  • 84 years ago on 14th November 1935, the Noorduyn Norseman had its first flight. Here is a video of our Norseman R-AF LN-TSN and Chief Pilot Finn Terje Skyrud, from the first flight of the 2019 season on a beautiful summer evening. For everyone onboard, it was a memorable experience and journey back in time, of a historic aircraft and true flying.

In the 60's I was living in Montreal and in the summers of 1962 and 1963 , I had summer jobs at Noorduyn Norseman . An uncle owned the company , 2 cousins and I were kept busy stripping salvaged Norsemans down to their frame . We also performed other work .
We also worked on PBY's and Grumman Goose and DC-3's . Our work was grunt work , seat removal , polish the hull etc , but I enjoyed the environment . My love for the sound of a radial engine stems from my summers at Noorduyn .
Noorduyn was located at Cartierville airport , home of Canadair , so at lunch time I would sit outside waiting for a F86 Sabre or F104 Starfighter to land or take off . Great memories

My father worked for Noorduyn during the war. He loved this plane. I wish he were alive to see this.

..........the Norseman was and still is a great piece of engineering..........but the pilot, in this video, is a long way from the bush pilot leagues............! Great little video, thanks !

Yes, the pilot seems to lack experience and I'd fix that tailwheel shimmy. But wonderful video of a sweet aircraft. My favorite. :)

McMurray Air Services Ltd. operated one in the early sixties. I was six when I flew on theirs. From Ft. McMurray to Embarras Airport

Thank you for this fine video - and Greetings from Vermont!
f.y.i.: Once upon a time, 2 dormant complete Norseman languished in a hangar in Orange, Massachusetts back around 1980-81. Both were complete, but in very poor condition after a period (years?) of use as Jump planes for sport skydiving there. They had the rough appearance of "rode hard and put away wet" and had already been dormant for some time. The understanding locally was they had been retired from use - possibly due to failed fabric test, or the FAA learned they had wood wing structures, disqualifying them from commercial ops. Within a few short years they were both gone. Regretfully, I didn't track where they went from there. Any hounds out there up for a hunt?

Did my best Andrew Smith: There were 5 Noorduyn Norseman at one time operating for Jumptown Skydiving club at the Orange Municipal Airport in Orange, Massachusetts. So where are they now ?
      1) N69795 Crashed at Orange in July 79
      , scrapped.
      2) N1207 Written off and used for parts after flipping on runway in Lakewood NJ. Oct. 1970.
      3) N61853 In Markings of the USAAF Air Transport Command. Panoramic windows and wings under going rebuild. Owned by Dave Elliott, Boulder, CO
      4) N13340 Registered to Grass River Lodge, The Pas, Manitoba Canada as CF-BHU on April 27, 2001.
      5) N7990K Noorduyn Norseman c/n 111 assigned 27 Dec 2002 In Willow, Alaska Civil registration, N7990K, cancelled 24 Oct 2012 This one is a mystery; what happened after 24 Oct 2012, I lost all traces of this aircraft....very odd !
      Hope this answers your question.

@@palco22 Thank you for the information Philippe deRepentigny: Excellent research and/or record keeping! I recall that 2012 when the registration of N7990K was cancelled may have been near a deadline set by the FAA Aircraft Registry for owner compliance with a change requiring periodic verification or update of registrations. I also recall how in addition to simple updates, physical addresses may have become required for registered owners.
