www.sladescapbook.com Excellent documentary about SLADE from 1999. Shown in 5 parts for You Tube. Part Five - Reeves & Mortimer, My Oh My, Run Runaway, America in 1983
Slade had many fans in America ,, I was one them and love Slade to this day. Thank you Noddy, Jim, Dave and Don for all the music and fun. Your shows were the best. Angie
I first saw Slade on a visit to England around 1973, saw Skweeze Me Pleeze Me on TOTP, and had never seen anything like them, Blew me away. Going back to rural Canada, I had to scrounge to find the LPs, and they got no airplay on the radio. Huge shame. One of my biggest disappointments is never having seen them live. It ticks me off that people only know the crappy Quiet Riot version of Cum on Feel the Noize. I still listen to Slade, Slade Alive is one of the best live albums ever.
Slade was the first gig I ever went to - Southampton Gaumont 1981. I was 13. It was the loudest thing I've ever heard, before or since. My ears are still ringing to this day nearly 40 years on.
Thanks for all 5 parts. SLADE... I'm American, and I've loved them since the 70's. Real rock fans here knew about Slade...just not the radio stations or the teeny-boppers that buy records. Just like kids today are into Taylor Swift & Justin Beiber and have no clue what real music is. Rock fans know rock, and don't tolerate crapola!
This Band is the backdrop to my early years...…..and they still are Brilliant...…….They must be the most underrated Band ever......….seeing these Guys live was a full on experience o power pop songs
This is one American who's loved Slade for 20+ years. Thank you for uploading this informative and entertaining documentary. And thanks to Slade for their music and the way it makes me feel.
I was in England at the height of Slade and I've never stopped listening to them, the more I think how brilliant most of their songs are and how good they make you feel. The riffs, the lyrics, the NOISE, they could do them slow, fast, nonsense, the ryming slang (No wonder USA audiences could never understand them) They had it all, the media never raised them to the heights they should have been and when you proclaim to people "Slade are better than the Rolling Stones and the Beatles for the sheer number of great songs over almost 3 decades with the original members some people say "Who are they?" But we know they are tops, they should have had 15 or more no 1 hits. Music today is so yesterday in the sense that no many songs are going to stand the test of time and be remembered because most of its crap. I'm glad I was around in the greatest era of music, and my one regret is I never got to see them live.
Watched all five parts laughing and crying in turns....thank you, noizefeeler, for bringing this documentary to youtube! I was a girl raised in New York City, who loved music and musicians loved me! LOL Lucky me was at the record company party to introduce Slade to the NY press on their first time in the US...Lucky me wound up taking the lads around town shopping for clothes, boots, glitter...Lucky me moved to London in '73 and accompanied them to some TOTP tapings...Good times not forgotten!
We stopped off on the way to Wigan Casino in the 1970s at a pub in Cannock and bumped into Slade in their hayday. They were so down to earth and not up themselves at all.
Well done. In my tiny country, a large island. My sister, me, and my cousins, loved SLADE. Loved listening to them on our record player, very early 1970's.
Slade weren't pretentious enough for the cool market...they just pumped out great music and didn't about winning over critics. Which is what makes them cooler than the artists who are considered cool.
As a teenager when slade were famous, i have seen lots of great bands come and go, and they are still special to me, still feel sixteen like those great times when i hear them, there is and only ever be one noddy holder, and like don powell said, together they were magic
Brilliant band with tremendous depth of character and range. Natural born showmen who loved performing and giving audiences value for money. Not all bands care two shits about the paying public you know dudes!
Many moons ago sitting on the beach on Quadra Island in British Columbia Canada the three of us with our cheap guitars jamming when one of the local older kids said to us, "you guys need to checkout SLADE " we had no idea who or what he was talking about, We had no TV signal on the island only AM radio, however we got the LP SLADE ALIVE That album we wore out, this doc tells you why, THANK YOU for posting this exceptional history, Cheers :)
This takes me back to Plymouth 1972 I met my daughters mum she was 16 I was 18 and we loved Slade! I moved down to Plymouth from Liverpool and eventually moved back to Liverpool great times!!!
Most definitely appreciate you sharing this documentary. You can't help but smile every time you hear their music. Slade should have been bigger than the Beatles!
Being in Australia we do not get these shows, only here on youtube. We love it. I was a kid when I first heard Slade, gud bye t jane, me eldest brother played it and I was hooked. That was in the 70's and now my Kids are the same. Noddy's voice is the best in rock. Although my favorite songs are their ballads, Everyday and My o My. I also think Don as a drummer is awfully underrated he should be up there with Bozo and Moon. Thanks for posting this.
