Maybe at a thrift store get a rifle cover you could hang or even carry while you're out with Sadie.
Put a large stick in it to keep it stiff.
I know upping the game could cause trouble too, but if you're already playing the part of a hunter...
They fold down pretty small so they wouldn't take up much space...
      Just a thought.

Hey Carolyn, I'm sorry it took me a few days to catch up on my UA-cam videos, and I just wanted to ask you to please be careful about leaving anything of value unsupervised, including your RV, especially in the middle of nowhere in the south, because there are a lot of opioid & methamphetamine addicts who'll steal anything that isn't nailed down. I'm a Tennessean who's a recovering addict that's been clean & sober for 6 years, after being addicted to opiates & other drugs for more than 30 years, and unfortunately I know all too well the desperation of securing that next fix, and the lengths some addicts will go through to aquire the means necessary to do so. Anyway, please stay safe and give Sadie girl a big kiss for me. Have a blessed & wonderful week. 🤗🐕‍🦺💞🙏

I took a day to think about it. If you were at a state park and were across a site entry, I wouldn't necessarily think you were in it. Also, you have out of state plates. The locals may think that you don't know that you are blocking a camp spot. Regardless, how rude to honk at an RV in the night. Very rude of them.

If you're blocking access to someone who CAN make it in there (higher clearance, 4 wheel drive, whatever) then yeah, you need to make way for them. Even if it looks like a crappy road, someone might be approaching from the other direction and wants to get through, etc. You can't really be blocking a road even if it looks sparsely traveled. Someone could be down there hunting or whatever.

You said it, She was parked on a driveway? No she choose to park on a road that was obviously used to reach the top and then" claimed" the spot for her big RV thus blocking access to anyone who CAN reach the top for camping or viewing. If she can't drive to a location because of her rigs size she has no right to block the only ACCESS ROAD to the view point at the top. Stay safe and don't block roads. 🌎❣😎

Erin, the main access road goes to a lake with multiple boondocking sites all around it. Carolyn pulled off of that road onto a 1/4 mile dead end spur. which she was using to walk her dog. She said that she would move if someone wanted to camp there.
This is not a campground it is a boondocking area where people usually want their own space and privacy. It is first come first serve.

Plus you will give your nervous system a break by not staying there overnight. The world is different now, everywhere, even in little ol' friendly towns. We all need to start thinking differently about our daily safety. It's a shame it's this way but unfortunately it is reality. I could of never stayed there overnight, I don't know how you did it. Debra Lozano, I totally agree. My late husband and I lived in our homemade bus for many years, traveling up/down the west coast. We could stay just about anywhere and feel very safe. Folks who approached us were very friendly and courteous. But today? It's definitely an entirely different world out there. I now have a small class B and, while I still love traveling, I'd be hesitant to stay in isolated places without other RVers in the general area (I enjoy my privacy so no campgrounds for me, unless absolutely necessary). Carolyn is very brave and thinks fast about situations and possible solutions - not everyone has such courage.

I live in south central Kansas. This is common practice in rural areas. People do it for 2 reasons. 1st is they don't want people stealing or messing with things on their farm property. 2nd they do it too see if someone needs help. I live in a small (7,000) town and it happens a lot. My dad lives 20 miles out and he would do every time, for those 2 reasons. My guess is they lived very close to where you were. Great thinking on what you did and said, having a dog is a huge benefit.

Nah, That's a road to the campsite. There are possibly other things the land between you and top of the hill could be used for, or camped on. Plus it just kind of seems like you're saying, if I can't use it nobody can. Now as for the trucks. Country boys like to do a few things. Hunt and Drink. Hunters like to "run" dogs. Depending on what they're hunting for depends on the time of day they run them. Coon hunting happens at night, all night. They use GPS collars to track the dogs so when they run or tree something they can locate them. Also if they run several dogs occasionally one will get on the trail of something else or a battery will go dead and they have to find their dogs. The guys late at night were just looking for a dog. They pulled the others out hoping it would call the lost one in. Hence yelling for it. With that said country boys like to hit those roads to drink and party, Maybe you were blocking their planned spot. Sometimes being technically right isn't always worth it. Also, listen to some country songs. Chillin on a dirt road.... smoke rollin out the window... an ice cold beer sittiin in the console... isn't just catchy lyrics. LOL Glad you're ok but I don't think you were in any real danger.

