tried to keep t like that.
LOL I was wondering if you saw that banded tulip LOL..... No they walked by it and said "Oh a horse conch, WHAT A SHAME!" hahaha
I absolutely love your videos
Thank you!!!
So you say those barnacles are quite heavy. No wonder that crab was crabby!!!😮
😂
Great day
I would have put that big horse conch in my yard with a plant through it 😊
I think the nutmegs and lightening whelks are my favorites. Can't wait to spend my three weeks in Florida with my sister Jan/Feb timeframe. My third year being able to visit - some habits are good to have!
Also - where are the best places to park at Ft Myers beach??
That is such a great time to be down here shell hunting!
If you send me an email I'll tell you where I park: swfbeachlife@gmail.com
I have never seen a live shark eye. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Sorry! I am working on securing parking for myself when I go down there so hopefully I can share where I park soon!
This is an older video, but I broke a sand dollar open to see the doves inside: ua-cam.com/video/6EWKKhTgyvE/v-deo.html
Maybe put some water in the container so that they float instead of bump into each other. Just an idea. Or a mini cooler set the container in it
Thanks for the tips!
So much fun! Haven't watched in a while and very glad I did. Just curious- what do you do with all of your treasures?
I get asked that question a lot, so I made a video to share my shells: ua-cam.com/video/5vq9DJbCJDA/v-deo.htmlsi=UsnaEM_Goq2QLO08
Sun ray venus clam shell looks like a sunrise on the top
Hello 👋 Sharmon
Fighting conch maybe have a young mind with those zig zags 😂❤
LOL! Shells that are young at heart - I love it!
@@deniseyoung5385 Fascinating!! Thank you for the info!
❤
I’m curious what kind of crab that was and how often they molt their shells. I wonder how quickly the barnacles grow. Hmmmmm…
Planning a trip down in December, you have inspired us to go shelling...any suggestions of where to stay in the Sanibel/Captiva area??? Thanks
I have reached out to Sanibel Captiva Island Vacation Rentals and I might start showcasing some of their properties and show how close it is to the beach. I haven't started anything quite yet through.
Here is their website: sancapislandvacationrentals.com
If you end up booking with them, if you can use code BeachLife, they will know I sent you!
If you shoot me an email I will tell you where I parked! swfbeachlife@gmail.com
Are you seeing any Disc Docinas? I have not seen many on your videos and there used to be 100's of them on the beach, at least at Sanibel. I really liked the Lightening Whelk with the barnacles, made it look lacy. Great walk, how long did it take to find all your treasure, hours?
Funny, I picked up a few dosinias last night. They are still here for sure and they show up a lot when we get our storms.
What's a good.spot in January? I especially love Marco, but what are your thoughts? Praying for your safety this week.
January is a good time for shelling - even in Marco!
Fort Meyers Beach, as she mentioned in the beginning of the video.
7:18 Ft. Myers - I wondered about that, too. Aren't her videos the best!
7:18 Ft. Myers - I wondered about that, too. Aren't her videos the best!
This was filmed at Fort Myers Beach. Just keep in mind the beach is about 7 miles long and I personally prefer the southern end of the beach for beachcombing.
It's Fort Myers Beach.
Need help with a shell ID if you can. Over 10 inches complete, probably. Oh, cannot share photo. Where can I post?
Shoot me an email: swfbeachlife@gmail.com
What end of FMB were you shelling?
Sorry I sent the txt b4 watching the whole video. I seen you were down towards Lovers Key. Luv your videos!!
I'm working on getting everyone parking info too!
@SWFBeachLife That would be Great!!
@@SWFBeachLife alright, great. I had the right idea then. Thank you for clarification! 😊
I found my first ever gaudy nautica it's a baby one, but you don't find them on Jax Beach
Yay!! Congrats!
To do a bleach dip on just one shell what would the portion size of that and water? Or if I do a whole bleach of multiple shells. What do you recommend?thanks!
I normally soak the green, grimy and encrusted shells in full strength bleach overnight.
@ thank you!
Do those crabs shed their shell? To get rid of the barnacles?
Oh good question! Yes the crab will molt (shed its shell) when it's ready for one that's a little bigger. The crab looked like an adult, but they too will molt their shell. Just not as often as the little crabs.
@@SWFBeachLife Thank you!
Did you film and post this video from Sunday? I’ve always wondered the timeline of when you film vs. when it is posted
I filmed this on 9/5. I normally film a few weeks before I share the videos but they are usually pretty recent.
When do you consider winter shelling? I’m considering a trip down with my sister.
I really l think "winter" shelling is December - March. Basically when it's cold - LOL!
Sorry but did she ever mention the name of this public beach or is it a secret??
Fort Myers beach
Sorry! This is Fort Myers Beach AND I'm working on sharing my parking tips!
She always posts it after her intro on screen and sometimes says it too. It was there. You might have just missed it!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤
At the end, Are those sharks teeth laying on the table beside the sand dollars? I don't believe you mentioned what those were?
@@SWFBeachLife oh I see! Thank you!
@@SWFBeachLife thank you so much.
🥰❣👍
He is just schlepping along ..lol. Never been to Fort Myers Beach but the water on the West Coast of Florida is much prettier than on the East Coast of Florida. Definitely don’t find these type of creature is on Orchard Beach.
The beaches in SWFL are simply the best. I've shelled over on the East Coast and that is super fun to see different species but the sheer variety of shells that can be found here is really quite amazing.
?????????????????
I want to go shelling at fort meters watching you on UA-cam could you please share to me a good Beachfront Hotel to stay at? Thank for any information you can share with me
I have not stayed at any beach front properties on Fort Myers except for the Pink Shell a few years ago. A lot has changed since Hurricane Ian.