I just dug out my "Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply" tape last weekend. I got it for my 12th birthday in June 1984. I have a CD of it on order now. Two of the 3000..........
My first ever concert in 1974 in Rotterdam Netherlands (me think Slades 1'st gig in Holland)... I turned deaf since haha. Man did we feel that noize!. Unforgettable, did attend numerous gigs of other bands after that but never ever so loud again.
Great... somewhere, far far away, back in time, the first record i've bought was one of Slade's ! My poor mama went crazy, when she heard it and felt the noise... Still a big influence on many bands... Yes i'm an "old" fan.
God I love Slade. I was 14 in 1983 and spent all my money and then some to buy Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply . I was pissed at Quiet Riot. God I loved that album. Run Run Away and My Oh My are some of the best. Slade needs more respect. they did it all and did it first and better.
It’s amazing how a band can change the course of your life - my first concert at 13 (it wasn’t gigs back then) was at the Empire Liverpool, came away with, deaf / no voice and an experience that can’t be measured. I was from this point onwards I always wanted to bring this feeling to others - finally formed a band and took the spirit of Slade around the world. Thank you guys for your honesty, integrity and damn fine stomping energy. Watching this made my day, thanks for sharing and the Beeb for producing it. 🙌💥👊
Was into Slade in early 70's and I remember their version of Noise as being better than riot's. It is near the end of 2022 and they are all still with us, pity Noddy and the lads did not reunite for their 50th.
Can’t really argue with any of the comments. Slide were a great band. All good musicians & noddy’s voice was great. Didn’t like Oasis’s cover but only because I thought they were overrated. Good vids. 👍
Came to NZ as part of that Aussie Tour - played Te Rapa Racecourse south of Auckland. we all went down on the Train ... Status Quo, Lindisfarne etc BIG Slade fan ... great songs , great music and funny as hell ( good times musically back then ) ... most of their songs still hold up well today !!!
Saw them in St. Louis with Areosmith Nazereth as their warm up bands one of my all time favorite concerts. the following weekend they played 2 more nights at concerts south and the crowd destroyed the venue and there were never any more concerts held there. SLADE IS #1 LOUD LOUDER LOUDEST AND FANTASTIC!!!!!!
I was at the Concert South shows with two of my friends. One of my friends somehow talked one of Slade’s crew into letting us in the back door on the final night. We got to hear Mahogany Rush, the opening act, do their sound check from the front row. When the doors were opened the crowd rushed in. There was no reserved seating. We were packed in like sardines as they oversold the tickets. The air conditioning couldn’t handle the huge crowd. It was so hot in there and then Slade whipped the crowd in to a frenzy. The place was totally trashed. One of the most memorable concerts I have ever been to.
I was at Reading in 1980 and Slade were just brilliant, the video on here with them talking about Reading wasn't from that gig though, saw them at Donington in 81 as well, held their own against some big acts.
Thanks for this, have seen it before but watching it again and again. Hope Dave is ok after the stroke, what a shock that was. I know he's 64 but sheesh, maybe being on stage so much isn't doing his health too good and he needs to slow down.
Reading live Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance, sounded mind blowing!!! My mate told me they went from about to be bottled off, to best band ever, probably was the best band Reading ever had!!
I believe I could have done without seeing Oasis butcher a Slade song. LOL. Funny how Oasis takes themselves so seriously, and all of their songs sound the same. Slade were brilliant and didn't take themselves seriously at all. Slade was one of the best things from the 70's. I had all of their records back then, repackages and all. They were a good time, that's for sure. I've got most of their albums on CD now and they still sound great!
Mattie Mclean to be honest Slade we’re writing great Indie stuff before the Manchester scene happened and never realised it!! They were so ahead of there time along with TREX. The fact that Oasis recognized it is testament to their unique talent.
It really is a shame and an injustice that Slade never really made it in Canada and the U.S. I remember they were scheduled to open for Ozzy on his BARK AT THE MOON tour in Toronto and of course they had to cancel out due to Jim's Heppatitus scare...Ratt ended up filling the bill..needless to say Rat were Booed off the stage.
Cant' believe there are only 25 comments here! This was brilliant. I was born in 1968, so I only just remember them being on TOTP in the 70's. I did see them live in the 70's in the US (special guests of ZZ Top on one tour and of Blue Oyster Cult on another...you talk about loud! But a great live band...lots of energy and craft. I wish they’d done Live Aid. It would’ve been unreal❤️
I can honestly say i didn't realise how great they were. Noddy has one of the greatest voices, in the history of rock n roll.
Slade had many fans in America ,, I was one them and love Slade to this day. Thank you Noddy, Jim, Dave and Don for all the music and fun. Your shows were the best. Angie

