    • @roncannarella

I'ved in several towns that had fruit loops. Usually they are in a quiet, slightly out of the way part of town where cars go around the block and tricks stand in doorways. A couple of trips around the look end up in a conversation with the driver to either close the deal, or go your own way. These towns were Burlington, Vermont, Hartford, Connecticut and Honolulu, Hawaii (for the trans women and their admirers. The use of Fruit Loop for doing the loop inside a club is (to me) a newer term that I have only heard on the internet. In my group it's understood that in the hour before the bar closes, you can expect your friends to peel off and go solo to pick up their trick for the night. That's not a Fruit Loop - it's just the last chance for a hookup (especially if you didn't get the one you wanted at 11:00!)

Unfortunately I speak almost no Spanish and what I do speak I think is referred to as "Mexican". My parents wintered in Yuma, AZ for many years (only about 10 minutes from the Mexican border). I went down for two weeks every February and would pick up the odd word here and there. My problem is I translate literally from English to Mexican. For example, I am a large-sized (bodacious) woman and would say "mucho grande". At least I made every one laugh which is always a good thing.
Here in Canada our second official language is French. In Quebec French is the first official language and the Franco vs. Anglo laws are very strict. French Canadian is quite different sounding to the Parisian French. The Canadian French (Quebecois - accent over the first e and under the c) is quite guttural like German - down in the throat. To me Parisian French is fluid and sounds like a song. I took French at school for eight years full time and about 10 years later took 2 years of night school learning conversational French. The most I remember is from grade 3 because they taught us how to speak (not how to conjugate verbs)- so the alphabet, counting, hot & cold, right & left, seasons, etc. words you would use every day. The gender specific rules of grammar are the same (i.e. la fenetre, le livre). So silly to teach grammar first. How do you teach babies and then children to speak? First, words, then sentences and they usually grammar. Now that makes sense.
As for English, here in Canada our spelling (i.e. colour, honour, etc.) and measurements were like the British. Now, unfortunately the entire country went metric many years ago. I'm older so need to convert from metric to imperial or the other way all the time and some I can't convert at all like volume. Just a bit of trivia in case you ever come to Canada, the American gallon is only 5/8 (0.625) the size of the Canadian (British) gallon. Converting is easy just multiply number of American gallons by 0.625. So 10 American gallons would be only 6.25 Canadian gallons.
The States and Canada are so close geographically but in other ways so very far apart.
    Cathy
P.S. Canadian male gay slang is the same here in Canada as it is in the States. Don't know if there are differences from female gay to male gay slang. I'm a straight female. My gay friends are almost all men. Speaking of gay, Pride month is coming up in only a couple of weeks. May go to Toronto (used to live there) or may just stay here and go to pride here in London (Ontario). Enjoy wherever you decide to go!
P.P.S. Just found one of your posts and have subscribed. You make me laugh!
P.P.P.S. Andrew where are you from? Not being nosy but you have almost no accent (sound like you come from down this area in Canada - SW Ontario).
    CM

„Hola!“ and „Pura Vida“ ...pretty much all the spanish I needed when I was in Costa Rica for a month last year ...damn I miss this mentality - Vienna is basically a „who can be the grumpiest“ contest :3
I wonder whether you remember the meaning of any of those words - especially after drinking the vodka bull :P

Fun Fact For Yall: If you speak Spanish you can mostly understand French and vise versa, because they both originate from Latin so it'll be really easy.

Pfff I'm spanish and have had french classes for 8 years and my french is pretty terrible. It only got slightly better when I went on exchange to France one week, but since then it's declined a lot, I'd say I have about the same level of french that Andrew have of spanish.
I find english grammar and pronunciation much easier

Mikel Montoya it's more about practice, because of the different tounge talking placement, it will be kinda hard to get it right, but I'm not entirely sure how to do that. But if you are having trouble then I would suggest getting pronunciation apps

For people from Catalonia (Barcelona) it's easyer to understand languages like french and Italian because we know both spanish and Catalan and both come from latin. We can also understand some portugese too.
