I wonder if the in-universe explanation is that it's meant to be, at least kinda, her "problem"; she doesn't have another personality in her head, she has an audience she's answering to.

@@adamcarlson2192 I remember some DC comics in the 60s that had the main character talking to the reader on the cover. But I don't think it was done within the comics (a quick check found an Adventure Comics from the 40s with Sandman on the cover talking to the reader. Another Green Lantern had GL holding his ring out to the reader and saying "Want it? It's yours"). A number of old comic covers had the characters pulling back the corner of the cover to reveal the pages inside. Others had the character actually reading the comic you held in your hand. They were called infinity covers because the character was reading a comic that had the character reading the comic on the cover and that comic had the character reading the comic on the cover etc.

You'd think that would make like a lot of his other MCU scenes not really possible, at least for a responsible person that knew that, but it sounds like the kind of crazy a comicbook would bring up without thinking of the real world consequences.

In the comics, during his 2 years on Saakar he fathered a child, but since he was the Hulk the entire time Bruce wouldn't know that.
Edit to add: In art school one of my teachers was a courtroom sketch artist and took us all to do sketches. There were all sorts of rules to it, basically resulting in you sketching someone without looking at them (witnesses get nervous, criminals get angry). That affects the quality quite a bit. Mine came out horrible.

She-Hulk was created because Stan Lee was worried that with the success of the Hulk TV show back then they would create a "lady Hulk" Marvel wouldn't own the rights to, so the comic was kinda rushed out -- eventually some writers (and thirsty artists) got involved to make it more interesting than the stock "I'm a girl version" it started as.

On the network news, they would show courtroom sketches whenever they covered a court case. Each network had their own artist so you could see the same trial in different styles. I don't think they started allowing cameras in courtrooms until the 90s. The main concern was that the cameras may be distracting. Even now, it's up to the judge to decide whether cameras will be permitted.

Cameras have only been allowed in courtrooms fairly recently, since sometime in the 1980's or 90's, and still are not allowed in federal courts at all. Sketch artists were therefore the only way to get any visual images from courtrooms. A whole set of rules developed around how they could be made so that they did not violate anyone's rights etc. and that contributes to why they look so bad.

The Sakaar spaceship from Thor Ragnarok, which I believe is Hulk's lover from that planet and she is tracking Hulk down by a tracking device implanted inside Hulk/Banner's body without Banner's knowledge. I think his lover is here to tell Hulk about their kid, yes Hulk was on that planet for 2 years and was a celebrity, so it's natural that he would have a love life. Hulk might have been acting up because Banner took him from his woman without knowing but most viewers thought it was because he got beaten by Thanos and was just scared but was lovesick. I believe that Banner didn't come to an agree with Hulk but found a way to suppress Hulk's persona without Hulk's approval. I believe before this series is over this strange Hulk lover will catchup with Dr. Banner while he is with his friends (Wong, She-Hulk, Abomination, Titania, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Sam Wilson) celebrating at Banner's bar on his island that Wong transport everyone there. Hulk's lover step inside the room and She-Hulk ask her who she was and she replied the mother of Hulk's son Caiera and right after that Hulk take over Banner's body which expand in size from smart Hulk to savage Hulk siize, as soon as Hulk hear and see his lover and then he aggressively starts to attack everyone at this superhero party.... I will stop here because all of this is my theories some or all might be correct just take this information with caustion or just delete from memory.

I agree the trailers did not do the show justice; it's a much stronger debut then I thought, and Tatiana Maslany did a great job as Jenn and the Hulk. I did roll my eyes at the 'cringe' scenes i.e. the bathoom scene and the male lawyer being an ass and easily dismissed. I also wish we could've seen more of what Jenn was talking about with controlling her anger because I think it would've given more weight to it. But still, a much better episode then I expected. When the trailers landed, I limited ALL of my criticism for their content.
Every comment I made included ways in which the show could *justify* the content of the trailers to make it ACTUALLY good, but that the trailers themselves were.... intentionally provocative, girlboss cringe.
I think my favourite was somebody declaring that Bruce was "mansplaining" being the Hulk. Imagine you've reached SUCH a level of sexism that you TRULY believe that a fictional character speaking to another fictional character about something in which they are the ONLY expert is bad EXCLUSIVELY because they happen to be a man. Didn't see media acknowledging this much :P
The sheer volume of toxicity and hate even MY tame criticism got really turned me off to the show. Especially when it's PERFECTLY reasonable to see a character minimising the trauma Bruce has gone through and think that's horrible. (and I stick my that assessment. Jenn having a trauma response and being angry about things that have happened is reasonable. People thinking that such reactions are HEALTHY is not. I lost count of the number of people claiming that women are simply better bc they might be murdered for being angry.... what WORLD do they live in? Jenn is ALLOWED to be kind of an ass and still be a great character. Just like Bruce)
Glad the show has more merit.
I think Maslany is SUCH good casting. I just hope the show runners don't lean into the wrong things, it's ALREADY a shame it's been so negatively received. Producers need to learn that courting controversy isn't ALWAYS a good thing, even if it serves to protect their egos "bc it's just haters"