I guess they turned the amps up to 11...
Amazing band in their prime ... and later. Noddy's voice still sounds immense

@Alpha Homo you mad, bro?
I can't find part 3. Am I being dense somehow or did part 3 cross over into the shadow realm?
@@ClusterFugue At the end of segments, you're shown other ones to pick from. That's how I got all five.
This Band is the backdrop to my early years...…..and they still are Brilliant...…….They must be the most underrated Band ever......….seeing these Guys live was a full on experience o power pop songs

slade was truly the uk's greatest band !!! so many covered them!!
Slade weren't pretentious enough for the cool market...they just pumped out great music and didn't about winning over critics. Which is what makes them cooler than the artists who are considered cool.
Each to their own
Хз я их считаю круче роллинг
Might have to get our SLADE albums out and listen to them again.
This band was phenomenal live.
Just stunningly good.
As a teenager when slade were famous, i have seen lots of great bands come and go, and they are still special to me, still feel sixteen like those great times when i hear them, there is and only ever be one noddy holder, and like don powell said, together they were magic

Slade. The soundtrack for my formative years, the absolute best band of my childhood.
Slade are timeless.
I remember Slade in my youth seeing them on Top of the Pops , high noise level but, good . Now I am 66 and still enjoy most of their songs.
BRILLIANT I WAS A SLADE FAN BACK IN THE DAY SLADE ALIVE MY FAV RECORD OF ALL TIME BIG THANKS FOR ALL THE DOCS

My first Rock concert 1973 in Frankfurt Germany. They will always hold a special place in this old Rockers heart ❤️

Noddy has one of the greatest rock and roll voices of all time. Right up there with Bon Scott.
The Midlands. The crucible of metal.
Because it sure the f*** wasn't going to come out of London.
I was at Reading that year and they were OUTSTANDING.
Most definitely appreciate you sharing this documentary. You can't help but smile every time you hear their music. Slade should have been bigger than the Beatles!
I get why Noddy is done with it. It's still sad though. I TOTALLY get why Don and Dave are continuing! Great band, in whatever way we can get it!!!
Being in Australia we do not get these shows, only here on youtube. We love it. I was a kid when I first heard Slade, gud bye t jane, me eldest brother played it and I was hooked. My first ever concert in 1974 in Rotterdam Netherlands (me think Slades 1'st gig in Holland)... I turned deaf since haha. Man did we feel that noize!. Unforgettable, did attend numerous gigs of other bands after that but never ever so loud again.
Wish they would release the video of Reading 1980. It definitely put them back on the map again :)
6:06 crying my eyes out laughing - Fuck, I loved Slade and Vic & Bob
73 74, best party band ever.....
Great... somewhere, far far away, back in time, the first record i've bought was one of Slade's ! My poor mama went crazy, when she heard it and felt the noise... Still a big influence on many bands... Yes i'm an "old" fan.
Come on boys. One last go. Sunday @ Glastonbury. You know it makes sense xxx
Great band! Massive in the Uk. Pretty well all of their music has aged well!

What lovely blokes, so down to earth, and so much better than I realised at the time.
It would be nice for one last hurrah . One gig in Hyde Park and even have the others do guest spots .
Can’t really argue with any of the comments. Slide were a great band. All good musicians & noddy’s voice was great. Didn’t like Oasis’s cover but only because I thought they were overrated. Good vids. 👍

I was one of the fans at Reading festival...they really brought the house down!
I read an article about it and it was blinding apparently .
That was the first time I saw them live. Bloody fantastic, best live band ever.
Great fun. Can't find part 3 but very nostalgic. Love to Oasis cover!