  • @canyondiva493

I think you might have overlooked a possibility with your “ concerned locals”. Here in Northern California we suddenly have a lot of transients and druggers who somehow acquire RV’s, park them in areas they shouldn’t for weeks or months on end, while creating huge volumes of trash and supplementing their habits by stealing anything not nailed down. Perhaps they thought you might be an undesirable element rather than a happy camper and just didn’t want you to get a foothold in their community.

    • @1nhonho
      @1nhonho 2 роки тому +9

The thing is they don't see anything that confirms that theory. So why bother her? I think it's just intimidation because they think the land belongs to them. And the sense of entitlement to police others is a very big problem in this country. They had to force her to reply. Which means this is someone quietly minding their own business. THEY are the undesirable element if you ask me.

You did well Carolyn. In rural areas people notice every out of state plate and every unfamiliar vehicle. He probably was really checking in on your well-being, and hearing only a dog might have been concerned for a dog seemingly alone. In rural areas it’s normal to be proactive in greeting another person. It’s a fine balance to show yourself or not but always implying that others are with you and more are arriving imminently, helps. The tarp over the generator might have been interpreted as engine trouble. It’s hard to anticipate how others will interpret our set up. Great spot! You need to not block access because who knows who is already up that road, and if someone else arrives with 4x4 and can get up there, you need to not prevent them from using the spot, that you are not using as it was intended.

I don't think you're using the campsite, you're using the road. Since you're unable to use that spot, why keep someone else from using it? I wanted to add, I've lived in a couple of small "homey" towns that seemed so friendly. The downside is everybody knows everybody's business, and that gets old. Just something to think about if you ever decide to settle someplace. 😄😄✌️❤

We moved to a "homey" friendly area. Turned out- you'd better be White. We are and were horribly shocked to hear these same "sweet" small town citizens using the "n" word, making comments about other customers in the store that were not White, or poor. We found it almost impossible to find actual friends as everyone, literally turned out to be racists as the norm and we were the "weird ones" BECAUSE we didn't find their jokes funny or comments and said so however gently. Also being in the EMS (which is how we got accepted into the community it turns out) the police were seriously small town thugs. And enjoyed it. They could be helpful... but if they don't..... doesn't matter if you're a good guy or not. They harassed for no reason people they thought were hippies, and bragged about chasing non Whites out of the county come nightfall. There is one case of probable sodomizing of a prisoner as well. Not like all of that now.. but wow taught us to NEVER trust a "homey small town" unless you really get to know it.

@@jamesmarsh9888 I've lived in a traditionally black area for nearly 25 years, and it is not quite as we white people think it is, when we only meet black people on "our turf". In this neighborhood, if you don't act like a jerk, most people give you at least a degree of respect for that. There are exceptions: an arrogant young woman started ordering me around, and actually ordered me off the property where I have lived for 24.5 years. It started with a misunderstanding, that she deliberately escalated, barking out orders. When she ordered me to leave (!), I had been walking to the store. I couldn't let her intimidate me, and when I walked back in her direction, she went ballistic about me touching her, which I had no intention of doing. I just had to face her down, from a reasonable distance, because if I walked off property while she was "ordering" me off, it would seem like I was knuckling under to her nonsense. Every black person I told about this incident said she had no right to do that, and someone must have told her not to do it anymore, because she avoids me now. Her best friend is friendly with me. I think that perhaps she just pegged me as a type of white person she hated, and as the typical villain she wanted to validate her feelings against.
The point of me telling you this, is that in nearly twenty-five years of living here, very few black people have showed even a mild form of that attitude. Few students from the nearby universities show it. It's actually much rarer that you would ever know from the media (which glamorizes it, leading to an expectation of black people being that way), or from some interactions in the white neighborhoods, where black people tend to feel a little tense, expecting something bad to happen. As for someone trying to terrorize me, there has been very little of that. When I told my friend I used to talk to at Wendy's (when the dining room was open) about another incident, she said, do not listen to someone who tries that on you! She said it was bogus, and spoke as if she had no respect for it, and a lot of black people, my neighbors, seem to think like her, too. Black people do experience racism, and that's real. They will fight back. There are some black kids who bully white kids at schools; that is real, too. But if you knew black people when they are relaxed, on their own turf, you would be surprised at how kindly and respectful they can be. Race is not a good reason for anything. It does not explain any human actions, any strengths, any virtues, any weaknesses, any sins. All of those things are spread across the human race. Culture can encourage good or bad behaviors, but the "racial" genetics of people are not as determining as many other things, including the consciences of individuals.. I once saw a documentary about the Human Genome Project, and they examined the DNA of a group of people to compare with the millions of other samples to see whom they were most closely related to. A young, sensitive, introverted girl from an African country, was most closely related to a boy in China, not any of the thousands of African participants. That highlights the fact that genetic race is not all that it is cracked up to be: not what the "typical," white racists think it is, and not what the typical Darwinist thinks it is, either.

