- NATO foreign ministers meeting in Brussels have been debating a 100 billion euro fund for Ukraine.
The five-year funding would be part of a push for the western military alliance to take over from the US-led group that currently coordinates weapon shipments to Ukraine. NATO is also seeking to reduce Ukraine's dependence on Washington, where 60 billion dollars in Ukrainian aid has been stalled in Congress for months.

I was a US Navy SSBN sailor stationed out of Holy Loch Scotland during the Cold War. FBM Refit Site One in Holy Loch cost the US taxpayers billions of dollars a year - money well spent at the time. After the Soviet Union fell we closed Site One because we didn't feel that the Russian threat was as dangerous as it once was. We decommissioned dozens of US ballistic missile subs in the 1990's. Too bad so many US taxpayers forgot how much the Cold War cost us. Funding Ukraine until they defeat Russia is a way to prevent a second Cold War... something that everyone in the West should support.
What will money can do if theres no soldiers to utilize it? 😂, Ukraine military is getting extinct and Zlensky having hard time recruting, this money will just end up to some politicians pockers 😂

Logically, it makes no sense. He would have nothing to gain and everything to lose with such a reckless course of action.
It is more likely than not that the Kremlin had genuinely hoped that Minsk Accords 1 & 2 would have been the end of the fighting. Leaders generally don't like armed conflicts in their front yard.
The whole motivation behind his decision get involved in Ukraine to begin with (in a civil war that has technically been going on since 2014), after spending 8 years on the sideline, was to make it clear how much railroading NATO into Ukraine -- especially the regions that are strongly opposed to any NATO presence -- was a red line for Russia and its security situation.
He is creating a buffer zone while he still has the opportunity to. When the Red Army rolled tanks into Budapest 1956 and Prague 1968 (Central Europe, that much closer to home) nobody in the West even considered adopting the kind of rhetoric we are fed every day now. It's ridiculous.

I'm a canadian and I don't believe the us should be in charge of weapon shipments to ukraine all the weapons,ammo,equipment and food has to go through eu countries so I believe the eu would know how best to deal with shipments to another European country

The reason he does not say that is, what does "win" mean? You may think you have the answer... it is clear to you, but UKR has a different goal than the UK, who has a different goal than the US, who has a different goal than RUS.

100B$ over 5 years is really not a lot, especially compared to what the other side is willing to spend.
Around $75bn were already committed to Ukraine over past 2 years, another $100bn over 5 years it’s nothing, 20bn per year.

RUS does not have $100bil. It was $640bil at the start, day1 half of it got seized b/c it was in NYC, $320bil and conservative accounts are RUS spends $500mil every day on the war. It is day 774 /2 = $387bil, -$67bil... but, they still have oil revenue (~$7.5bil/mo -- $157.5bil since sanctions, so
RUS now has roughly $90.5bil and it is falling at a rate of +/-$250mil/day.
NATO is working on $20bil/yr for 5yrs, but also the US independently, and the SUI, and JAP and PRK, and AUS/NZL, and COL, JOR, AZE.

@@WalkOverHotCoal None of the wars the US lost were existential. There was hardly a war going on in Afghanistan. US soldiers were safer in Afghanistan when Biden gave up than they were back home in the USA. Likewise, Israel could win their war in 20 minutes or less if they had to. For Ukraine the fight is existential and for Russia it is optional. Russia will lose worse than they lost in Afghanistan.

Around 5.4 million died in the Congo wars (This is a rough estimate that is disputed, nobody knows really how many were killed), and 2-3 million in the Korean war. But in terms of scale and scope this is certainly a contender.