I was at Reading in 1980 and Slade were just brilliant, the video on here with them talking about Reading wasn't from that gig though, saw them at Donington in 81 as well, held their own against some big acts.
Slade were just a little before my time...just a little!! but this documentatry was a good look inside of who they really were...
What a great group!
Love them. Love them. They are so great! :D
Great! First album I bought myself was Sladest.
Thanks for this, have seen it before but watching it again and again. Hope Dave is ok after the stroke, what a shock that was. I know he's 64 but sheesh, maybe being on stage so much isn't doing his health too good and he needs to slow down.
Slade alive was the first album i ever bought. Mesmerising
Reading live Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance, sounded mind blowing!!! My mate told me they went from about to be bottled off, to best band ever, probably was the best band Reading ever had!!
Jim Lea -" Yes Dave was going to start his wedding car business, NOT ONE of his brightest ideas". Funny.
Н О Д Д И.......Х О Л Д Е Р......наш.....как говорится〰️👍🤠РУЛЕВОЙ❗❗❗ОБОЖАЮ ЕГО И СЛЭЙД.....это просто〰️🤘ЧУДО☝️🤠👌❗❗❗❗
Noddy what a voice.
noddy has got one of the best voices out there
Best voice ever
I believe I could have done without seeing Oasis butcher a Slade song. LOL. Funny how Oasis takes themselves so seriously, and all of their songs sound the same. It was like Slade on valium.
Well said, oasis version was rubbish
You fucking idiot
Mattie Mclean to be honest Slade we’re writing great Indie stuff before the Manchester scene happened and never realised it!! They were so ahead of there time along with TREX. The fact that Oasis recognized it is testament to their unique talent.
I couldn't agree more. Oasis are garbage
All top lads..
Eine sehr gute Dokumentation
Cant' believe there are only 25 comments here! This was brilliant.
I was born in 1968, so I only just remember them being on TOTP in the 70's. Merry xmas everybody is one of my all time favourite songs. Can't believe Noddy wrote it in such a short time, lol.
That Dave Hill bloke always gave me the shits, I really couldn't stand him, but this docu has made me completely change my mind about him.
Jim lea !! 👍👍👌
To this day Noddy and Dave cant go shopping without someone seeing if they brought cup a soup😁
Get down n get with it 👊
the last 10 seconds were cool
Very good retrospective on the band...lived in the UK when all the glam thing was going on and saw their rise...funny thing is, I left England just as their star began to wane in 1974. I did see them live in the 70's in the US (special guests of ZZ Top on one tour and of Blue Oyster Cult on another...you talk about loud! But a great live band...lots of energy and craft. Bout time they did a tour, cmon boyz
funny, how slade never get a mention, when television, and radio, talk about great bands, when in fact slade were without doubt one of the best live bands, of the 70,s early 80,s,, and i think , the most number 1,s of the 70,s of any rock band, should have been in the hall of fame, years ago, so overlooked, its a crime,
Well it happens to be thee best live album of all time,,,how about that then?
lol, the end scene is a tribute to flashdance, am I right?
Apparently Nod wants the original Slade to get back together and do an oldies spot at Reading.
weird to think that when it shows the footage of 1977, them having a hard time when punk broke etc: thats the same amount of time from then, as the documentry 's original air date is from now. 20 years.
idk why this was in my reccomendations - everyone elses comments are from 8 yrs ago!
balmsalve same here! Merry Christmas is my favorite of all Christmas songs though. Still to this day!
best band ever dare i say even better than kiss onya boys
Oasis can't be compared with the GREAT SLADE one of the best bands ever ✌️👍👍
0 - 7, Noddy Holder looks a right hardcase!
Funny... both Slade and Oasis were huge in the UK but no one cared at all about either band in the States.
Sort of...Oasis were pretty big in the US in the 90s, i think they had 3 platinum albums stateside, but they were certainly like Slade in that they never reached the same heights over there as back home.
Bloody noddy the only one I haven't met!
Till Deaf do Us Part is Slade's greatest album
....and they completely ignored it in this documentary...
"C'est la vie "Slade.
Was lighting guy with Dr Feelgood and shared the opening act spot for Blue Oyster Cult in New Jersey NY.
Thought they were a bunch of pop glam wankers...God was I wrong and proud to say so,,mind you Dr Feelgood were something special also.
Special
