I defiantly resonate with the tip where you take a break and chill for a second. Even coming back to it tomorrow will be helpful and you can tackle the problem with a recharged brain. Thanks for the video, Ill be trying my luck on replacing the ac this spring.
A recharged brain for sure makes better decisions than a stressed one. I feel like I have to relearn it every time I work on a tough project lol. Good luck on replacing the ac, feel free to come back with questions if you hit a pain point!
The only bad thing about these things is how cramped everything is under the hood. Big hands, little spaces and all that. Great job on fixing the A/C -- that's a must down here in the midwest!
Yeah for sure. Big hands and very small part clearances definitely don’t mesh. I have been extremely grateful the past couple of weeks during these 95 degree days that I replaced it when I did. Good ole Midwest
I'm looking at buying a 2000 Chevy Astro van cargo version not even 30 seconds into the vehicle running I noticed the AC compressor was smoking why it didn't lock up or blow the serpentine belt I don't know but the van has 200,000 miles is relatively rust-free and the guy wants 3000 for this vehicle and everybody's telling me they're worth it
Yeah I mean I think these vans are definitely a labor of love at this age. the ac compressor wasn't too tough of a swap out but it can be a sign that other things haven't been properly maintained (transmission, suspension, rust prevention etc.). I got mine for 3,500 and the brake line blew up the first day I had it while I was driving so you do get what you pay for. It is just a matter of if you want to spend some extra dough up front and hopefully save it on the repair side or vice versa.
@@ZachGuyLovesCars found out how to buy pass the AC without removing the pump or anything just a bracket and changing the belt to a non AC unit, the suspension visually doesn't look to bad, but I no that breaks well get done n break lines as well as flush all fluids n tune up, this is one of those work on it as you drive on it type of thangs,
Yeah for sure an options on the ac front. I wasn't willing to lose the ac even temporarily as it broke while it was a few weeks of 90 F lol. Definitely a work on it as you drive type of thang. Sounds like you've got a solid mindset around it. Best of luck! Also dropping a new video tonight on Astro drum brakes if you need to do those anytime soon!
@@ZachGuyLovesCars ya I currently live in Kansas and have had summer days in the 100-115 days ugh, but insulating me and building it out into a tiny home it's on the list mechanically that's more important first and creature comforts AC is mandatory,
I worked on vehicles for 40 years.. Frustration is part of it.. Then I say self.. You know this could be harder. You could be working on that Mercedes Benz..There is nothing easy about to fix on them..
Wow, the internet is so cool! Hello from the midwest of the US! I don't have 100% confirmation but I will need to touch up some rough spots so I will make a video when I get to that. What I can find so far is: 387E, 57, WA387E. Best of luck!
Hey! The job itself took me about 3 hours but that’s not accounting for taking it to a shop to get the fluid evac and then refilled so probably 5-6 all in! It was for sure a one day endeavor

Thank you for posting this....because I need to install a new ac compressor.
Of course! I hope it is helpful for ya and best of luck on the installation.

That’s a lot of wrenching! It could always definitely be worse. I helped a few friends with a Mercedes last year and phew the Astro is much easier
Great Job!I think I have the same color, do you know what the color code is? Greetings from Europe from Poland :D