Sadly, I don't think we'll see Bruce later on in the series, as he's credited as special guest star for this episode (it is called She-Hulk, after all), he was really just there for the origins story of Jennifer, that I felt a bit rushed in just about 30 mins, and her doing everything just fine, while Bruce had to struggle with Hulk for more than a decade.
But other than that, I'm eager to see her next adventures (or court cases, since the rest of the series seems to be leading to). I just assumed Bruce’s blood cells would be aggressive as his alter ego, which is likely why it moved through Jen’s body so quickly. Small amount of blood or not, cells multiply. Why is is weird that a small amount of aggressive blood cells multiplying and spreading would be enough to change her? Her own unique DNA seems to have helped as well. For all we know, she’s probably better with things because of her extra (balanced?) X chromosome 😉. Though Bruce’s traumatic childhood, his father was a dick, but I’m not sure the MCU made that clear or not in the reboot. Bruce’s transformation manifested his trauma into the Hulk. The fact that Bruce assumed Jen would have her own beast to deal with seems to suggest that he didn’t think the Hulk was birthed from past trauma but his transformation…maybe his father wasn’t abusive after all.

I'm still not sold on the show but I'm definitely more interested in it now than I was just from the trailers.

don't you want the show to be better than the trailer?? If a trailer shows all the best parts, I am normally disappointed in the show

As usual, solid first episode that established a new character in the mcu. As usual, everything that made this episode good (the hulks dynamics) will disappear, to make time for an enormous but clumsy menace that will resolve itself. I had high hopes for ms marvel, but they manage to screw up everything hero-related in these shows :(

I really REALLY did not like how the show portrayed Jen before she left the beach house. That whole bit about how she doesn't need to learn to control her anger because she already knows how to do it, and all the crap she said to Bruce before she ran him over with the Jeep, and how she punched him and started a fight with him was a really strange choice. That was awful behavior on her part and the show portrayed it like it was cool and she was being awesome. Other than that, it was a pretty solid episode IMO.

I liked it, it showed that she thinks she has it handled and she really doesn't as much as she thinks. Being a lawyer she's used to being in control, and in a real life scenario I'm in pharmacy and deal with psych patients and "Oh hey you're actually schizophrenic and need this medication to stay sane" SOUNDS logical but it is never so easily received. People just easily accepting their reality isn't realistic. So I like that she reacted like a person would.
But then, as a woman who's usually told to not be "emotional" all the time women do really have that pressure to control themselves all the time, whereas men are "cool" and "macho" when they hit. So it all made sense.

The show did not portray it that way - you took it that way. The episode even literally ends proving that Bruce was right, that she can NOT escape it. And this is also a problem when people try to judge an entire show on one episode, especially when they're clearly not familiar with the source material (though they all but flat-out say why Bruce had more difficulty - because he has another personality from mental and emotional trauma) or even actually paid attention to the episode.

@@MrKrory They kind of hand held the audience and made it very clear as to why the differences and even literally did the whole "oh you just have to be better cuz men, men, men" and people are still judging it like, "but why".
This was literally a long episode explaining "why"...

@@Saphthings 100% agreed, I took it as her knowing she has enough control to handle normal life as a woman in a high-powered job and (understandably) assuming that it would just transfer over to the stress of all this when in actuality it's an entirely different level of stress. I know they're not going to go into the family history of the Banner family because god knows if just self-destructive alcoholism is seen as too much to be marketable for a wider audience, all of that DEFINITELY wouldn't be, but the way Jen and Bruce process similiar trauma in such different ways has always been one of my favourite things about their relationship so I like that they're hinting at that a bit.