Have you considered that the screws (usually four, at the corners) anchoring the inside portion of your A/C unit to the ceiling may have shaken loose and that is where your leak is? Losing a snug fit leaves a gap for rain to run everywhere up in your ceiling - it seems to show up everywhere except right at the A/C. If the screws are loose don’t just screw them back in - since your rig is not new you most likely also need a new gasket up top where the roof portion of the A/C is seated on the roof. Over time the gasket gets really compressed and no longer seals well, which is also a potential source for huge leaks. Make sure when the screws are re-snugged up through the ceiling that the screws do not go through the roof gasket or you’ll have even more leaks!

My thought would be that if you can’t make it to the actual site, camp somewhere else. Because if I am able to make it out there and you aren’t able to leave enough room for me to get past you, I’d be aggravated that you blocked a great site that’s accessible to someone else. The other thing I thought of is your safety. Someone who wants that spot may be the type of person that goes from zero to a hundred in one second. That kind of confrontation can be dangerous for you. It's yours. The entrance TO the campsite is part OF the camp site.
Now... if one entrance were serving numerous campsites.. that's one thing. But if it is only serving that one site... it's yours.

I wouldn't want get tangled up in what the locals think is not ok, so NO you are not using the campsite unless you are in the designated area. Plus, on a rough lane with thunder near, what happens it its a "gully washer"? Bad spot to be.

Ask any roofer, leaks can 'move'. Water follows the path of least resistance. Do you have any dehumidifiers or fans or anything to help combat the mold? Leaks are my biggest fear.

Take a chair and some stuff, put it at the campsite, and it's yours. You can park your rig however you'd like. I'd definitely do some star gazing at the top with the view where you currently are parked. Build a campfire, put some seating up, and sit up there watch the sunset, then the stars, until time to go to bed. Gorgeous views! Take care Carolyn! : )

If the campsite is ONE campsite, then it’s yours…in my opinion. But if there’s room for more than 1 vehicle, although crowded, then technically you’re blocking the campsite. But I could be wrong.
I truly don’t know how you feel safe enough camping in areas so remote. Whoa, that’s sleeping weather. Our language learning weather. Definitely hot soup or coffee weather. Thanks again for your videos!

It’s possible they were just being friendly and checking on you. Honking the horn and reving the engine could be construed as respecting your space and “knocking” from afar.
I know if I were out there by myself I would have been scared as well. But I find it sad the world has gotten to where we are this afraid of one another. I live in a very small town, and community where the approach would definitely have been non threatening and friendly.

A lot of local communities don't like it when rv'ers visit their local BLM lands. They often don't know you and others are camping there legally. Locals use such places.... teens gathering, hunters checking the area, etc. Rv'ers are sometimes not careful with "the pack it in, pack it out" rule, leaving a mess behind. Locals consider most visitors boondocking to be homeless and vagabonds, instead of understanding it is a lifestyle choice, and it's public use BLM land. I say this about some people because I've heard it, but thank goodness not everybody feels that way. It's what public BLM land is all about, IMHO!

Next trip to town. Buy Damp Rid. It will soak up the water from the leak. We used it when the water line sprung a leak in the closet. Put it in the cabinet and you can keep the door shut. Change when all the crystals are gone.

One of the great things about small towns is people look out for each other. It can also come across as being nosy. Seems like you're safe but one never knows and as a solo female I'd be worried same as you. With all that said, small town locals don't have much patience for random strangers that MAY be using drugs. They don't know you, you don't them. It's difficult for both parties and dark of night doesn't help. I admire how you handle situations and have learned so much. Thanks for all you do!

I agree. Based on how they acted I would say they were actually concerned and checking to make sure everything was ok. They were up there during the day and since they didn’t see you probably assumed you were out hunting. Also probably why they came back. To check and make sure everything was ok. Also my dad was a coon hunter for years and yes they hunt at night.

I live in beautiful Arkansas, and I'm sorry you had a bad experience. My guess is just some good old boy checking on things. There are meth labs and others bad guys that use remote areas, so he may have genuinely been checking to see what was going on. I hope you won't judge our state by that.
